Double-Take Move v6.0 Migrating a "Full Server" to HyperV – Video

11-06-2012 07:42 Double-Take Move is the best way to migrate data, applications or entire servers from ANY platform to any other platform. Physical, Virtual or Cloud. Version 6 of Double-Take Move is coupled closely with Double-Take Availability v6.0 and it simplifies the process further by taking advantage of the fully unified Double-Take Console, Push Installation, Test Migration capability and successful migrations every time with minimal downtime. In this demo, I complete a "Full Server to Hyper-V Migration". The "Full Server" in this demo happens to be a Microsoft SQL Server running on a vSphere 5 Windows Server 2008R2, but it could well have been a physical server or a Windows server on any other platform.

12Gb/s SAS Flash manager enables high-performance SSDs for cloud servers

New Products

June 11, 2012 // Julien Happich

PMC has announced a 12Gb/s SAS Flash manager (SFM-12G) for the next wave of enterprise solid state drives (SSDs), claimed to be the first end-to-end 12Gb/s SAS solution from the protocol controller to the SSD controller.

The PM8304 SFM-12G enables more than 300,000 I/Os per second (IOPS) in a 2.5 SAS SSD, more than double the performance of today's 6Gb/s SAS SSDs. When paired with the industrys highest performing protocol controller, the SPCv 12G, cloud server and big data storage manufacturers can deliver a stunning 2.4 million IOPS in an eight-drive, enterprise-class flash subsystem.

The PM8304 SFM-12G combines the manufacturer's proven 12Gb/s SAS technology with the industrys lowest latency and innovative maxLIFE adaptive error correction, enabling storage equipment and drive manufacturers to deliver true enterprise-class SSDs. Historically, SSD controllers had to trade off latency, a key benefit of NAND, against life expectancy, a key requirement for enterprise systems. PMCs maxLIFE technology solves this dilemma by extending the usable life of SSDs and maintaining the lowest error-correction latency over the life of the drive. This new technology allows OEMs to take advantage of the substantial economic benefits of MLC flash without compromising enterprise-class durability.

Hostway Sees “Big” Data Moving Into The Cloud – Writes “Big” Press Release

New York (PRWEB) June 11, 2012

Hostway Corporation, a leading provider of cloud, managed and hybrid cloud services, today released a video featuring experts from Gartner and Microsoft offering information and advice on moving big data and mission-critical applications to the cloud. Simultaneously, Hostway announced the availability of SQL Server 2012 for the hosts Windows managed hosting plans and cloud servers. The 2012 edition adds flexible deployment options across on-premise, private and public environments.

These announcements come as Hostway prepares to discuss the trend of moving big data, mission-critical and database-intensive applications to virtual environments at the Cloud Expo in New York City. Hostway discusses these trends and its explosive cloud growth in detail in a video featuring Lydia Leong, Research VP from Gartner, Aaron Hollobaugh, VP of Marketing from Hostway, Chris Samson, Senior Hosting Technology Specialist from Microsoft and Leen Kashyap, Strategy Manager - Cloud Infrastructure from Microsoft.

The video examines the evolution of the cloud from a development and testing environment to a flexible and scalable platform for mission-critical applications and data storage. Experts from each company discuss the importance of building a strong virtual infrastructure and best practices for migrating mission-critical and database-intensive applications to virtual platforms.

SMBs, Cloud Growth, and Big Data Over the past several years, Hostway has built cloud platforms that support over 600,000 direct customers and over 2 million partnership-based customers. The growth is directly tied to Hostways ability to provide enterprise-class technologies and services at a price point that allows SMBs to take advantage of technologies typically reserved for large organizations.

We provide services to companies of all sizes, but we particularly target our solutions to support the enterprise needs of fast-growth SMBs, noted John Martis, Hostway President. We want to stay on the pulse of innovation and our customers are how we accomplish that. We provide access to enterprise technologies to support their fast growth and in turn, we learn from them and share in their success.

BidAbode, a fast-growth online real estate auction website, chose Hostways hybrid cloud solution to support its growth. BidAbodes reliance on a virtual environment to support its mission-critical and database-intensive applications is an example of an innovative SMB trusting a redundant, instantly scalable public cloud to support its often unpredictable infrastructure needs.

As a startup, we hoped to grow quickly, and we are excited to be experiencing that growth, said BidAbode CTO Jared Gallardo. Hostways hybrid cloud hosting has provided the scalable infrastructure we need to support our real-time, resource-intensive auctions.

Hostway traditional managed hosting customers are migrating to cloud hosting due to the cost savings and business benefits, namely flexibility and scalability, over purchasing and maintaining stand-alone dedicated servers. Microsoft has responded to this growing trend by creating features of SQL Server 2012 that directly enhance the ability to deploy databases in the cloud.

Microsoft SQL 2012 Optimized for Cloud There are substantial upgrades added to Microsoft SQL Server 2012, most notably that its now cloud-ready, states Mike Robski, Vice President of Research & Development for Hostway. Data can be synchronized between databases via the cloud, and multiple user experiences can be powered across multiple devices.

Pulsant Advises SMEs to Take a Fresh Look at Cloud

READING, England, June 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

With smart data fuelling competitive advantage, there has never been a better time to migrate storage solutions to cloud

Since cloud started stealing headlines five years ago, its role within SMEs has changed dramatically - according to leading cloud hosting provider, Pulsant.

No longer seen as purely a capacity/cost balancing tool, 'Infrastructure as a Service' (IaaS) is fast emerging as the most flexible storage option for handling the complex data applications that are essential to driving competitive advantage.

Involved in cloud hosting since its inception over ten years ago, Pulsant confirms that it is increasingly SMEs - not large corporates - that represent the vanguard behind Software as a Service (SaaS), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)-style technologies, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and mobile cloud apps.

Pulsant believes that these new web and mobile applications, richer digital presence and growing online sales will accelerate demand for cloud storage in 2012.

It also predicts that many SMEs will re-examine cloud storage to help them cope with increased data footprints as information management, analytics and remote and mobile working become vital to their performance.

Mark Howling, CEO of Pulsant, states: "Private and public cloud is now a major strategy for any CIO aiming to help their organisation deliver high quality services to internal audiences and customers, over a variety of channels, while operating efficient data flows. Both types of cloud use virtualisation software to create 'virtual server' environments - on infrastructure either owned and shared across a single organisation (private cloud) or rented and shared across many different businesses (public cloud). Offering elastic provisioning and optimised data performance, cloud reduces the volume, power and costs associated with traditional server solutions."

In the past many SMEs have been reluctant to embrace cloud as virtualisation carries a three per cent increase in overhead compared to traditional hosting. However, time and experience has revealed that, for many organisations, overall operational savings are returned tenfold. Indeed, many of Pulsant's own customers report a 40 per cent reduction in storage running costs.

Howling confirms, "As many SMEs turn to cloud, we are helping them get the best out of their investment by making it easier to choose a system that's right for them. It's all about building reassurance and establishing trust - vital if we are to see mass adoption of cloud hosting across SMEs. This means supporting cloud with better firewalling, more rigorous IP management and fail over processes. Taking all this into consideration using cloud from a proven supplier with certified processes and offering 24/7 support, will undoubtedly become the preferred route to cloud success."
