Elon Musk and Jordan Peterson Praise Hungarian Demographic Measures – Hungary Today

Some of the most influential figures of conservative public discourse have taken note of the success of Hungarian family support policies that have so far managed to slow population decline. Reacting to U.S. media pundit Tucker Carlsons interview with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbn, entrepreneur Elon Musk and Canadian publicist Jordan B. Peterson seem to have found the policies of the current Hungarian government inspiring.

As soon as Carlsons interview was aired, it hit the headlines of global media outlets on all sides of the political spectrum.

The owner of social media giant X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk was clearly one of those who enjoyed listening to the program and seems to have taken notice of what Prime Minister Orbn had to say about family policies. In his tweet he reacted by saying,

Musks reaction was retweeted by renowned Canadian psychiatrist and published author of several bestsellers Jordan B. Peterson, who said that The Hungarians have an extremely impressive family policy: Mothers income tax exempt: 25% one child, 50% two children, 75% three, 100% four. Lifetime exempt. They have raised female participation in the workforce, decreased divorce, decreased abortion rate. Their President Katalin Novak is a firebrand.

Canada’s Jordan Peterson Is Ordered To Undergo Reeducation in a Wake-Up Call for Friends of Freedom – The New York Sun

The Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson has become the perfect model for the threat of totalitarian mind and speech control. The College of Psychologists of Ontario has ordered Mr. Peterson to undertake social media training to retain his clinical license and the right to call himself a psychologist.

The college took issue with several social media posts Mr. Peterson made, which the college deemed inappropriate. One would think his Ph.D in psychology and decades of teaching at Harvard and several Canadian institutions would trump a few tweets.

The scenario is worthy of George Orwells 1984, Friedrich Hayeks The Road to Serfdom, or the collective writing of Alexander Solzhenitsyn. When Mr. Peterson challenged the brainwashing order, though, it was upheld by three Ontario Court judges.

Mr. Peterson has a huge worldwide following of people (mostly younger people looking for meaning and rules to live by). His books have been best sellers. His speeches have been sold out. His podcast has a huge audience. His television documentaries are shared widely.

However, Mr. Peterson has two flaws according to the totalitarian left. First, he is a genuine conservative in the classical 19th century sense. He tests and challenges all the passions and emotions of the new lefts commitment to social engineering.

Second, he is outspoken and effective. His candor guarantees that he will run afoul of the thought police. The Peterson case is a warning for Americans in a variety of sobering ways.

It demonstrates that a mainstay Western democracy can drift steadily into left-wing radicalism. (The Canadian commitment to euthanasia and assisted suicide is a startling rejection of virtually every religions commitment to life.)

Canadians have now granted power to government to control virtually every aspect of their lives, including what they say in public. If you dont use the right pronouns, proclaim the correct position on racial or gender issues, embrace the pseudo-science on the climate, then you are a bad, dangerous person. In the new Canadian thought dictatorship, freedom of expression cant be tolerated.

This pattern is also emerging in Europe. People are being jailed for reading from wrong parts of the Bible (which includes strongly anti-homosexual passages). This is the pattern emerging on American college campuses. People can be ostracized and fired for saying or writing the wrong things.

This disease is spreading to the American military. It has already led to significant internal conflicts and departures. Conservative servicemembers are unwilling to keep their mouths shut and say things they believe are patently false.

I am surprised that the Peterson case has not led to a much greater outcry. I was introduced to his work by a brilliant young researcher at Gingrich 360. She felt that he had a profound impact on her and her friends.

Then Mr. Peterson asked me to join him on his podcast. It was an amazing two and a half hour long chat that ranged widely. At the end of our talk, it was clear to me Mr. Peterson was smart, thoughtful, and widely read.

When the podcast was released, I heard from an amazing range of people who listened to it. Liberal Democrats, conservatives, and non-political folks were interested in the ideas we shared. It was clear that Mr. Peterson had developed a broad following of people who liked to think and liked to stretch their minds.

The danger of punishing people for their ideas is always with us. About 24 centuries ago (399 B.C.) the great philosopher Socrates faced a one-day trial for lacking piety and getting young people to think outside the existing dogma.

The following day, Socrates was forced to renounce his teachings or drink poison. He chose the latter. The boldest philosopher of his time, teacher of Plato, and founder of an entire school of thought was killed by the state because he made it uncomfortable.

The coercive brainwashing of Mr. Peterson is a warning. The elites of our time are becoming as oppressive and dangerous as any in the Greek golden age. The persecution of Mr. Peterson should be a wake-up call for everyone who cherishes freedom.

If It’s Just a Symbol, to Hell with It – Catholic Exchange

The great Catholic novelist, Flannery OConnor, was admirably blunt. She once attended a party where non-Catholics discussed the Eucharist. Her host said that the Eucharist was a very good symbol but that was all it was. OConnor famously replied, Well, if its just a symbol, to hell with it.

OConnors objection was not that symbolism is useless or has no place in spiritual matters. Indeed, her stories are filled with it, vividly showing the working of God even among simple and grotesque people. However, she knew that the sacraments are different. The symbolism of the sacraments is made meaningful by the fact that they literally are the things they represent. If this fact were false, the sacraments would be worthless.

Symbolism has been discussed in the media recently because of the work of Dr. Jordan Peterson. He has become well known among both religious and secular people for his courage in the face of oppression, his strong defense of the traditional gender roles, his rich understanding of the importance of archetypes and stories, and his ability to speak intelligently on any subject. However, his discussion of religious matters is severely lacking because, like Flannery OConnors host, he reduces factual truth to mere symbolism.

Peterson has spoken and written extensively on the bible, most notably in his series on Exodus, which is currently being released on YouTube. His work is unique in that he regards scripture with the highest reverence; however, he has refrained from stating that the fundamental truths of the faith are literally, factually true. When he has been asked about these beliefs, he rejects the straight-forward framework that these truths are about literal facts.

This rejection removes any moral nourishment that can be gained from the analysis of the meaning. Of course, there are elements of scripture that should be interpreted symbolically and not in the literal sense. In addition, there are spiritual senses, specifically the allegorical, moral, and anagogical senses. But Jesus Christ, who was a literal, physical person, established a tangible Church which passed down and clarified his teachings. When we read these teachings which are written in the creed, the catechism, and encyclicals, there is no longer a question of what should be taken literally.

There is nothing wrong with a work of fiction being mere symbolism. Great works of literature, such as The Lord of the Rings or The Brothers Karamazov contain more truth than any actual event that has ever happened to most people. Even though the story, the characters, and sometimes the world dont exist in a factual sense, they are more real because they have compressed the goodness, truth, and beauty from many peoples experiences into a single piece. However, the symbolism in Christianity is different from symbolism in fiction.

This difference can be seen in the emphasis that scripture, (the New Testament especially) places on specific historical figures and events. The gospels, written by four different individuals, agree with each other quite closely. To achieve that level of similarity, the writers would have to either be telling the factual truth or plagiarizing off a common source. That means that either they are accurate descriptions of literal events or the meaning they contain is the work of frauds. We can only learn from the gospels if they contain the gospel truth.

What about the Old Testament? It might naively seem that it is meant merely symbolically. It is true that many books were not necessarily intended to be journalistic accounts like the gospels. Christian writers dating back to the early Fathers of the Church have interpreted parts of the early books as symbolic and not literal. However, even these books do not have value if Jesus Christ did not rise from the dead.

The whole of the Old Testament is filled with allusions that make no sense without the New Testament. Almost every book has seemingly meaningless references to things like mystical bread, an awe at the ark of the covenant, and water that drowns and gives rebirth. These things only become clear in light of the person of Jesus, the new ark of the covenant, whose death and rebirth allow us to be reborn in the sacrament of baptism and receive him in the Eucharist. Without the factual truth of the New Testament, the Old Testament is full of random meaningless interjections. This also is not a source that we can draw deep meaning from.

The whole of the bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is focused on a single event the real, biological birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Just like the people of Jesus time who saw, heard and touched him with their physical scientific senses, we must choose between going all in on the literal truth of Christs resurrection, like the apostles who were almost all martyred for this fact, or going away, like the rich young man who couldnt quite commit to following Jesus.

We can and should see the deep symbolism present in Christian scripture and tradition. Jordan Peterson does see this and his analysis on this subject is quite sharp. But to be of any use to anyone, this understanding requires an acceptance of the literal truth of Christianity. If the fundamental truth of the faith is merely symbolism, to hell with it.

The truth about Artificial Intelligence to be revealed in CHRISTMAS … – The Royal Institution

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has increasingly grabbed the headlines in recent years generating excitement and concern in equal measure and not since the World-Wide Web emerged 30-years ago has a new technology promised to change our world so fundamentally and so swiftly.

But what should we believe? In three CHRISTMAS LECTURES to be shown on BBC Four and iPlayer in late December, Mike Wooldridge, Professor of AI at Oxford University and Director for AI at The Alan Turing Institute in London, will tackle the big questions facing AI research and unravel the myths about how this ground-breaking technology really works.

He will show how computer programmes inspired by the human brain can be taught and even teach themselves and tell the surprising story of how tools like the latest chatbots work. He will illustrate the mind-boggling scale of modern AI systems, while showing us the role that AI already plays in our lives, without us even being aware of it. And he may even surprise the audience with some deep fake guests who are not quite what they seem.

With todays AI tools such as ChatGPT and AlphaGo being just a hint of what is to come, Mike will also talk us through the ethical and societal questions that AI raises, from machines adopting human prejudices, through to machines that operate as our boss at work, up to questions about whether AI might even be a risk to humanity. And finally, hell address the really big question of AI: can it ever truly be like us, or are humans unique?

The future of AI is going to be quite a journey, and the CHRISTMAS LECTURES from the Royal Institution will give us a guided tour.

Mike said: I am profoundly honoured to have been asked to give the 2023 CHRISTMAS LECTURES. Artificial Intelligence has a huge potential to make all our lives better, but it does not come without risk and, like all areas of science, advances in the field could create losers as well as winners. So AI is a topic that its vital we explore, examine and question together.

The CHRISTMAS LECTURES are an outstanding opportunity to do this with a large audience, particularly young people who are going to have AI in their lives for far longer than anyone else. I want us to enjoy turning the spotlight on AI, through my own research and experience, expert special guests and the accessible demonstrations that are a CHRISTMAS LECTURES trademark.

Welcoming Mike as the 2023 Christmas Lecturer, Director of the Royal Institution, Katherine Mathieson, said:

At the Ri we believe that science transforms lives and underpins the modern world, and nowhere is that clearer at the moment than in the rapid development of AI technology. So Im delighted that our CHRISTMAS LECTURES this year are bringing a leader in the field of AI research together with millions of people, to explore the science together.

Im looking forward to Mike sharing the secrets of AI, with anyone who is curious about the future, in thrilling and invigorating ways. Well also be opening up the science of AI for discussion and debate; and we may find there are as many questions as there are answers.

Tom Coveney, BBC Commissioning Head of Science, said:

It feels like barely a day goes by without another shocking newspaper headline or scintillating drama storyline about AI; so much so that separating the latest science fact from science fiction can be bewildering for those of us without a PhD in computer science.

Im thrilled that Mikes bringing his unrivalled expertise to this years Lectures, to help us all understand what could be the biggest technological transformation of our lives.

Established by Michael Faraday in 1825, the CHRISTMAS LECTURES from the Royal Institution were broadcast on the BBC in 1936, making them the first science show on UK national television, and have been broadcast every year since 1966. With 3 million views a year on BBC Four and iPlayer, and 60,000 students participating in related Ri activities, they continue to be the worlds leading science lectures for young people.

The 2023CHRISTMAS LECTURES are co-produced by the Ri and Windfall Films for BBC Fourand iPlayer. They were commissionedby Kate Phillips, Director of Unscripted and Jack Bootle, Head of Commissioning, Specialist Factual. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC isTom Coveney.TheSeries Producer isZara Powell andtheExecutive Producer is David Dugan.

What personal qualities do we need in the future? EJINSIGHT … – EJ Insight

With a lack of ground-breaking technological innovation over the past few decades in the highly industrialised countries, the labour productivity growth there has diminished. This is the conclusion of a German study on 25 countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Britian. Without a great leap forward in productivity like mechanisation, economic growth and the income of workers have stagnated.

No wonder parents around the world are pessimistic about the next generations financial well-being. A 2022 survey by the Pew Research Center found that a median of 70% of adults across 19 countries including Japan, South Korea, Australia, the U.K. the U.S., said that children will be worse off financially than their parents. Parents tend to see the worst aspect of things, but such widespread negative sentiment is quite rare in this annual survey.

With AlphaGo defeating the world Go human champion in 2016 and the generative artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT released at the end of 2022, people start thinking again whether advanced technologies will subvert the world as prophesied. Will humanity one day succumb to AI?

I, however, think that in the next five, ten or 50 years, even if AI or other innovative technologies become common, a greater demand for certain personal qualities required in the interaction and cooperation between humans and advanced technologies will remain unchanged.

The World Economic Forums The Future of Jobs Report 2023 released at the end of April predicts that as many as 69 million new jobs may emerge by 2027 to meet a new division of labour between human and AI machines. The latter will focus on tasks of information processing, administrative and manual tasks. What makes humans retain their advantage include management, decision-making, communication, interpersonal and human-computer interaction. New job positions include data analysis scientist, AI and machine learning specialist, big data specialist and digital marketing and strategy specialist, and more.

Therefore, we need to promote digital literacy. We need to have better understanding of digital technology, not only its benefits but also the drawbacks and ethical risks it poses, such as cybersecurity and personal privacy.

The Hong Kong government has followed this trend. In the Policy Address last year, the government proposed to put more emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics). Then the Education Bureau launched AI modules earlier this year for junior secondary level students. Topics include basic concepts, ethics, computer vision, computer speech and virtual reality, and the impact of robotics and AI on society. This is undoubtedly on the right track. However, I cant help wondering how effective it can be with just six to seven lessons each of 35 minutes, or about four hours of study a year in a busy academic curriculum.

If AI is also applied to school life, it can enrich the learning experience. For example, using AI to relieve teachers of routine tasks, answering students' frequently asked questions (virtual teaching assistants can answer 40% of students' common questions, according to research), and even grading routine assignments (research shows machine learning and predictive modelling can have 85% match with human grading) can assist teachers, so that they can concentrate more on identifying early disengagement of students. The first-hand experience of human-machine collaboration also helps teachers and students to reflect on how to use innovative technology and create greater value.-- Contact us at [emailprotected]

Google News

As the Xahau whitepaper is out, an important warning has been issued to the XRP community.

On Aug. 28, the whitepaper for Xahau, the smart contract sidechain for the XRPL ecosystem, was published. XRP Labs announced its involvement in the launch, publishing the Xahau whitepaper alongside GateHub, Alloy Networks, EvernodeXRPL and others.

Given the enormous potential and prospects afforded, the announcement was no doubt met with excitement. Given the novelty of the innovation, the XRP community received a warning on how to stay safe and not fall prey to scammers.

XRP Forensics, an X account dedicated to preventing and countering financial crime on XRPL, has alerted the XRP community to a potential wave of scams that might arise as a result of the Xahau announcement.

The XRP community is reminded that Xahau is not live yet as only a whitepaper has been released. Also, there are no Xahau airdrops, nor are there any giveaways. There is also neither a trust line nor an IOU. XRP holders are warned not to share their keys with anyone.

In a tweet, Evernode, a Layer 2 protocol that seeks to bring smart contracts to the XRP Ledger via Hooks, explained more about Xahau.

The Xahau Ledger is the proposed Hooks sidechain and represents the smart contract sidechain for the XRPL ecosystem. The Xahau token is called XRP+, which has its own tokenomics.

When an XRPL account is cloned on Xahau, the account is subsequently credited with 2 XRP+, which covers the account reserve of 1 XRP+ and 5 ledger objects (0.2 XRP+ each).

Evernode emphasizes that there is noneed for users to move or burn any XRP from their XRPL account to clone their XRP account and set up a trust line for the Evers airdrop.

It warns that anybody asking them to move their XRP, share keys, join a Telegram or Discord channel or ask for direct messaging on the X platform is a scammer attempting to steal tokens.

Revolutionizing Property Sales: Smart Contracts on the Blockchain – Medium

Technology plays an increasingly pivotal role in streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency in the rapidly evolving landscape of real estate transactions. One of the most revolutionary advancements in this realm is the integration of smart contracts enabled by blockchain technology. Smart contracts can revolutionize the execution of property sales agreements, automating the process while ensuring stringent legal compliance. In this comprehensive article, we will delve into the intricacies of smart contracts, explore their integration with blockchain, and analyze how they can reshape the property sales landscape.

Smart contracts are self-executing digital contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into lines of code. These contracts automate and enforce the execution of predefined actions once the specified conditions are met. Unlike traditional contracts, smart contracts eliminate intermediaries, enhance transparency, and reduce the likelihood of disputes.

Blockchain serves as the underlying technology that powers smart contracts. A blockchain is a decentralized and immutable ledger that records transactions securely and transparently. Each transaction, including those involving smart contracts, is stored as a block in the chain, creating an unalterable record.

Blockchains decentralized nature ensures that no single entity controls the entire network, enhancing security and reducing the risk of fraud. When applied to property sales agreements, blockchain can act as an incorruptible digital notary, validating and storing every transaction step.

The property sales process typically begins with an offer from the buyer and subsequent acceptance from the seller. Through a smart contract, the terms of the offer can be digitally recorded, and the contract can be programmed to automatically proceed to the next stage upon the sellers acceptance.

Smart contracts can establish an escrow mechanism where the buyers funds are held securely until predefined conditions are met. Once both parties fulfill their obligations, the contract can autonomously release the funds to the seller, eliminating the need for intermediaries.

Transferring property titles often involves a complex web of paperwork and intermediaries. Smart contracts can streamline this process by ensuring the automatic transfer of digital titles once the payment conditions are satisfied. This not only accelerates the transaction but also reduces the likelihood of errors.

Property inspections and verifications can be integrated into the smart contract. IoT devices and external data sources can provide real-time information about the propertys condition. The contract can be programmed to proceed only when the specified conditions are met.

Traditional contracts are susceptible to human errors when amendments or contingencies arise. Smart contracts can be coded to handle such situations precisely, ensuring that changes are executed only when both parties agree and meet the stipulated requirements.

One of the most critical aspects of property sales agreements is legal compliance. Smart contracts, while automating processes, must operate within the boundaries of the law. Heres how compliance can be ensured:

Smart contracts can incorporate legal parameters, such as jurisdiction-specific property laws and regulations, into their code. This ensures that the contracts execution aligns with legal requirements.

Oracles are third-party services that provide external data to smart contracts. By integrating oracles, smart contracts can verify real-world events (e.g., property value assessments) and trigger actions accordingly.

Multi-signature functionality can be employed to ensure that critical decisions within the contract require approval from all relevant parties. This prevents unilateral actions that might breach legal obligations.

Blockchains immutable nature means that every action and transaction is permanently recorded. This creates a comprehensive audit trail that can be used for legal purposes and dispute resolution.

While the potential benefits of smart contracts in property sales are immense, several challenges and considerations must be addressed:

Implementing smart contracts requires a level of technical expertise. Real estate professionals may need to collaborate with blockchain developers to ensure proper integration.

Current blockchain platforms face scalability issues when handling a high volume of property transactions simultaneously. This can impact transaction speed and cost.

Property transactions involve sensitive personal and financial information. Ensuring data privacy and protection is paramount when using blockchain technology.

Despite the advantages, the legal recognition of smart contracts varies across jurisdictions. Clarifying their legal status is essential for widespread adoption.

OpenZeppelin launches version 2.0 of its Defender end-to-end … – SiliconANGLE News

Blockchain security solutions provider OpenZeppelin today announced the launch of Defender 2.0, a developer security platform designed for mission-critical coding, auditing, deploying and monitoring blockchain-based applications.

Defender acts as an operational platform that allows blockchain developers to build, deploy and oversee smart contracts, which are fundamental to decentralized applications. Smart contracts are a type of code that self-execute when certain conditions are met without the need for external interaction, they allow for simplified transactions and eliminate middlemen.

Smart contracts on blockchains are commonly associated with cryptocurrencies and govern transactions between parties. Their coding can also be riddled with vulnerabilities and exploits, which makes them a common target for malicious parties.

The Defender 2.0 release comes at a time when decentralized apps, or dapps, have suffered numerous exploits, leading to high losses. In 2023, decentralized finance projects lost an estimated $479 million in cryptocurrencies to hacks and exploits, with July having the largest recorded losses of $77 million in a month.

Defender 2.0s ultimate goal is to help developers make their smart contracts as secure as possible at all stages from development to deployment and production, said Demian Brener, founder of OpenZeppelin.

The new version of Defender 2.0 bakes in a number of modules in to protect the entire lifecycle of a decentralized blockchain project from code, auditing, deployment to monitoring. When coding, developers will get assistance from a machine learning model that will scan their code as they push to GitHub and identify potential vulnerabilities and suggest improvements before they become a problem. An audit module streamlines the process of discovering critical bugs and prioritizing them.

When deploying, Defender 2.0 automates secure smart contract upgrades and execution that allow operations teams to rapidly get up and running avoid unnecessary delays. This module integrates with Safe, previously Gnosis Safe, a decentralized custody protocol, and Fireblocks Inc.s institutional asset custody services for multiparty computation wallet capabilities to increase security.

Finally, monitoring and operations modules will allow teams to respond immediately if anything goes wrong with the smart contracts once deployed through an analytics system that can detect anomalies or catastrophic events. Users have full visibility into their smart contracts while they are live that analyze their risks and behaviors to give them the time and data in the case of an incident.

Project teams can also extend Defender 2.0s platform with custom code using a new Actions module that will allow them to automate workflows for on-chain and off-chain operations.

By combining so many unique features in one place, Defender 2.0 reimagines how blockchain builders tackle development, deployment, monitoring, and response offering a seamless, convenient, and universal solution, said Brener. By incorporating security early on in the development process, builders will be able to ship faster and more safely.

At launch, Defender 2.0 supports over 30 blockchain mainnets and testnets including Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Coinbase Inc.s Base and zSync Era. Big-name blockchain companies already use Defender, such as zkSync creators Matter Labs, blockchain indexing protocol TheGraph and Mean Finance, to keep their smart contract code and decentralized apps safe.

TheCUBEis an important partner to the industry. You guys really are a part of our events and we really appreciate you coming and I know people appreciate thecontent you create as well Andy Jassy

THANK YOU
