WATCH: Jordan Peterson Tells Bill Maher The Left Got ‘Oppressor … – The Daily Wire

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson stunned Bill Mahers live audience earlier this month when he declared that leftists got their typical oppressor, oppressed narrative wrong on the Israel-Hamas war and that the consequences will unfold brutally.

The clinical psychologist and Daily Wire+ host told Maher that leftists have decided Palestinians are the victims and, therefore, morally righteous.

One of the things the Democrats also have to pay the price for, I would say, is their absolute refusal to draw a line between the moderate Democrats and the extremists. Theyre completely incapable of doing that, Peterson said during his November 10 appearance on HBOs Real Time with Bill Maher.

Peterson said he has asked 40 members of Congress the same question, When does the Left go too far?

Well we certainly bloody well saw it in the last month, didnt we? Cause they got the oppressor, oppressed narrative a little mucked up, we might say. And the consequences of that are going to unfold pretty brutally over the next few months, Peterson said.

Peterson said that in the context of the war between Israel and Palestinian terror group Hamas, leftists have already decided the Palestinians are the victims.

If youre a victim, then youre morally righteous. And even more conveniently, if you stand for the victim then youre morally righteous regardless of what you do with your own life, Peterson said.

On October 7, Hamas launched deadly terrorist attacks on Israel that killed more than 1,200 people, including women and children. Israel has responded with airstrikes and a ground offensive.

The problematic worldview festers on university campuses, Peterson explained.

Part of the reason that you see all this foolishness on university campuses too is because people have bought this idiot meta-Marxism, which is that the way to look at every social relationship that people ever have is through the lens of power, Peterson said.

And we can put that squarely at the feet of the universities as far as Im concerned marriage is a patriarchal institution, and business is nothing but oppression, and you have to view every single situation that emerged historically as oppressor vs. oppressed, the best-selling author continued. And then once you get that, which you can get in about two minutes if you sit in a course that teaches that sort of thing, you have a lens to moralize about the whole world through.

And thats at the hands of the radical Left too, Bill, he told Maher.

The full list of Coalition MPs who went to hang out with Jordan … – Crikey

We've previously noted the Australian connections with Jordan Peterson's Alliance for Responsible Citizenship. Turns out there are even more.

As October became November this year, we watched, bursting with pride, as former prime ministers John Howard and Tony Abbott starred at Jordan Petersons Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC). Both showed their commitment to the bold, free-thinking space of that Olympics of centre-right thought by reheating and amplifying things that theyve been saying for literal decades; Abbott thinks climate change isnt real and Howard always had a bit of trouble with multiculturalism. Prominent opponent of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, who also presented, hasnt monopolised the public with her views for nearly as long, but she still played the hits.

As we noted at the time, ARC (which also boasts our former deputy PM John Anderson on the advisory council) attracted a wide variety of conservative luminaries indeed we wonder if former deputy PM Barnaby Joyce was influenced by any of the intellectual currents he encountered there when he was moved to today share his thoughts about the assassination of JFK.

They were also joined by our last PM Scott Morrison, Liberal MPs Angus Taylor, Andrew Hastie, James Paterson and Dan Tehan, and former NSW premier Dominic Perrottet. But who else? Brave bulwark against imaginary threats to ice cream Alex Antic and former communist and mining cosplayer Matt Canavan naturally got along, while lonesome Yes campaigner Julian Leeser was a more surprising attendee.

Then there was:

Artificial Intelligence could aid humanity`s effort to free oceans from plastic, research shows – WION

A research team from The Netherlands has developed a new Artificial Intelligence model that can recognise floating plastics with much more accuracy than conventional satellite images. The AI modelis distinct because it can detect plastic's presence even when the sites are partly covered by clouds or the weather conditions are full of haze.

The study was done by researchers from The Netherlands' Wageningen University and published in iScience.

The application of the research could help systematic removal of plastic litter from the oceans with ships.

The world produces around 350 million tonnes of plastic waste each year, according to a dataset by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Recent studies suggest that between 1 and 2 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans annually, which accumulates along with the aggregations of natural materials like driftwood and algae.

While the total accumulation of marine debris is freely available, the processing of such data needs to be analysed automatically through Artificial Intelligence models.

Marc Ruwurm, Assistant Professor at Wageningen University, said in an official statement, "These models learn from examples provided by oceanographers and remote sensing specialists, who visually identified several thousand instances of marine debris in satellite images on locations across the globe. In this way, they 'trained' the model to recognise plastic debris."

Ruwurm said, "The detector remains accurate even in more challenging conditions; for example, when cloud cover and atmospheric haze make it difficult for existing models to identify marine debris precisely."

The development reflects that deep artificial intelligence detection model can better predict marine debris objects than previous methods such as conventional satellites marking a significant move forward in humanity's bid to ensure clean oceans and sustain marine diversity.

It is particularly beneficial for people who lack financial literacy or do not have access to any traditional financial advisor.

Enhanced Security: Fraudulent activities can be detected and prevented with the help of AI. It can also help with an extra layer of security and protection against financial loss.

Disdvanteges of AI in Personal Finance

Privacy Concerns: Financial tools powered by AI often need access to an individual's personal financial information. Many individuals are concerned about sharing their data security and privacy breaches in such cases.

Limited Human Touch: Even though AI can help an individual with valuable insights and recommendations, it lacks emotional intelligence. Its judgment are different from of a human financial advisor. AI can lead to suboptimal financial decision-making and missed opportunities.

Over-reliance on Technology: AI can hinder a persons ability to think critically and hamper his nuanced decision-making skills. Individuals should only use AI as a tool to supplement their own financial knowledge and understanding and do not become over-dependent on it.

Opinion: Whom should we blame for the war in Gaza? – Chattanooga Times Free Press

by John M. Crisp / Tribune Content Agency

Inflation is slowing, the GDP is up, gas prices are down and last week The Associated Press reported a 14% drop in illegal border crossings in October. Yet my MAGA friends give President Joe Biden no credit.

Conversely, when these numbers go in the wrong direction, they blame Biden. In fact, they blame Biden for just about everything that goes wrong.

So, evidently, does conservative University of Toronto professor Jordan Peterson, who said on the Bill Maher show recently that "you could lay a fair bit of what happened in Israel on Biden's plate."

Peterson's rationale for blaming Biden? He has "more than a sneaking suspicion" that Biden wouldn't let Saudi Arabia into the Abraham Accords because "it would have meant giving Trump credit for something that happened during his term."

So

Thanks within Thanks – The Catholic Thing

Let us suppose that on Thanksgiving Day your mother, a woman of outstanding Catholic piety and adorned with the virtues, has baked an artisanal loaf of sourdough bread and, having sliced off a piece, has placed it still steaming, buttered, before you on a plate. Smiling, she awaits your response.

Something of the highest nobility has been done for you, and now it becomes a test, to see whether your character is appropriate to the gift.

According to St. Thomas Aquinas, to respond properly to this kindness, you must draw upon four distinct virtues not one, but four. These virtues are as if nested, because the principles or causes of the breads being given to you are themselves nested.

The First Cause of your having received this bread is God, who made you and your mother, and her virtues, and the wheat and everything else God who is still intimately concerned with them, knowing even the number of molecules in the slice (like the hairs on your head) and lets not omit it also its flavor-fulness and crumb, and how it specially delights you.

This original cause of good requires on your part the response of due cult (as St. Thomas puts it). And so, you say a blessing, perhaps the traditional Hamotzi (who brings forth), like the one Jesus would have said:

Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu

Blessed are You Lord, our God, King of the Universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.

To respond properly to this gift here and now, of this particular piece of bread, it becomes due, to you, to worship God.

What you say in worship is indeed a blessing. We call it saying grace. Yet grace here means expressing that we take pleasure (Latin: gratus) in the gift and the giver.

Or we can call it giving a thank the original term was singular, related to think meaning that we think of, we tarry in thought upon, the gift and the giver with delight. But because, strictly, we are thus turning with thanks towards the one we recognize as our Creator, we are worshipping God, through the virtue of religion. So religion is the first of the four virtues that we must show.

But the cause or principle of your receiving the bread there is not merely God, your creator, but also your mother, your co-creator without whom you would not have been born, and would not have survived to sit there, and would not have learned the word bread, or good manners in eating it, or that you should smile, and chew 21 times (or whatever), and break the bread before taking a bite.

And likely it was your mother who taught you the words even to say grace. And so yes, a machine might stuff bread down your throat. But that you are in a position to take and eat it as a human being is mainly the work of your mother and father. Everything that is received is received in the manner of the recipient, and this manner good manners is given to you by that woman there.

Now, a specific type of reverence and indeed worship (in the old sense) is due to our parents as such. You know exactly what this is if your mom has passed away, because no one else can give you bread in the way that it was your mom who gave you bread. St. Thomas calls the habit of showing such reverence, piety. So this is the second virtue you need to draw upon: piety, nested within religion.

And if as is likely your mother taught piety to you also, then your giving thanks is itself her gift. But she is Gods gift, and thus Thank you, mom is twice nested within Thank you, God.

But then your mother, we are supposing, is adorned with grace and virtues. Suppose she were St. Zlie Gurin Martin (the mother of St. Thrse of Lisieux), or St. Wiktoria Ulma. But perhaps its enough to say: shes a baptized wife and mother in the state of grace. Such a dignity is already not natural: it is literally out of this world.

Or simply ponder what any mother can claim by way of achievement: the dignity and merits of nights getting up with her children, scrubbing floors and cleaning, of feeling cares and shedding tears, of shopping for you and the never-ending car rides all those dignities we honor mothers for (we used to honor mothers for) on Mothers Day. She has them even when it is not Mothers Day.

If a king or ambassador if Travis Kelce had brought you the bread, you would have been overcome with astonishment. Jordan Peterson was in my house, and he thought to cut a slice of bread and bring it to me. But one greater than Jordan Peterson (for you) is here.

A distinct virtue is needed for recognizing such excellence, and for seeing it as a secondary cause under God, and ordered within paternal and maternal authority we need a third virtue for expressing thoughts of delight (thanks) on that basis. The ancients called it observantia, observance.

And then, fourth, there is the mere fact that someone or other did some good thing or other to you: acting as a benefactor, to whom you are a beneficiary, not of a random, but of a deliberate act of kindness. Now the due response, when you look at the gift simply under the aspect of a benefactor and benefit, becomes simply giving thanks purely so, with nothing added. Thus (St. Thomas says) the fourth requisite virtue is gratitude nested within the other three.

This Thanksgiving, then, give thanks that you can give a fourfold thanks. At dinner, give thanks for the benefaction of your fellow man, grateful too for Gods polity of bestowed excellence, while you honor your mother and father, and bless the God of all creation who brings forth bread, and turkey and gravy, from the earth.

Johnson’s upcoming resignation will trigger political chess game – The Steubenville Herald-Star

YOUNGSTOWN U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson said he will resign his elected post in the first quarter of next year, before he is scheduled to take over on March 15 as president of Youngstown State University.

Johnson, R-Marietta, was hired for the new post Tuesday by an 8-1 vote of the universitys board of trustees.

His resignation will likely result in several Republican candidates seeking to succeed him in the 6th Congressional District seat. The 6th is considered a safe Republican district that takes in all or part of 11 counties including Jefferson, Harrison, Carroll, Belmont, Columbiana, Mahoning, Monroe, Noble, Washington, Stark and Tuscarawas counties. Mahoning is the districts most-populous county.

Dec. 20 is the election filing deadline for candidates wanting to run in the March 19 primary for the full two-year term.

With Johnsons resignation occurring after the Dec. 20 deadline, the state would likely be unable to schedule a special primary in March and then a special election in August for the seat.

A Republican and Democratic primary is first needed before a general election for the unexpired term.

That would mean the seat wouldnt be filled until next Novembers election.

It would leave the 6th Congressional District without a representative for most of 2024. And even if an August special general election were held, the district still would be without a representative for about six to seven months.

James A. Traficant Jr., who represented Mahoning and most of Trumbull counties in the U.S. House, was expelled July 24, 2002, after being convicted of 10 felonies, including bribery and racketeering. That left that district without a representative for five months.

State Sen. Michael Rulli, R-Salem, who has eyed higher office, said he is strongly considering attempting to succeed Johnson in the district. Rullis state Senate district includes all of Mahoning and Columbiana counties.

Rulli said he was planning to run last year for Congress if he were in a district that didnt include a Republican incumbent. But Johnson, who has represented Columbiana County since he was first elected in 2010, kept that county in his district.

We thought we were two or three years away from this decision, and now its only a couple of weeks, Rulli said. Im trying to work through things. Just that its an idea and a possibility is beautiful.

He plans to announce his decision shortly.

Other potential candidates are state Rep. Ron Ferguson, R-Wintersville; Christina Hagan of Marlboro, a former state House member who lost a congressional election in 2020 to Democrat Tim Ryan; and Madison Gesiotto Gilbert, who lost a congressional district race in 2022 and serves as a national spokeswoman at the Republican National Committee. Hagan and Gesiotto Gilbert live outside the 6th District, but a congressional candidate only needs to live in Ohio to run.

Sources say Christian Palich, who lives in the Columbus area and is vice president of public affairs for Taft Stettinius & Hollister, a law firm, was interested, but has since changed his mind. Palich is a former president of the Ohio Coal Association, worked in the Donald Trumps presidential administration at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as well as for Johnson.

ASIC and RBA Acknowledge ASX’s CHESS Solution Design … – Reserve Bank of Australia

Today, ASIC and the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) (the Regulators) acknowledged ASXs announcementof a solution design to replace CHESS.

The product-based solution and vendor announced by ASX is a foundational step in getting the CHESSreplacement program back on track.

This follows advice provided by the ASX Cash Equities Clearing and Settlement Advisory Group (AdvisoryGroup), a small group of recognised industry leaders established to advise ASX Clear and ASX Settlementon strategic clearing and settlement issues led by independent chair Alan CameronAO.

ASIC Chair Joe Longo said, `This is an important decision by ASX, but there is still a long way to go todeliver a CHESS replacement. It will be critical for ASX to now focus on engaging with the market on thedetailed design of the CHESS Replacement program with a realistic and achievable timeline forimplementation.

The Advisory Group considered that a product-based solution, presented by ASX, and assessed by it, is anappropriate option to support a safe and timely replacement of CHESS. In addition, the Advisory Groupresponded with recommendations to ASX to provide clear statements on the industry impact, including thebenefits to the market of the selected solution and ASXs commitment to building a system that isinteroperable. The Advisory Group also noted the importance of the competition in clearing and settlementlegislation, and supporting ASIC rules to provide regulatory backing for interoperability.

I would like to thank Alan Cameron and the members of the Advisory Group for their work and advice.I look forward to the Advisory Groups ongoing role in providing input throughout the CHESSreplacement program, and on other strategic clearing and settlement issues, Mr Longo added.

RBA Governor Michele Bullock said, Todays announcement sets a new direction for the CHESSReplacement program. The Advisory Group, under Independent Chair Alan Cameron, has played an importantrole in bringing the interests of the market as a whole into todays decision.

The Advisory Groups input will remain critical throughout the implementation phase of thereplacement solution. It will also be critical for ASX to address the findings from various externalaudits and reviews so that past issues with the program are not repeated.

In the coming weeks, the Regulators expect ASX to publish its special report covering the ASXLicensees current portfolio, program and project management frameworks, and an assessment of thoseframeworks against internationally recognised standards. In addition, ASX will publish the external auditof this report undertaken by Ernst & Young.

ASX will also need to ensure existing CHESS continues to be maintained to meet ongoing resilience, reliability, integrity, and security requirements. This will be a continued focus for ASIC and the RBA.

The replacement of CHESS is a complex and technical program of work. It is critically important thatrobust and transparent governance arrangements are put in place by ASX to manage the risks associatedwith such an implementation.

ASIC and the RBA are co-regulators of licensed clearing and settlement (CS) facilities.

The RBA and ASIC have separate but complementary supervisory responsibilities for the four CS facilitiesin the ASX Group: two central counterparties ASX Clear Pty Ltd and ASX Clear (Futures) Pty Ltd and two securities settlement facilities ASX Settlement Pty Ltd and Austraclear Limited.

The RBA has determined standards for the purposes of ensuring that CS facility licensees conduct theiraffairs in a way that promotes the overall stability of the Australian financial system. The RBA conductsannual assessments of how well the ASX CS facilities are complying with their statutory obligations tocomply with those standards and to do all other things necessary to reduce systemic risk.

ASIC has separate, but complementary, responsibilities for the licensing and supervision of CS facilitieslicensed under Part 7.3of the Act. ASIC is responsible for assessing whether a CS facilitysservices are provided in a fair and effective way. ASIC also has regulatory responsibilities foroperators of licensed markets, including the ASX market. In carrying out supervision and assessments ofCS facilities, the RBA and ASIC work closely as appropriate.
