Artificial Intelligence Suffers from The Biases of their Human Creators, that Causes Problems Searching for ET – Science Times

One structure on the dwarf planet Ceres made big news but there is a hitch. It seems that the square-shaped form inside a larger triangle, located in a crater. Everyone else saw it, but the use of artificial intelligence might be a square peg not fitting a round hole. This remark by a Spanish neuropsychologist is questioning the veracity of depending on AI, which might be unsound by SETI.

Ceres is located in the main asteroid belt, a dwarf planet, and the biggest object too. One of its craters, Occator had bright lights which lead to several ideas of what it was. Nasa sent the Dawn probe to go close enough to capture visual evidence of what these lights were and solve the mystery. These lights were from volcanic ice and salt eruptions, nothing more.

It gets more interesting as researchers based in the University of Cadiz (Spain) have examined images of these spots. Areas like them are called Vinalia Faculae, in an area where geometric contours are very evident for observers. It now serves as a template to compare how machines and humans perceive images on planetary surfaces in general. Tests like these will show artificial intelligence can see technosignatures of other lifeforms besides human-civilization.

During the test, more than one individual saw the squarish shape in Vinalia Faculae, and it was a perfect chance to test artificial intelligence on a human. Subjecting a human subject with what AI sees, is a comparison to see the result. In searching for ETs, radio signals aren't the only consideration but also captured images not like before.

To see further what their hypothesis would bring about. These neuropsychologists made more modifications from the previous experiments to dig deeper by adding another layer to it. Another batch of volunteers was conscripted, but this time were amateurs in astronomy to analyze what they see in the Occator image.

By comparison to the artificial vision system that is grounded on the convolutional neural networks (CNN), an AI taught to see squares and triangles to identify them. From this point on, the experiments got interesting as it progressed.

Researchers ran the experiment and this what the people saw, some peculiarities were observed, as the images were perceived.

a. AI and people saw the square structures and did not miss it.

b. Another thing is the AI did not fail to notice the triangle as well.

c. Whenever the triangle was pointed out to people, more mentioned seeing it.

d. Visually the square was inside the triangle as it was visually represented too.

This is what the neuropsychologists drew from the results of the experiment on the "amateurs". It was published in the "Acta Astronautica journal" for reference.

a. The application of artificial intelligence for use in finding ETs is not as foolproof. Just like human intelligence the AI can be mistaken, confused and make false perception as well.

b. AI can be applied for some tasks to find technosignatures and ETs in some exceptions. Overall, AI will not be implemented but with caution, especially in SETI.

c. The presence of biases in the programming of AI is that of their creators, which is unavoidable. The best move is to study artificial intelligence, when under human stewardship.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in battling the coronavirus – ELE Times

Artificial Intelligence technology can today automatically mine through news reports and online content from around the world, helping experts recognize anomalies that could lead to a potential epidemic or, worse, a pandemic. In other words, our new AI overlords might actually help us survive the next plague. These new AI capabilities are on full display with the recent coronavirus outbreak, which was identified early by a Canadian firm called BlueDot, which is one of a number of companies that use data to evaluate public health risks.

The company, which says it conducts automated infectious disease surveillance, notified its customers about the new form of coronavirus at the end of December, days before both the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) sent out official notices, as reported by Wired. Now nearing the end of January, the respiratory virus thats been linked to the city of Wuhan in China has already claimed the lives of more than 100 people. Cases have also popped up in several other countries, including the United States, and the CDC is warning Americans to avoid non-essential travel to China.

But artificial intelligence can be far more useful than just keeping epidemiologists and officials informed as a disease pops up. Researchers have built AI-based models that can predict outbreaks of the Zika virus in real time, which can inform how doctors respond to potential crises. Artificial intelligence could also be used to guide how public health officials distribute resources during a crisis. In effect, AI stands to be a new first line of defense against disease.

Other data, like traveler itinerary information and flight paths, can help give the company additional hints about how a disease will likely spread. For instance, earlier this month, BlueDot researchers predicted other cities in Asia where the coronavirus would show up after it appeared in mainland China.

The idea behind BlueDots model to get information to health care workers as quickly as possible, with the hope that they can diagnose and, if needed, isolate infected and potentially contagious people early on.

More broadly, AI is already assisting with researching new drugs, tackling rare diseases, and detecting breast cancer. AI was even used to identify insects that spread Chagas, an incurable and potentially deadly disease that has infected an estimated 8 million people in Mexico and Central and South America. Theres also increasing interest in using non-health data like social media posts to help health policymakers and drug companies understand the breadth of a health crisis. For instance, AI that can mine social media posts to track illegal opioid sales, and keep public health officials informed about these controlled substances spread.

Still, all of these advancements represent a more optimistic outlook for what AI can do. Typically, news of AI robots sifting through large swathes of data doesnt sit so well. Think of law enforcement using facial recognition databases built on images mined from across the web. Or hiring managers who can now use AI to predict how youll behave at work, based on your social media posts. The idea of AI battling deadly disease offers a case where we might feel slightly less uneasy, if not altogether hopeful. Perhaps this technology if developed and used properly could actually help save some lives.

Similarly, the epidemic-monitoring company Metabiota determined that Thailand, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan had the highest risk of seeing the virus show up more than a week before cases in those countries were actually reported, partially by looking to flight data. Metabiota, like BlueDot, uses natural-language processing to evaluate online reports about a potential disease, and its also working on developing the same technology for social media data.

Automation and AI sound similar, but may have vastly different impacts on the future of work – Brookings Institution

Last November, Brookings published a report on artificial intelligences impact on the workplace that immediately raised eyebrows. Many readers, journalists, and even experts were perplexed by the reports primary finding: that, for the most part, it is better-paid, better-educated white-collar workers who are most exposed to AIs potential economic disruption.

This conclusionby authors Mark Muro, Robert Maxim, and Jacob Whitonseemed to fly in the face of the popular understanding of technologys future effects on workers. For years, weve been hearing about how these advancements will force mainly blue-collar, lower-income workers out of jobs, as robotics and technology slowly consume those industries.

In an article about the November report, The Mercury News outlined this discrepancy: The study released Wednesday by the Brookings Institution seems to contradict findings from previous studiesincluding Brookings ownthat showed lower-skilled workers will be most affected by robots and automation, which can involve AI.

One of the previous studies that article refers to is likely Brookingss January 2019 report (also written by Muro, Maxim, and Whiton) titled Automation and Artificial Intelligence: How machines are affecting people and places. And indeed, in apparent contradiction of the AI report, the earlier study states, The impacts of automation in the coming decades will be variable across occupations, and will be visible especially among lower-wage, lower-education roles in occupations characterized by rote work.

So how do we square these two seemingly disparate conclusions? The key is in distinguishing artificial intelligence and automation, two similar-sounding concepts that nonetheless will have very different impacts on the future of work here in the U.S. and across the globe. Highlighting these distinctions is critical to understanding what types of workers are most vulnerable, and what we can do to help them.

The difference in how we define automation versus AI is important in how we judge their potential effects on the workplace.

Automation is a broad category describing an entire class of technologies rather than just one, hence much of the confusion surrounding its relationship to AI. Artificial intelligence can be a form of automation, as can robotics and softwarethree fields that the automation report focused on. Examples of the latter two forms could be machines that scurry across factory floors delivering parts and packages, or programs that automate administrative duties like accounting or payroll.

Automation substitutes human labor in tasks both physical and cognitiveespecially those that are predictable and routine. Think machine operators, food preparers, clerks, or delivery drivers. Activities that seem relatively secure, by contrast, include: the management and development of people; applying expertise to decisionmaking, planning and creative tasks; interfacing with people; and the performance of physical activities and operating machinery in unpredictable physical environments, the automation report specified.

In the more recent AI-specific report, the authors focused of the subset of AI known as machine learning, or using algorithms to find patterns in large quantities of data. Here, the technologys relevance to the workplace is less about tasks and more about intelligence. Instead of the routine, AI theoretically substitutes for more interpersonal duties such as human planning, problem-solving, or perception.

And what are some of the topline occupations exposed to AIs effects, according to Brookings research? Market research analysts and marketing specialists (planning and creative tasks, interfacing with people), sales managers (the management and development of people), and personal financial advisors (applying expertise to decisionmaking). The parallels between what automation likely wont affect and what AI likely will affect line up almost perfectly.

Machine learning is especially useful for prediction-based roles. Prediction under conditions of uncertaintyis a widespread and challenging aspect of many information-sector jobs in health, business, management, marketing, and education, wrote Muro, Maxim, and Whiton in a recent follow-up to their AI report. These predictive, mostly white-collar occupations seem especially poised for disruption by AI.

Some news outlets grasped this difference between the AI and the automation report. In The New York Timess Bits newsletter, Jamie Condliffe wrote: Previously, similar studies lumped together robotics and A.I. But when they are picked apart, it makes sense that A.I.which is about planning, perceiving and so onwould hit white-collar roles.

A very clear way to distinguish the impacts of the two concepts is to observe where Brookings Metro research anticipates those impacts will be greatest. The metros areas where automations potential is highest include blue-collar or service-sector-centric places such as Toledo, Ohio, Greensboro, N.C., Lakeland-Winter Haven, Fla. and Las Vegas.

The top AI-exposed metro area, by contrast, is the tech hub of San Jose, Calif., followed by other large cities such as Seattle and Salt Lake City. Places less exposed to AI, the report says, range from bigger, service-oriented metro areas such as El Paso, Texas, Las Vegas, and Daytona Beach, Fla., to smaller, leisure communities including Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Ocean City, N.J.

AI will also likely have different impacts on different demographics than other forms of automation. In their report on the broader automation field, Muro, Maxim, and Whiton found that 47% of Latino or Hispanic workers are in jobs that couldin part or whollybe automated. American Indians had the next highest automation potential, at 45%, followed by Black workers (44%), white workers (40%), and Asian Americans (39%). Reverse that order, and youll come very close to the authors conclusion on AIs impact on worker demographics: Asian Americans have the highest potential exposure to AI disruption, followed by white, Latino or Hispanic, and Black workers.

For all of these differences, one important similarity does exist for both AI and broader automations impact on the workforce: uncertainty. Artificial intelligences real-world potential is clouded in ambiguity, and indeed, the AI report used the text of AI-based patents to attempt to foresee its usage in the workplace. The authors hypothesize that, far from taking over human work, AI may end up complementing labor in fields like medicine or law, possibly even creating new work and jobs as demand increases.

As new forms of automation emerge, it too could end up having any number of potential long-term impactsincluding, paradoxically, increasing demand and creating jobs. Machine substitution for labor improves productivity and quality and reduces the cost of goods and services, the authors write. This maythough not always, and not foreverhave the impact of increasing employment in these same sectors.

As policymakers draw up potential solutions to protect workers from technological disruption, its important to keep in mind the differences between advancements like AI and automation at largeand who, exactly, theyre poised to affect.

Front Cover of a Book Entirely Created by Artificial Intelligence – insideBIGDATA

The newly released book The A.I. Age represents a historic moment and newlandmark in the story of AI with its February 2020 publication. The front cover of the book has been entirely created by Artificial Intelligence (AI) by selecting the winning cover design and overlaying the text.

AI machines cant be creative? Yes they can. A specific type of machine learning called Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), can create art. Author Adam Riccoboni, CEO of Critical Future, a leading AI firm, used this cutting-edge AI to create his book covers design while writing The AI Age.

The process involved feeding 200,000 book covers into the deep learning system. On a high performance computer, the algorithm was trained in just one week, what it has taken human beings millennia to discover; how to create a winning book cover. Ali El Hassouni, a Critical Future AI developer, and a Ph.D. level expert in GANs, developed this deep learning. The remarkable, unique process is shown in this video:

The central premise of the book is that the world is at an inflection point. We are on the precipice of change. A technological revolution is about to occur. As author Adam Riccoboni puts it: Artificial Intelligence is the most important technological revolution of our time. Google CEO Sundar Pichai believes, AI will be more important than electricity or fire. Stephen Hawking argued, It could be the biggest event in the history of our civilization. Whatever you think of AI, all our lives and all our careers will be transformed by AI over the next decade.

Imagine if in the 1990s, you knew the internet was going to change the world. What would we do? Invent Facebook, or Amazon? Become a VC, study digital marketing? Give up your job at Blockbuster video and invest in Netflix?

We will be at this point again in the 2020s. The tech this time is not the internet. It is something more profound Artificial Intelligence. A technology that is more ubiquitous than anything that has come before. AI will be developed into all the nooks and crannies of our lives, to create an enchanted world.

In the future, AI has the potential to reach human level intelligence, and then run away redesigning itself to become a super-intelligence. A god by another name. This fascinating prospect has the worlds most famous scientists and atheists, talking about the potential of technological god, coming in our lifetime.

Are you likewise the one, considering making yourself something new a thankful when it jumps on your piece of pondering seeking after your energy in 2020.

On the off chance that this is so you, at that point we are certain while you are setting aside a few minutes for your own vocation and the innovation information move, you would be taking an interest in, ensure you find a good pace things in the correct manner and in this way, you will be taking assistance of the things to assist you with getting your profession propelled in the correct way.

With such a significant number of blasting profession choices in the innovation part, it is so astounding to take note of that things would be acceptable on the off chance that one considers ensuring, the means taken in the correct point of view are constantly more prominent and much better to consider.

All things considered, the most buzz making things of 2020 in the innovation area are Artificial Intelligence or the extremely popular AI, Machine learning and the information science advancements.

Yet, the most occurring of these three, the AI has been certainly taken into such huge numbers of possibilities while choosing to manufacture a cell phone and continue improving the different sorts of changes they could make in the different stuffs identified with AI and in this way they can think about the things to assist them with making the innovation, considerably additionally conciliating and savvier for the individuals around!

Things being what they are, what do you think when the word AI begins ringing?

Well for a large number of the shaft, when they contemplate AI, in the event that they are basic man, they can just include in their answers the correct sort of camera mode or the manner in which the machine respond and react to the human act or any sort of human need!

In any case, when one goes to the real state of what is Ai, it would be unquestionably right thing to make reference to that AI is tied in with making the machines so brilliant, they really pre-gain proficiency with the carry on of people in specific conditions and react as indicated by that.

How AI could be gainful to the individuals around?

Well with regards to the normal, man, the entirety of the advances are made useful for them to appreciate and carry on with a recreation life. This aides in ensuring that individuals would get it extremely simple way with regards to ensuring things would find a good pace of made basically simple and on the more prominent note of making things sifted through!

Indeed, with regards to the point of making a profession, it is appropriately said and done that one could take up the accompanying things when individuals would consider making a vocation in the innovation world, utilizing the open doors that comes roped in the conceivable outcomes of man-made brainpower courses.

Few are referenced beneath:

What are the benefits of Artificial Intelligence?

1) Time saving

Man-made reasoning helps manage tedious and overwhelming undertakings, for example, credit scoring, performing historical verifications, breaking down documentation and drafting ends, and so on.

High-preparing PC power, supported with productive calculations permit organizations to essentially improve their procedures. For instance, JP Morgans Contract Intelligence framework (COIN) can essentially abbreviate the time expected to decipher business credit understandings.

The bank uncovers that the 12 000 agreements that are being prepared on a yearly premise are presently broke down in only seconds, rather than the 360 000 hours that workers recently required so as to satisfy such errand.

The opportunity to dispose of such commonplace assignments from human remaining task at hand timetable helps increment efficiency and saves time for taking care of progressively complex errands.

2) Helps to improve forms

One of the most overwhelming procedures inside money related organizations is misrepresentation identification. Man-made reasoning enhances such tedious and complex undertakings by utilizing propelled systems, for example, design acknowledgment.

That way, oversight specialists and loan specialists can without much of a stretch recognize fakes and illegal tax avoidance.

Because of the high productivity of the utilized calculations, the few components (source/goal of the installment, client name, business element subtleties, history and so forth.) that ought to be taken as a top priority for fake exercises to be recognized, are handled in a snappy and upgraded way.

3) Reduces blunders

As humans outstanding burden expands, the effectiveness and precision of the performed undertakings diminishes, hence making the persons work progressively inclined to blunders. With machines, there is no such hazard as everything works precisely as modified.

This is a significant preferred position for high-exactness works in segments, for example, space investigation, where there are no edges for blunder.

4) A less expensive arrangement in the long haul

The mechanization of procedures inside foundations decreases costs and improve activities. By designating low-level errands to PCs, organizations can decrease their staff and cut their compensation bill.

Man-made brainpower adds to the money related soundness of the organization in the respect that the main venture that is required is the underlying one for the improvement and the combination of the framework. Then again, if similar undertakings were performed by people, the costs will be progressing every month.

5) Contributes to worldwide development

Figures from Stanford Universitys Annual Artificial Intelligence Index Report feature the exceptional ongoing blast in the AI specialty with 14x progressively dynamic US new companies concentrated on AI improvement since 2000.

Aside from that, the investigation calls attention to that today there are 6x progressively yearly VC speculations into U.S. Man-made reasoning new businesses since 2000, just as 4.5x more employments requiring Artificial insight aptitudes, when contrasted with the most recent 5 years.

What are the disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence?

1) Lack of job roles

The significant disadvantage of man-made reasoning is related with work misfortunes. Specialists propose as a main contention that PCs will gradually, however without a doubt overwhelm people in numerous parts.

Also, in all actuality this has just begun to occur with PCs turning out to be ever-present in production lines, monetary organizations, papers, shops, and so forth.

In spite of the fact that for the time being, A.I. is capable for the most part for essential, clear assignments, for example, running sequential construction systems, arranging and breaking down information, and so forth., sooner rather than later it is relied upon to deal with far progressively natural and urgent procedures.

Indeed, PCs are as of now equipped for composing articles and preparing installments in self-administration shops which implies that when more positions are lost because of the advancement in AI may not be so inaccessible.

2) Risk of sweeping off the humankind

Such a situation has motivated bunches of Hollywood preparations. In spite of the fact that it is very overstated to accept that PCs will turn into our foes, it is increasingly sensible to dread of circumstances where we cant clarify the purposes for the choices machines are making.

For instance, a couple of months back, the CEO of a $97 billion man-made brainpower multifaceted investments, uncovered that even the designers of their appropriateness framework couldnt comprehend and clarify its exchanging choices, despite the fact that they lead to colossal benefits.

On the off chance that such situations mean different ventures, the outcomes might be dreadfully eccentric.

3) Lack of suitable judgment abilities

What separates PCs and people (and will keep on doing as such sooner rather than later) is AIs absence of judgment aptitudes. PCs cant contextualize data and take sensible activities as per a particular circumstance.

They are modified to settle on decisions upon pre-customized rules and situations. In any case, in reality, a few circumstances require for the data and the conditions to be removed from the specific situation and be investigated in a progressively untraditional manner.

This, for the time being, stays a difficult to-increase quality.

4) Same repetitive mode!

Truly we are yet to uncover how our cerebrum takes a shot at training. In any case, the one thing that we are sure of is the way that innovativeness is regular just for people.

PCs, then again, cant act in an inventive and startling approach to comprehend a specific issue. What they will do is follow normal advances and a pre-characterized philosophy, which in phenomenal circumstances, will turn out insufficient.

Despite the fact that PCs can learn by improving time, their capacity to respond in strange circumstances wont get fundamentally improved. Innovativeness remains and will keep on outstanding the primary concern that separates people from machines.

5) AI stays restricted to the nature of the information it is nourished with

The effectiveness of the AI calculations behind AI-put together arrangements is intensely trustworthy with respect to the nature of data that they are bolstered with.

Much the same as the case with money related information, in numerous ventures, the information can in some cases be insufficient, one-sided or fragmented. This frequently influences contrarily the finishes of AI-based arrangements. In spite of the fact that this isnt an issue brought about by AI knowledge legitimately, it despite everything limits its proficiency.

Conclusion

None of the technological change is easy to be digested with people. But there are loads of changes that come along and are not at all easy to get rid of or get adjusted in an easy way.

When one thinks of having the right kind of artificial intelligence certification, it is definitely not about making sure that things are going in the right manner from the start itself, but it is a lot about making the right kind of option, when it comes to the part of attaining an artificial Intelligence training.

Expected Artificial Intelligence advancements with Union Budget 2020 – ELE Times

The Union Budget 2020 will be reported by the Central Government on 1 February 2020. While a few expectations are being communicated by industry pioneers, experts as well as students, what the government really thinks about must be resolved one week from now when the budget is given. In the meanwhile, business expectations on the Union Budget 2020 keep on pouring in.

The Union Budget 2019 of India had claimed Artificial Intelligence to be high on the agenda in the digital segment of the Budget. This declaration was huge given that China has been consistently building an ecosystem to fuel its aspiration to turn into a world leader in AI by 2030.

As indicated by most industry leaders, what India needs is a move and allocation of assets to fill this critical gap and set the groundwork across different businesses. Along these lines, this time the business is expecting that the finance minister will announce satisfactory assets on reskilling, education, ed-tech to enable the youthful population to have occupations that will be made with tech disruption and move away from ones which may soon become out of date.

The government can report AI grand challenges that are available to teams from the scholarly world and industry that include takes care of a significant issue for India. The governments job right now is to give a crisp problem definition, give access to the data and obviously give a decent cash prize. Such AI grand challenges will bring about significant issues getting tackled, new companies and occupations, and catch the countrys creative mind and be a driving force to the field of AI.

An up skilling fund is the need of the hour today to fight the skills gap made in India by emerging technologies, for example, AI/machine learning. Each business should be ordered to give a learning budget to help their employees consistently up skill and this consumption ought to be repaid to the business through the up skilling fund dispensed as a tax rebate. A corporate commitment towards upskilling boosted by the government will guarantee that HR in the nation are skilled in developing innovations/hot skill areas while energising the workforce and killing all feelings of trepidation for the future.

For India to have a $5 trillion economy, the young have a key role to carry out in empowering this objective. The advantage of the youth dividend should be channelized and empowered to make the nation famous. Quality education is significant, particularly in the rising fields, for example, artificial intelligence, big data, virtual reality and machine learning separated from the management and services in established segments.

Yiiddeshe Application for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence – Yeshiva World News

If I recall correctly, the Shulchan Aruch says that a person a person who is sleepin, and even a deaf person are also counted in a minyan, despite the fact that they cannot answer umein after the chazan. But the SA also says that if there are not nine people who have kavanah during the chazans recitation of the barachos, those barachos are close to being said in vain.

Most meforshim conclude that there is no contradiction (aka the barachos from a minyan sleeping a schnoozer is accepted by the Ebeshter but the barachos from a minyan w/o kavanah may not be yotzeh) because the Shulchan Aruch doesnt explicitly say not accepted but instead uses the terminology are close to being, rejected. They bring down from this that in actuality the chazans barachos are not said in vain for minyanim with snoozers and schmoozers. There are disagreements as to how many people that do not actually answer umein can be counted for a minyan with the kulah being up to four schmoozers (aka no kavanah) and one snoozer (aka sleeping) and the chumrah being there always have to be nine daveners with kavanah answering umein during chazaras hashatz.

Artificial Intelligence Wades Through Murky MRO Inventory Data To Drive Down Costs with Better Business Decisions – AiThority

Webinar from Verusen and Accenture Details How AI and Predictive Analytics Clarify Data Across Multiple Systems to Right-Size Plant Inventories

The ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve visibility of ERP inventory data, as well as the implementation timeline for using AI on a daily basis, were among the top interests of participants during a recent webinar, Taking Stock of AI Technology for Inventory Management.

The webinar featured expert advicefrom CEO Paul Noble of Verusen, an innovator in materials inventory and data management technology, and Erik Green, practice lead, Materials & Equipment, at Accenture,a leading global professional services company.

Reducing MRO inventory is one way for asset-intensive manufacturing industries to quickly drive value, but siloed data in ERP and other systems result in redundant partsand understockingthat infrequent manual cleansing cant address to support dynamic business decisions, said Noble. Its important for organizations to know that AI is a very real option today that can wade through data from multiple systems to present real-time suggestions for in-house teamsand then learn from those decisions.

These were the top three areas of interest in regard to deploying AI technology within the supply chain that were expressed by webinar participants, representing a variety of different industry segments:

Organizations today want to give customers an Amazon-like experience while driving out costs, and while Accenture surveys show 90 percent of leaders believe innovation significantly contributes to high performance, only 20 percent feel they can get there with current innovation engines, said Green.
