Analyst projects Ethereum potentially to $2k amid market consolidation – crypto.news

FxPro senior analyst Alex Kuptsikevicha projects Ethereums price could further dip towards $2,000, as the altcoin is down by over 8% weekly.

The crypto market is experiencing a period of subdued volatility, with the total market capitalization hovering around $1.6 trillion for the third consecutive day. Simultaneously, equity indices in the stock market have also significantly declined in the past 24 hours.

However, the impact on cryptocurrency investors has been minimal. Kuptsikevich thinks that the fall in stock values is seen more as a result of individual corporate stories rather than an indication of a global shift in market sentiment.

Bitcoin is benefiting from this consolidation phase, with its market share exceeding 50% once again. On the other hand, Ethereum has found itself at the lower end of the consolidation range, which it has been in for most of December. Kuptsikevich predicts that Ethereum is showing signs of possibly dropping to the $2,100 area, a level that marked the upper end of its November consolidation phase.

Kuptsikevich suggests that a further decline towards the $2,000 mark is possible, citing the cryptocurrency markets inherent volatility. This potential dip could mirror a similar retracement in Bitcoin to the $37,500 level.

The SEC has also delayed its decision on BlackRocks application for a spot Ethereum ETF until March 10. While some experts remain optimistic about the ETFs approval by May, with a probability of 50-to-70%, others are wary of regulatory resistance.

The introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. has broadened the appeal of cryptocurrencies to a wider audience. According to the head of institutional at Coinbase, this marks a potential shift towards mainstream adoption of digital currencies.

However, the influx of new capital into new cryptocurrencies is expected to be a gradual process, unfolding over months or even years.

Dana White: Jordan Peterson praises Dana White for refusing to condemn Sean Strickland’s controversial comments at … – Sportskeeda

Jordan Peterson recently praised Dana White for how he handled backlash pertaining to the comments Sean Strickland made during his pre-fight media interactions prior to his title fight against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297.

During the UFC 297 post-fight press conference, White took aim at a reporter for his line of questioning regarding Strickland's comments and censoring fighters for what they can say when promoting their fights. Peterson took to his X account, where he complimented the UFC CEO by mentioning that he is a strong leader:

White doesn't appear to be backing down from his stance, but it remains to be seen whether he himself believes there are instances that would require a stern warning should a fighter get too carried away with their trash talk.

Jordan Peterson has been a polarizing figure with his beliefs and comments in recent years, especially in Canada, where he was a former professor at the University of Toronto.

Despite the criticism, Peterson has been very successful and his lectures and appearances on podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience have gained plenty of attention.

Dana White has also been a polarizing figure, but that hasn't stopped him from being successful and operating much differently than commissioners or presidents of professional sports leagues.

Peterson recently backed the UFC CEO for the comments he made in response to a reporter's question about whether Sean Strickland had gone too far with his comments during the UFC 297 fight week. White mentioned that he will never demand fighters follow a set of rules as to what they can say:

Even with his considerable resources, Peterson has a tougher row to hoe than Elon Musk confronting DEI ideology with threats of embarrassing bureaucrats whose demonstrable immunity to embarrassment has now been reinforced by the courts.

Likely they will not rue anything. Instead they will revel in their empowerment to flaunt the charter. Godspeed Jordan!

Kope Inokai, Toronto

In the case of Jordan Peterson, the Divisional Court did its job. Its decision left Dr. Peterson bludgeoned and bleeding, lying prostrate. And, when he reached up to a higher court for help (justice), he was slapped down again. The Chief Justice of the Court, and the panel of justices who penned both decisions, achieved their pre-determined purpose a complete public humiliation of Jordan Peterson.

Take heart, Jordan, you are good man and a great citizen with the fullness of valour and integrity which your judicial masters completely lack.

Michael A. Menear, London, Ont.

While I generally concur with Professor Petersons points of view on the state of free speech in Canada and the overreach of his professional organization, I believe that his repeated public rants will be increasingly seen as counterproductive and eventually self-defeating. I suggest that his best course of action would be to move on, and decamp to the U.S.A. or elsewhere.

John Ivisons rosy view on the merits of the Davos conferences was neatly juxtaposed against Sabrina Maddeauxs lost generation column and Jesse Klines piece on the idiocy (and dangers) of blind faith in the net-zero objective.

Ivison may scoff at conspiracy theories but I would prefer it if all of those elites would get their heads out of the clouds, cut the (private jet-fuelled) virtue signalling, and focus on solutions that improve the lives of real people. Failing to do so should result in the conference being re-named Net Nero because those folks are fiddling while the rest of the world is burning.

It would be as bold for the International Court of Justice to declare it has no jurisdiction in the litigation opposing South Africa and Israel, thereby terminating the lawsuit, as it would be for it to use its provisional measures jurisdiction to order a ceasefire.

The international legal order, in my view, would best be served if the court issued interim orders for humanitarian relief, targeting Israel where feasible without compromising its rights of self-defence. Regrettably, no orders could lie against Hamas, because it has no standing before the court. But, if South Africa had the interests of Palestinians in Gaza at heart, it would intervene by appealing to the Hamas leadership to act in a way that has the best interests of the suffering civilians at heart.

Of course, its more interesting to South Africa to parlay its notorious antisemitism into a legal proceeding of dubious value, playing the genocide card. Trying to make Israel look bad is more politically attractive than doing good.

Howard Greenfield, Montreal

Both the low-tech genocide in Rwanda and the high-tech (for the day) genocide of the Holocaust share horrors beyond the pale, though the massacre of as many as 800,000 Rwandans occurred over some 100 days of absolute unimaginable frenzy, while the Holocaust slaughter of six million Jews was a years-long studied enterprise.

The Genocide Convention of 1948 was adopted on the heels of the Holocaust, which was a mind-boggling methodical attempt to find and eradicate each and every living Jew. That the Nazis continued their macabre efforts, even upon facing defeat, is almost incomprehensible.

As for Hamas attempting to eradicate Israel, their theology goes far beyond that. Much like the Nazis, their unbridled hatred of Jews not just Zionists knows no bounds. Given the opportunity, they would commit genocide as the term was first formulated.

Re: Toronto school boards N-word ban targets white authors like Steinbeck, Twain Joseph Brean, Jan. 10

As an English teacher and English teacher-educator (now retired), I was appalled by the decision taken by the Toronto District Catholic School Board to remove all books containing the N word from its curricula.

In my experience, the problem is not with the books it is with how the books are taught. Educators need to consider the three Cs: curriculum, communication, and context, when making curriculum decisions.

Advertisement 6

This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.

Under curriculum, they should consider among other things whether the book is truly age-appropriate. Too often I have seen books whose content is decidedly adult, placed on courses for Grades 9 and 10 for no other reason that the language is simple or in the case of To Kill A Mockingbird, it is told from the point of view of a young girl. The course should also include other books that can counter the victim-narrative which we find all too often.

Under communication, educators need to determine what could be deemed offensive in a text, then decide whether the text has merit and should be taught, and why. This information should be shared with students and parents. Open dialogue is crucial.

And finally, books must be taught within their historical context so that students understand why and how certain acts occurred. If necessary, partner with a history teacher to ensure students see the full picture. Teaching a book out of context can lead to hurt and offence.

Too often, as an English teacher-educator, I was presented with courses of study that were genre-based, rather than theme-based. Organizing a course or a unit around a theme such as Black People in North America, would make far more sense than teaching To Kill A Mockingbird on its own as the course novel with no context.

Is it not interesting that while we are now banning classic literature from our schools, e.g. Of Mice and Men, Huckleberry Finn, To Kill a Mockingbird etc., it is now apparently perfectly legal to be antisemitic and violently so for example threatening to put someone six feet deep, stopping traffic on a public bridge, and damaging Jewish-owned premises?

What is the future of this once wonderful country to which so many of us immigrated for peaceful coexistence?

Danielle Smith’s dangerous dance with Tucker Carlson | Canada’s National Observer: Climate News – Canada’s National Observer

I swear, I didnt want to write about this. Much as it may shock some of my critics, Im a big believer in freedom of expression. If Alberta Premier Danielle Smith wants to participate in a white grievance festival with people like Conrad Black, Rex Murphy, Brett Wilson and Jordan Peterson, well, she has that right. If she wants to share a stage with Tucker Carlson, a man who clearly appreciates the political leadership in Russia more than Canada, she has that right too. And if she wants to smile as he makes homophobic jokes about Justin Trudeau in order to delight a crowd filled with luminaries like Theo Fleury, Pat King and Maxime Bernier, well, you get the idea.

Just because you can do something doesnt mean you should, though. Carlson has made a career out of trading in dangerous and deranged conspiracies, whether its the great replacement theory (not surprisingly, the audiences at his two events were overwhelmingly white) or the notion that the 2020 U.S. election was stolen from Donald Trump. Hes referred to Canada in the past as Americas retarded cousin and suggested more recently it should be liberated from the tyranny of its democratically elected government. If Smith had even a single patriotic bone left in her body, she didnt show it.

It was embarrassing enough as an Albertan to see Smith tweet out a picture of her posing gleefully with Carlson, Peterson and Black. Her dig at the mainstream media was both predictable and ironic: Black and Peterson, after all, are inextricably linked with the National Post, which receives millions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies every year. As former environment minister Shannon Phillips said, This is beneath the dignity of the office.

Get daily news from Canada's National Observer

But Smiths decision to involve Carlson in her petty feud with Canadas environment minister crossed a clear and bright line. I wish you would put Steven Guilbeault in your crosshairs, she told Carlson, effectively inviting him to turn his heavily armed audiences attention towards a fellow elected official. If she didnt know what she was doing by using that language, she should have. And if she did, well, then we have a much bigger problem on our hands.

In Canada, free expression has limits. Thats written right there in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, a document that conservatives seem to be awfully fond of citing lately. Inciting violence towards another Canadian seems like a pretty clear test of those limits, especially coming from someone with a platform as large as Smith. But there are apparently no limits when it comes to how far Smith will go in order to own the libs.

Anyone tempted to excuse her words ought to reflect first on what happened in Edmonton earlier this week when a heavily armed man stormed city hall and discharged an automatic weapon and Molotov cocktail before being subdued. The accuseds apparent motivation? In addition to mentioning the war in Gaza, he listed off a number of tropes and topics that are standard fare on the right. Im just tired of seeing the tyranny and corruption taking over our society and our lives, the 28-year-old security guard said in a recorded video that has since been deleted. Good, honest and God-fearing men and women must be our doctors, law enforcement, diplomats, politicians and teachers that rise up against this wokeism disease thats leading our generation into deception. We need good men and women in all workforces to promote a pro-human life.

Sound familiar? His stated concerns about inflation, the housing crisis, immigration and the unrest thats happening between us because of multiculturalism should, too. Theyre all popular topics among conservative rage farmers in Canada and the politicians who keep enabling them. This is what so-called stochastic terrorism looks like and were lucky this particular example of it didnt have more lethal consequences.

The next one could, though. Thats especially true when Canadian Conservatives seem determined to invite MAGA-style politics into our country. Keeping their supporters hopped up on fear and loathing of the other might help generate cash and clicks just ask Carlson and his former employer, Fox News but it can also create an addiction thats hard to break. With all the vitriol and venom that people like Pierre Poilievre and Smith keep heaping towards Justin Trudeau and some of his senior cabinet ministers, its only a matter of time before someone tries to put those words into action. Maybe they already have.

Given that, it would be nice if Smith walked her comments back and turned down the temperature on some of her disagreements with Ottawa. It would be nice if conservatives turned their backs on the sort of divisive rhetoric and dangerous revenge fantasies that have come to define the Republican Party. Im not holding my breath for either of those things to happen. Instead, Im resigned to waiting for the next outbreak of politically motivated violence and hoping it doesnt happen for a long, long time.

Reports suggest Peterson could leave KU for alma mater Texas A&M – KUsports

Sports

Kansas defensive backs coach Jordan Peterson, center in black with white hat, yells instructions to the defense during a drill at spring practice on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

The coaching carousel may have dealt another blow to Kansas staff.

Kansas co-defensive coordinator Jordan Peterson who just earned that title via a December promotion, and previously served as defensive backs coach, safeties coach and a defensive analyst is expected to join his alma mater Texas A&M to become the Aggies safeties coach. Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com first reported the prospective move Saturday afternoon, then FootballScoop followed suit.

Petersons departure would deprive Lance Leipolds staff of one of its most successful recruiters and position coaches.

On the recruiting trail, Peterson led the creation of an Arizona pipeline that yielded four Jayhawk signees in the class of 2024; on the field, he has overseen the development of standout all-conference corners Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson, both of whom have announced plans to return to KU next season.

Leipold said in December that the new co-defensive coordinator title was an acknowledgment of Petersons value to the program.

In September, Peterson also called the defense for the season opener, which defensive coordinator Brian Borland had to miss due to a medical procedure.

Peterson actually predates Leipolds KU staff, as he joined in 2020 to serve under Les Miles, following stints at A&M (as a graduate assistant) and then Fresno State and New Mexico.

Texas A&M has a new coach in former Duke head coach Mike Elko, who previously served as A&Ms defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021.

KU previously lost its offensive coordinator, Andy Kotelnicki, to Penn State in December. The school announced the promotions of Peterson and Jim Zebrowski on the same day that news came out. KU ultimately replaced Kotelnicki with Jeff Grimes, and now may need to search for a new position coach.

One of a few players to react to the reports, 2024 cornerback signee Jalen Todd, posted a facepalm emoji on X. Fellow 2024 recruit Deshawn Warner, of Goodyear, Arizona, opted for a broken heart emoji.

Jordan Peterson says his psychologists licence is as good as gone amid row with regulators – Gript

Canadian psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson has said his licence is as good as gone after a higher court in Canada ruled that the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) can compel him to attend what he has called re-education classes.

Peterson said that while in the process of writing two books and preparing for a multi-city tour, he also had to face the dismal reality that in some fundamental sense, Canadas Charter of Rights isnt worth the paper its written on.

Commenting on the consequences of the courts decision to allow a professional to be completed to attend re-education classes he said, professionals in this country can say goodbye to their right to express themselves, politically or otherwise, politically or professionally.

Defending the material that landed him in hot water he said, I dont think that my tweets, some of my tweets, were political in the sense that I was criticizing certain government figures.

Calling Canadain PM Justin Trudeau a WEF puppet he referred to criticisms he had levelled at Trudeaus former chief of staff saying, I suppose you could argue that those were political opinions and fair enough, but I have the right to my political opinions,

Noting criticism he had gotten for his tweets about trans-gender celebrity Elliot (Ellen) Page, he said

I think its incumbent on psychologists with an ounce of integrity to point out the danger of self-deluded, narcissistic, self-destructive celebrities parade their proclivity self-steralise and self-mutilate as a public good,

Peterson said that censorship of freedom of speech in Canada would likely render professional psychologists unable to ask critical questions of clients presenting with gender dysphoria which he said he regarded his remarks as a professional obligation,

Peterson said he has worked very hard to earn and maintain his professional licence and that there had been no complaints made against him until he became a public figure.

Remarking that letting the woke members of the College of Psychologists of Ontario have their way with his professional credentials annoys him deeply he said that he was not dependent on holding onto the licence for financial reasons as he has other income streams.

Im not dependent on that licence anymore. I have other tricks up my sleeve, so to speak anyways, and at some point, Im going to determine that being a member of their pathetic little incestuous, ideologically addled resentment ridden, bureaucratic pea brained, Microsoft club is not worth the effort. he said.

Peterson continued, that these bloody colleges regulatory boards pose a major threat to the free speech and free thought of all Canadians, not just professionals,

Canadians can think for themselves. he said.

Last week Gript reported on the court decision in a case which arose after a series of complaints were made against Peterson in relation to comments he has made on social media and during interviews on popular podcasts like The Joe Rogan Show.

Peterson has said that although the OAPs function is to regulate the relationships between psychologists and their clients, none of those who submitted complaints about him were clients of his.

Law professor Bruce Pardy wrote that the CPO committee did not conduct a disciplinary hearing and never concluded that Peterson committed professional misconduct. Nevertheless, the college has promised that failing to complete the program may result in an allegation of professional misconduct and the commencement of actual disciplinary proceedings.

After the decision was made to allow the CPO to compel Peterson to attend the classes he called for the board to resign and apologise to him.

Tucker Carlson talks Trudeau and Trump in Calgary with Danielle Smith – The Globe and Mail

Open this photo in gallery:

Tucker Carlson, pictured in West Palm Beach, Fla. on July 12, 2023, took part in a conversation with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith at an event in Calgary on Wednesday.Lynne Sladky/The Associated Press

Tucker Carlson, the American darling of right-wing commentary and conspiracy theories, had thousands of Albertans cheering and clapping at a cross between a comedy show and a political rally in Calgary, where he interviewed the Premier.

Mr. Carlson, who was booted from Fox News last April, delivered a rapid-fire speech and participated in a quick panel discussion Wednesday afternoon, opining on a range of topics and people, from Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland (a mentally deficient fascist) to former U.S. president Donald Trump (orange ascendant).

He then did a Q&A with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who prefaced the segment by noting she doesnt necessarily agree with everyone who interviews her.

Mr. Carlson advised the conservative audience on how to deal with their political adversaries, particularly Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Lets say you had some sort of weird Prime Minister who liked to dress up in fuzzy costumes. It would be super important to point that out a lot. Like, relentlessly, he said. Theres really only one way to combat that, and that is by pointing out what an absurd poseur this guy is.

Hes like a ridiculous figure, Mr. Carlson said. You should dislike and resist Justin Trudeau and this government to the maximum extent of your ability. Before you do that, you should just laugh at him until you cant breathe.

Roughly 4,000 people attended the downtown event, according to oil man Brett Wilson, who joined Mr. Carlson on stage with Jordan Peterson, a psychologist and right-wing Canadian commentator, for a short panel discussion. There were 73 tables, where guests were served lunch, and rows and rows of seating for people with lesser tickets.

Mr. Carlson, who received multiple standing ovations during the afternoon, dismissed riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as a setup orchestrated by the left. He did not provide any evidence to substantiate the claim, though he received applause of agreement from the audience.

It is still to this day shrouded in secrecy and deception. And I know a lot about this subject. Im from Washington.

Mr. Carlson was also scheduled to speak in Edmonton Wednesday evening. Ms. Smith was set to deliver introductory remarks there, according to her office.

The Calgary crowd in the afternoon welcomed Ms. Smith with a standing ovation. Mr. Carlson said the two had dinner the evening prior and had the best time. Their discussion focused on energy, but he started by asking the Premier about the four men charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the wake of the 2022 border blockade at Coutts, Alta., in protest of the public-health restrictions tied to COVID-19.

The men are in remand, and their supporters, who made up a vocal part of the afternoon crowd, believe they are political prisoners and have been pressing for their release.

Ms. Smith referenced a phone call she had with Artur Pawlowski, a street preacher charged for his role in Coutts. After becoming Premier, Ms. Smith leaned on her former justice minister, asking him about the extent to which he could get involved in the case. Albertas ethics commissioner determined that Ms. Smith interfered in the justice system in a way that is a threat to democracy.

And so the Premier noted Wednesday that there are limitations on what she can do. But she still framed prosecutions tied to COVID as political and lamented her inability to take action.

It is striking to me that a political action can be taken to launch a police charge and criminal proceedings, but you cant take a political action and say: You know what, on sober second thought, weve reconsidered. Were wrong and we are going to vacate these charges.

She added: I truly wish I could do more. But Ive had my wings clipped in the last year.

Ms. Smith rose to power in large part thanks to Albertans who were frustrated by restrictions tied to COVID. That alliance resurfaced Wednesday, a day after the Federal Court ruled that Ottawas decision to invoke the Emergencies Act in an effort to end the 2022 protests was not legally justified.

Im not proud of our country for having frozen bank accounts. I am not proud of our country for having jailed pastors, the Premier said. Im not proud of our country for the fact that we still have people languishing in jail for, going on two years.

In response to Ottawas intention to appeal Tuesdays court ruling, she said, It is a lawless government acting in a lawless way, again sparking applause and whistles from the crowd.
