Moscow Exchange might launch cryptocurrency trading – TASS

ST. PETERSBURG, June 2. /TASS/. The Moscow Exchange is considering the possibility of launching trading in cryptocurrencies, the Moscow Exchange CEO Alexander Afanasiev told reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF 2017).

"We have been focusing our attention on this issue. However, the most important thing for is complete legality of the instrument, we can only experiment in the legal field. This question is now in a somewhat suspended state," he said.

Earlier, First Deputy Governor of the Russian Central Bank Sergey Shvetsov said that one of the Russian stock exchanges is considering the possibility of launching trading in cryptocurrencies.

Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Olga Skorobogatova said that the regulator will develop a national cryptocurrency. "Regulators of all countries agree that its time to develop national cryptocurrencies, this is the future. Every country will decide on specific time frames. After our pilot projects we will understand what system we could use in our case for our national currency," Skorobogatova said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF-2017).

According to Skorobogatova, it would be a virtual analogue of the ruble. "The national currency can exist in electronic form, not just in paper as we now have it in our wallet. This is one of the elements of growth of non-cash turnover in the country," she said.

In addition, the Central Bank proposes to introduce the Russian cryptocurrency to protect all types of transactions, if the digital currency will be used for it, Skorobogatova said.

The Central Bank's pilot projects will be implemented jointly with the financial market participants and the Fintech association, the first developments will appear in 2-3 years, Skorobogatova said. Digital currency will be created on the basis of technology of distributed ledgers.

Earlier, Head of Sberbank Herman Gref said he was in favor of legalizing cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin is the worlds most famous cryptocurrency and a digital payment system invented by an unknown programmer, or a group of programmers, under the name Satoshi Nakamoto. It was released as open-source software in 2009 and since then has been steadily gaining popularity among Internet users. However, recently its situation began to deteriorate due to legislative restrictions imposed in several countries.

Bitcoin is not regulated by any country or banking supervisory authority. It can guarantee complete anonymity of a person or a group of people using it.

Before cloud computing, if you wanted some computational power, you had three choices:

Each of these models has pros and cons. If you bought the equipment, you typically owned it through the full depreciation cycle of three to five years. That might have been the cheapest option, but it was the least flexible. You gained some long-term flexibility when you leased the equipment, but you paid more in trade and you still had all the operations costs. Typically, you wouldnt lease equipment for less than a 3 month time horizon, and probably at least a year, otherwise the overhead cost of receiving, configuring, and then returning the equipment would be too high. Finally, if you rented the server, you could get something with granular, monthly terms, but you were far more limited in the hardware choices and you couldnt deploy it in your own data center. The upside was you might be able to have it up and running in as few as 24 hours from the time you placed the order.

These models form a continuum: on one side we have the buy-and-own-everything model; on the other side we have the own-nothing model. In the middle, we have a wide variety of models where some things are owned and others not.

In the simplest sense, cloud computing is merely a refinement of the own-nothing model, with shorter timescales for resource rental, and greater flexibility for the customer as a result. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has created what has become the canonical definition of cloud computing, publication 800-145, titled The NIST Definition of CloudComputing.

NIST defines cloud computing as having five essential characteristics:

The characteristics apply equally well to a low-level infrastructure cloud as to a high level application cloud. Thus, you could construct an interesting hybrid cloud environment from a combination of a private IaaS cloud based on VMware, a public IaaS cloud based on Amazon EC2, and a public PaaS cloud based on Google AppEngine.

Most larger enterprises will create a hybrid cloud environment of some sort, with multiple public and private clouds, and possibly a community cloud thrown into the mix. Some clouds will provide enhanced security; others will provide enhanced performance; still others will offer optimized pricing. Enterprises will then deploy application workloads within a suitable cloud to create an optimized outcome. Management software will help match application workloads to the right clouds given optimization goals and risk and compliance restrictions.

CIOs and factors overlooked when changing your cloud – Cloud Tech

The topic of cloud computing currently ranks in the top-five of IT articles published for IT professionals. Daily we hear about the benefits of this new world, the range of exciting new services now available, and of course how to make the transition.

Even with the valuable insights provided by these articles, there is one critical aspect given too little attention or even overlooked entirely. Specifically, how to plan for a breakup.

If one accepts the old dictum that change is the only universal constant, then ask yourself why most people do not plan as carefully for unwinding a cloud / SaaS arrangement as we do in setting one up. The details of ending an arrangement can be tricky and not immediately self-evident.

These issues are beyond standard legal provisions for exit clauses, terms/conditions, and related matters. It deals with practicality and preparedness.

Take this as an example, imagine you use a SaaS system to implement secure e-mail for corresponding with people outside your organization. Even in the world of TLS, many still have a need for such services which provide mailbox-to-mailbox encryption for both e-mails and attachments.

Should you decide to terminate this service, you might be in for some unexpected challenges. If your service provider does not provide bulk decrypt and export tools, you could be in for a painful process.

In a previous role, I ran into this exact situation. We had to write custom scripts to go through each mailbox e-mail-by-email to unencrypt and export; it was slow and costly.

Even without terminating the service, data exporting tools can be useful as a course of normal business. Consider the situation when your organization is involved in litigation. As part of the legal Discovery process, you might have to produce e-mails for individuals covering specific subjects and dates. Should the list be significant or the filters complex, you can again run into unexpected workloads.

Another example is data offloading. Many services, AWS included, offer excellent tools for migration / uploading large volumes into their cloud services. In some cases, particularly with large datasets, such approaches are the only feasible or timely solution.

But what happens when you elect to move those datasets to another cloud provider? Dont assume the comprehensive set of options you have for bringing data into your providers cloud is symmetric. You might just find a long slow process to make a change.

In both examples, specific industry or regulatory requirements such as security, data location, and privacy can compound the challenge.

IT professionals have a lot of experience with managing proprietary solutions and data. The key is leveraging that knowledge when considering cloud-based solutions. Personally, I have found two methods for reducing these risks.

The first is to run some tabletop simulations on what happens in various scenarios, to develop and expand your punch list over time. Scenarios to consider might include migration, legal requests, disaster recovery or other matters specific to your industry.

My second approach is to network: it is a knowledge and experience multiplier thats second to none. Check with colleagues; get their advice and listen to their own experiences.

Of course, you dont know what you dont know, but thinking of the end, as well as the beginning, should put you in a better spot.
