Cryptocurrency exchange CoinDCX invests $1.3M in education initiative ‘TryCrypto’ – YourStory

Mumbai-based CoinDCX, a cryptocurrency trading platform and liquidity aggregator, has invested $1.3 million in TryCrypto, its own initiative, which is working to make blockchain and cryptocurrency more accessible to mainstream users.

The funds will be used towards educational initiatives, seminars, online courses, roadshows and awareness campaigning, meetups, community events, community engagement, and to product trials.

Founders Neeraj & Sumit

As part of the initiative, CoinDCX will roll out DCXlearn, a full-fledged crypto learning program, on TryCrypto.

Sumit Gupta, CEO and Co-founder, CoinDCX, says,

According to CoinDCX, its education-led approach is geared towards giving first-time crypto users a sufficient knowledge base to help them navigate the cryptocurrency market safely and securely.

DCXlearn will consist of an online learning program along with massive open online courses (MOOCs). The cryptocurrency exchange is already in conversation with a number of top Indian universities to promote crypto education and the TryCrypto initiative within campuses.

In addition to DCXlearn, CoinDCX will also organise meetup events, educational seminars, and consumer campaigns to encourage large-scale cryptocurrency adoption and awareness targeting Indias 50 largest cities in the first iteration of the TryCrypto campaign.

To ensure the success of the TryCrypto initiative, CoinDCX said it will be working with industry partners, including Inblox Network, Amesten Assets, and Cashaa, to promote greater awareness and understanding of digital assets among mainstream audience. It added that leading Indian online media outlets and cryptocurrency news providers such as Cryptokanoon and CoinCrunch have also dedicated themselves to support the TryCrypto initiative.

CoinDCXs investment in TryCrypto follows the landmark ruling by the Supreme Court of India on March 6, which struck down the Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) ban on financial institutions providing banking services to cryptocurrency businesses, as well as the announcement that CoinDCX became the first cryptocurrency platform in India to integrate bank account transfers just six hours after the Supreme Court decision was made public.

With one of the youngest populations in the world, India requires solutions which are modern and novel for millennials who are looking for better instruments to manage their finances. Crypto is fast becoming a preferred choice for these young, technologically savvy consumers. However, an initiative like CoinDCX's TryCrypto campaign has the potential to bring the benefits of cryptocurrencies to a larger audience than ever before, said Kashif Raza, Co-founder of CryptoKanoon.

Rise in trading volume a positive sign for cryptocurrency – BTC Wires

It is very important to understand all the metrics that are involved in evaluating the investment potential of a particular cryptocurrency. There are various basic and important terms that are related with everyday trading of various cryptocurrencies, the terms being volume , market cap and supply.

Today we are going to emphasise more on the volume, that is trading volume, because trading volume can make or break your trades. It is very important to know when to pass on an investment that doesnt seem to be of good use in future.

Trading volume

Trading volume is the amount of activity that is surrounding a coin or a token. The volume will allow you to see how popular an asset is and how frequently it is being shuffled among its users. The ledger that is generated by the buying and selling activity surrounding each coin or token, can be very useful for planning your trades.

Investors should keep in mind that this is only the publicly traded volume and it is possible that large sums of cryptocurrency are being traded privately through OTC markets, and what is shown is not the entire market.

The volume of a token that is listed on CoinMarketCap is quite simple to understand. It is the amount of the coin that has been traded in the last 24 hours. For example, roughly $3.5 billion worth of Bitcoin has changed hands in the last day. You can break this down in various ways; you could also list it as 3,039,787,668 Euros. Or, in crypto terms, 642,566 Bitcoins.

You can also slice and dice it by exchange. In the last 24 hours,

XBOND.IO a full-featured spot trading platform for major digital assets & cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, EOS, Litecoin, Ripple, NEO, Monero and many more, experienced a surge in Trading Volumes within the exchange.

XBOND offers a variety of trading platforms from Web Based, Mobile to Desktop Platform, XBOND will also launch its P2P Platform XBONDP2P.COM in March 2020 to facilitate P2P transactions in the market which is presently turbo charged with enthusiasm and also with the lifting of curbs on the cryptocurrency trading in India, this news has sent a positive wave of emotions in the global trading community as well.

Essentially, volume underscores how many people are buying and selling the coin. If the price of Bitcoin goes up and it shows a hefty volume, that tells us lots of people are making moves. Thus, it will likely keep going up. If the price of Bitcoin drops, but theres minimal volume, that could tell us only a small amount of people back the trend. Lets go into more detail on the ramifications.

Arguably trading volume is the most important metric because of the sole reason it can be broken down into various ways. From volume, you can infer the direction and movements of a coin. Its an essential metric for traders. Volume can be examined in minute detail. You can track volume on CoinMarketCap by the last 24 hours, last week, or last 30 days. This helps reveal if a coins recent swings are an aberration or the norm. A coin with frequent heavy movements wont attract attention if it has high volume. If a coin normally has less volume, heavy trading in the last 24 hours could indicate theres some support behind the move it may be making.

Despite cryptocurrencies having fallen off their record highs, the sector is expected to experience double-digit growth in trading volumes next year suggesting that trader enthusiasm in the nascent asset class has not waned, crypto trading volume will grow

words from Anurag Singh, CEO of Xbond.io

You can also examine which exchanges had what volume. This matters because exchanges frequently have different prices. As well, many exchanges are geographically-focused. Kraken, for instance, is largely a European exchange. OKCoin functioned in China until the Peoples Bank of China cracked down recently. Volume by exchange can reveal where the buyers or sellers of a coin are. CoinMarketCap does not, however, reflect exchanges with no fees. Exchanges that dont charge a fee allow traders and bots to send coins back and forth for free, imitating a high volume.

When you closely observe the trends that are generated over a period of time considering all the metrics such as volume and other. It can be clearly observed that the coins with the biggest popularity are traded the most. When you go on CoinMarketCap and observe the data generated what youre going to see is crucial informatin; for example just by studying the snippet below (which is from coinmarketcap) what can be observed in this trend is whenever the prices of Bitcoin surges the price of ethereum goes down and vica versa. Like everything, trading also has its own pattern and after observing them closely and by taking in mind all the metrics, viable information can be derived that would help one in making profits a nd predicting future trends.

With the constant increase in the trade volume of cryptocurrencies. It is very much evident that people are getting more and more involved in the transactions regarding these cryptocurrencies, which is obviously a very good indicator because the more the hands are exchanged with these cryptocurrencies, more is the volume of total transaction going to increase. Which would clearly indicate that more and more people are getting involved.

Elon Musk and Daniel Craig Featured in Cryptocurrency Scam Promising Massive Returns – The Daily Hodl

YouTube is reportedly taking action against a cryptocurrency advertising scam featuring fake endorsements from Elon Musk and Daniel Craig.

The false advertisements were discovered by Business Insider and promised huge returns to investors who bought Bitcoin Era an automated trading app that claims to be backed by high-profile entrepreneurs including Richard Branson, Elon Musk and Bill Gates.

The advertisement purports to be from Blitz News promoting an article called Bond franchise comes to an end. However, when users click the ad, they are redirected to a post with the headline SPECIAL REPORT: Brits are listening to 007s Daniel Craig and theyre raking in millions from home.

The article says readers can take advantage of a wealth loophole that can turn anyone into a millionaire in three to four months.

Crypto scammers have a rich history of targeting celebrities. Since 2017, schemers have created phony accounts designed to look like Elon Musks official profile in an attempt to trick users into giving away their digital assets. Last year, schemers promoted a similar wealth loophole featuring Elon Musk, Kate Winslet, Richard Branson and Bill Gates.

As for this new advertising scam, YouTube has declined to comment. However, a source at the company says the ad has been removed. So far, theres no comment from Musk or Craig.

Mind Against return on Afterlife with Walking Away and Bloom – The Groove Cartel

Italian duo, Mind Against, returns on Tale Of Us Afterlife with the 2-track EP Walking Away.

After a successful edition of Afterlife in Dubai, debut event in the UAE for the label, Tale Of Us imprint presented yesterday its 35th installment. Produced by the Italian duo Mind Against, Walking Away and Bloom mark the return on the label After the success of Days Gone in 2018.

Kicking off with Walking Away, a long-time played ID that has made dance people all around the world, the tune features elements of deep and progressive house, blending together minimal and techno-oriented beats and creating a unique sound hanged into a limbo between lo-fi and underground music. The hypnotic vocal of Port St. Willow does the rest of the job bringing the listener into a new dimension inside his soul. Centered around uplifting harmonic elements and a resonant drum pattern, Walking Away strikes that special balance of light and dark that were used from Mind Against.

On the B-side, Bloom hits the darkest string of our emotions, delivering a minimal, deep and mysterious feeling, increased by the soft touch of the main piano melody. A melancholy and downtempo interpretation of Mind Against vision with the percussion restraining and sitting deep below atmospheric pads and piano chords, eventually arriving at a gradual and subtle peak.

Mind Against reach euphoric heights once again, though this time by a patient and reflective path but yet delivering two songs that will hardly go unnoticed.

You can download both records here or buy your physical vinyl copy as well.

Gardening: Five things to keep in mind with ground cover plants – Bournemouth Echo

Hannah Stephenson looks at ground cover plants that'll help suppress weeds and add colour and form to borders.

As spring begins, it may be a good time to think about how to reduce the weeding you have to do in future years - and good ground cover is essential if you want to lessen the backbreaking work of constant weeding.

Densely-planted areas should keep weeds at bay because the dark stops seeds from germinating. Well-chosen ground cover plants can also give a softer appearance to hard surfaces such as brickwork and paving.

Here's a few pointers to keep in mind...

Use the right plants

There are many obvious perennials to use, which will quickly take up space and add colour to the border, such as the wild geranium (cranesbill), but some need more work than others. Many make excellent permanent edging, such as Alchemilla mollis, Bergenia cordifolia 'Purpurea' and Saxifraga x urbium.

Check first, however, that such plants will be suitable for your soil. And remember that deciduous ground cover plants lose their leaves in autumn, so if you are using them in abundance you may find yourself with some ugly gaps in your border during the winter months.

Research fast-growers

Other quick-growing varieties include Persicaria affinis, which thrives in sun or light shade and provides up to a 24-inch evergreen carpet, with pinkish-purple flowers emerging in summer.

Helianthemum 'Praecox' produces small yellow flowers above a 6-inch evergreen carpet of grey-green leaves, flowering between June and August.

Other relatively trouble-free ground cover plants include Ajuga reptans, astilbe, Calluna vulgaris, Erica carnea and Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety'.

Watch out for invasive species

Vigorous ground cover has its pros and cons. The advantage is that vigorous plants will fill an area quickly at less cost - but if you ever decide to change your scheme, they may be difficult to get rid of.

Periwinkle (vinca) is extremely hard to get rid of, snow-in-summer will fill a sunny site in just one season but will also take over everything else. And lily-of-the-valley, while wonderfully fragrant, has deep vein-like roots which are almost impossible to eradicate should you wish to do so.

Perennial geraniums are also quite vigorous, but they are easier to contain and do provide some welcome colour during the summer.

Fill difficult spots

If you have a difficult spot to fill, such as a steep bank in shade, Ajuga reptans (bugle) is a strong evergreen, which carries spikes of blue flowers from late spring to midsummer. It spreads quickly, forming a carpet which will easily act as ground cover under shrubs and trees.

Other shade-lovers that make good ground cover include heucheras, which come in a range of colours from almost black to acid green. Their flowers are also a magnet to bees.

Infill with reliable favourites

When planting a border and graduating it from taller plants at the back to lower-growing varieties at the front, you can always add interest by placing a number of taller species forward into the middle ground, which applies particularly to tall hardy perennials such as lupins and delphiniums.

Good infill plants, once you have established the framework of your border, include potentilla, rosemary, spiraea, cystus, acanthus and rudbeckia, while at the lowest level towards the front of the border you could use dwarf hebes, alchemilla, epimedium and lamium.

Plant carefully enough and you should soon have a riot of colour, without the need for too much hoeing or hand-weeding.

How Megan Thee Stallion Turned ‘Hot’ Into a State of Mind – The New York Times

The summer of 2019 had a sound, a meme, a hashtag and an entire mood set by a then 24-year-old rapper from Houston named Megan Thee Stallion. #HotGirlSummer started out as a tweet that morphed into a meme that became a chart-topping track featuring Nicki Minaj that catapulted the artist into a national spotlight, with legions of fans she has nicknamed her Hotties. The genius of Hot Girl Summer is that it was much more than a song it was a feeling, propagated by social media, particularly Instagram and TikTok, of freedom and abandon that could contain everything from a performance of Megan twerking while wearing a particularly bright pair of lime green chaps to a photograph of Tom Hanks smiling beatifically while wearing a white dress shirt tied in a knot.

Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, has been making music and music videos since high school, steadily building a following by releasing songs and freestyling on local radio shows. In 2016, she appeared against a city skyline in a compilation video of local Texas rappers, distinguishing herself with her cool demeanor and laser-precision flow. She later refined her style in a sun-drenched YouTube video called Stalli Freestyle, which collected millions of views, and her EP Tina Snow. Her first album, Fever, followed last year and her latest, Suga, began streaming this month.

I caught up with her on a cold night in February, fresh off a performance on The Tonight Show, Starring Jimmy Fallon, at the 21 Club, a midtown Manhattan restaurant. Megan, a health-administration student at Texas Southern University, arrived in sweatpants and a Dragon Ball Z T-shirt, along with 4oe, her gunmetal gray French bulldog puppy, to talk about the aftermath of going viral, the sanctuary of alter egos and what she hopes to do by the time she turns 40.

Jenna Wortham: As a 90s baby, do you feel as if your career and music are Internet-first?

Meghan Thee Stallion: The main reason I am where I am today is because of the Internet, but the crazy thing is I didnt grow up online. My mom played UGK, Biggie and Lil Kim, and my dad was a big Three 6 Mafia fan, so the music I was listening to was already grown. When I got old enough to curse and rap, I was thinking, What would Biggie think about this? Would Pimp C like this? Even though my career does really well because of the Internet, my style is not new. I watched old DVDs of people in Houston and videos of guys in a circle, rapping, freestyling with each other. Showcases. I was thinking, I have to rap my ass off. Every time I had the opportunity to go somewhere and freestyle, I would do that, because thats what I was looking at.

Arielle Bobb-Willis for The New York Times

I wonder if its that combination the expertise and focus and being so deep in that rap tradition combined with the savviness of new mediums like YouTube and Instagram that drew people in. Definitely. I had to put it out on the Internet every day and hope that it caught on. At first I wasnt thinking about going viral. I wanted people to hear me rapping because thats what I like to do. I already had a big following in high school and college. One day, in 2013, my best friends and I made a twerk video, and it went viral at the school. One of our teachers called us into a meeting, and she pulled up the video on a projector and lectured us. She was like, Is this how you want to be represented? And we looked at each other, like, Yeah!

When I was in high school, I wanted that life to be completely different than my Megan Thee Stallion life, but I couldnt hide it. I was always Thee Stallion, so Ive always been making videos as me. I was shooting videos like every week. My classmates would ask me for pictures. I refused to get an Instagram at first. And then like everybody in high school was on Instagram, so I was like, [big dramatic sigh] Guess Ill get it.

It worked out youre really good at Instagram! Im not even trying. I dont like my Instagram to look like its a commercial. I want you to come to my page and feel like Im still your classmate. I do post when Im taking a quiz because I want my Hotties to know Im still going to school. I want people to look at my page and think, This is real life.

It seems as if you have a good sense of personal boundaries. I know you have alter egos that you step into when you perform. Do they help with that? Those are mostly for my music. In my real life, theres only two of me in my head: Megan and Megan Thee Stallion. Megan is the nerd who wants to watch anime, stay in bed and crack jokes with everyone. Megan Thee Stallion is when I have to perform. My alter egos are my emotions. Tina Snow is when Im feeling confident. Shes based on Tony Snow, Pimp Cs alias. And right now Im doing Suga shes sweet and vulnerable. Shes me telling people its OK to mess up.

How are you thinking about your legacy? You recently filed to trademark Hot Girl Summer. Most artists have difficulty trademarking their original ideas. Getting something trademarked is a long process. But Hot Girl Summer is my thing, its not like LeBron trying to get Taco Tuesday. I saw other companies were using it, and I was like, Thank you for your support, but I have to secure this, because this is mine.

Arielle Bobb-Willis for The New York Times

I think the duality that you possess a person who can be seen in a string bikini, drinking Hennessy on a yacht one day and host a beach cleanup the next empowered a lot of women to realize they can also be multiple selves online and off. Hot Girl Summer isnt about being reckless; its about leaning into all of the parts of yourself. It has been a whole two seasons since the song came out last August. How do you reflect on that period? I dont think you could think about summer without thinking about Hot Girl Summer. The whole Hot Girl aesthetic I think people felt comfortable seeing someone doing whatever they wanted to do. Thats why a lot of women appreciated it. This year, Im working to show people what being a hot girl really is like. Do you know what a candy striper is? Eventually, I want to open an assisted-living facility in Houston, but before that, I want to get girls together to go to different homes or hospitals. Those people dont have anybody, and I think itd be really cute to have a Hot Girl come visit you and volunteer.

All my life Ive been a person whos had my hands in a lot of things. I was a bill collector at one point. I was a bartender. When I started rapping and making money, I was like, Im going to use this to do the things I really want to do: Finish school and start my business. I know Im going to be an artist, and Im going do something in the medical field. I dont want to look up and be 40, and be like, Damn, I wish I wouldve done that.

Jenna Wortham is a staff writer for the magazine and co-host of the podcast Still Processing. She previously wrote about a reboot of the show The L Word for a Screenland column. Arielle Bobb-Willis is a photographer from New York who was recently featured in Apertures The New Black Vanguard. This is her first assignment for the magazine.

This interview has been edited and condensed.

Stylist: E.J. King. Hair: Kellon Williams.

Fit in my 40s: Mamma mia! Can I really work out by singing Abba? – The Guardian

Mark De-Lisser is a voice coach, lately a media one, making heart-warming reality shows in which he builds community choirs to beat loneliness, or the solitude of dementia, or just to soften the condition of being human. Many benefits are psychological, in a space beyond (but passing through) mindfulness, where you make your heart sing by singing. But there are physical benefits, too, from posture to breathing to a muscular skeletal reboot, which is why Im in De-Lissers studio though I want my heart to sing as much as the next man.

In its anteroom are photos of Mark in front of his choirs: one catches my eye, a bunch of middle-aged women, all in green evening dress like bridesmaids to a bride determined to outshine them, looking absolutely pleased as punch to be standing next to him. I bet theyre singing Abba, I thought. No way on Gods Earth am I singing an Abba song.

Deeper breath, he starts. Singing encourages you to use deeper breath. Its like exercise you release endorphins in the body. There are, he says, benefits to this, including clearing toxins out of the lungs, and thereby the blood. There is a whole deep-breathing culture, spun out of yoga, with precisely this in mind: the benefit here is that you also get to make a noise.

But first, work on your posture: if you store a lot of tension in your shoulders, it makes your voice strained and weak. We spend quite a bit of time relaxing, teaching my arms how to go limp. It is work a person could do on their own, and quite engrossing, provided you can accept relaxation as an activity in its own right (this is what often stands between a person and self-improvement, Ive decided; not a lack of willpower, just an inability to pause).

Of course, at some point I have to sing. Whats your favourite song? asks De-Lisser. My mind is blank. Everyones mind is blank at that point. OK, now its worse than blank; its an abyss. What were you listening to on the way here? No Children, by the Mountain Goats. Its the most complicated song ever. I could probably play it, he says (he is extremely musical, needless to say, a chorister since he was a child). But is there anything else you know? Waterloo! I know the words to Waterloo!

And thats how I came to be singing Abba, in a soundproofed room in Croydon. The first rendition was a washout, thin and breathy and peculiarly whiny. The second was a bit more disciplined in terms of breathing you have to breathe, deeply, wherever the line allows, and this does force you into taking authentic big breaths, whether you like it or not. For the third, Mark tried tirelessly to persuade me to go louder, to try and reach the cheap seats, and I had to say (this is a pure manners question), I dont agree with being incredibly loud unless youre incredibly good. Who decides whats good? he says, which is calming without being all that persuasive.

To improve at singing, you would need a coach, and for more than one lesson; to improve at breathing, though, one song a day, at full volume, is inexplicably energising.

People tend to want to sound like other people. You have to strip away the mimicry before you can hear your natural sound and tone, Mark De-Lisser says.

Norton Secure VPN – The cocoon of cybersecurity – Blasting News United States

The VPN market is one of the growing segments of the IT industry. New service providers are jostling for space among the more prominent players in an increasingly crowded sector. The market is today seeing many start-ups, and they are holding their own among the major brands. These greenhorns offer security in new areas of privacy. However, significant players like Norton Secure VPN are still leading the roost with simple products that are affordable and provide underlying protection for the everyday user.

Here we explain various protocols and security mechanisms used in VPN.

When a common internet infrastructure secure network creates a safe set up much like a cocoon insulating the data of the user from phishing or malware attacks, it is known as a Virtual Private network. The system uses a different security mechanism like encryption to allow only authorized users to access the data. Norton Secure VPN protects your data by creating a virtual tunnel and hides your IP address, making it almost impossible to track your location between websites.

Today most VPN services offer split tunneling for better security. The user can decide which apps will use the VPN Split tunneling setup. Multihop VPN routes the users connection through several servers for additional protection. However, this feature is not available in the packs of most VPN providers, and the user has to shell out a few more bucks to get them included. However, Norton Secure VPN is being offered at very economical rates, and this also includes enhanced security features like split tunneling for better security.

Before deciding on a VPN product make sure your data is not being shared.

Norton Secure VPN does not share its users data with any third parties including ad networks or other monetization solutions, so you can trust them with keeping your data 100% secure.

Today internet security has gained more urgency. Parents are finding it more and more challenging to insulate their kids from cyberbullying.

It is an ideal time to go for an online health check-up and reinforce any chinks in online security.

Identity theft instances are also increasing, and fraudsters regularly dupe nave netizens. Credit Card passwords, Social Security Card details can be obtained illegally. Services such as LifeLock from Norton Secure VPN will ensure that fraudsters cannot hack your private login details.

Be aware of online safety. Educate users, especially kids, about the threats regularly.

Use your internet time wisely and productively. Focus more on-screen time quality.

Cybercriminals are shrewd operators and update their modus operandi to bypass security measures. Remain up to date with the latest versions of the security apparatus. Regularly update the patches sent by the Norton Secure VPN to remove security vulnerabilities.

Passwords are the first line of defense against any cyber-attacks. Enhance password security by creating stronger passwords and keep changing them to make it more difficult for fraudsters to steal your private details. Use different passwords for different apps and enhance your security by using a password management program like the Norton Password Manager.

New rules proposed to boost security of home routers – The Straits Times

Consumers here will get some help in picking secure Internet home routers, if new rules proposed yesterday are accepted.

The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is looking to introduce a series of requirements to "provide a safer and more secure Internet experience for users, and to strengthen the resilience of Singapore's telecommunications networks".

The surge in intelligent devices in homes, such as Web cameras and baby monitors, makes it important to secure home routers, the authority said.

Under the proposed rules, home routers that meet stringent requirements, including stronger password administration, will receive a compliance label.

"Residential gateways, commonly known as home routers, are often the first entry point as they form the key bridge between the Internet and residents' home networks," said an IMDA spokesman.

These routers are often used by hackers keen on spying or stealing information.

The proposed rules are such that new routers sold to consumers will not be allowed to have default passwords, which means no two routers will have the same access codes.

Consumers will instead have to set up their own passwords and there will be a minimum level of password strength required.

The default settings of these routers will have to be better managed and controlled as well. For instance, the firewall will have to be turned on by default.

Manufacturers will also have to make sure that their routers automatically update to the latest and most secure firmware.

The IMDA is now seeking views from the industry and the public on the requirements.

The authority said that together with the cyber security labelling scheme that will be rolled out by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), its effort to introduce more stringent rules for home routers will better protect Internet-of-Things devices here.

Residents will not be required to change their home routers. Instead, they can look out for the IMDA label when they get new routers.

If the proposed rules are accepted, all new routers sold here must comply with the IMDA's specifications by early next year... To give manufacturers time to adjust, the rules will kick in six months after the finalised standards come into effect.

If the proposed rules are accepted, all new routers sold here must comply with the IMDA's specifications by early next year.

The IMDA said that in order to give manufacturers time to adjust, the rules will kick in six months after the finalised standards come into effect. Previously approved home routers can continue to be sold until one year after the finalised standards come into effect.

The authority noted that some manufacturers have already incorporated the proposed requirements in newer models of their home routers. It expects that mainstream models will continue to remain affordable as new equipment complying with the IMDA's rules are launched.

Yesterday, the IMDA also announced a new IoT guide to help business users and vendors safely deploy IoT systems and devices.

The guide was developed by the IMDA and CSA after a public consultation in January last year and is available on the IMDA's website.

Leaders should act now to counter national security threat to US elections | TheHill – The Hill

Foreign interference in upcoming U.S. elections is secondary right now to the ongoing coronavirus crisis in the country, but ultimately American leaders must address the problem. It is also is tempting to view foreign interference in the upcoming American elections as mischievous political meddling. Yet, these covert operations are much more than that. They are urgent national security matters that attack the U.S. national election process in ways that undermine the very foundation of American democracy.

The critical question today is: What will the current U.S. leaders and the national political parties do about it?

In 2016, the primary culprit was the Putin regime in Moscow who favored Donald Trump for president. Recent congressional testimony indicates that Russian interference continues into the 2020 presidential campaign, and Moscow apparently added Bernie Sanders to its list of supported candidates. However, the administration just softened its position on interference in a carefully choreographed assessment after President TrumpDonald John TrumpThe Hill's Morning Report Coronavirus tests a partisan Washington The Memo: Virus crisis upends political world Bill to protect children online ensnared in encryption fight MORE publicly attacked the briefer who presented the earlier judgment.

More recently, CNN exposed Russian internet operations in Africa spreading divisive hate messages among targeted audiences in the U.S.

Foreign attacks on American elections are not just political issues. They are an urgent bipartisan national security threat. Today, Putins favorite may be Trump. Tomorrow, it could be foreign interests with a preference for Democratic candidates.

The Republican Party seems unlikely to aggressively counter Russian or other foreign influence since the president calls the entire covert Russian election interference operation a hoax and removes or intimidates any government official who hints otherwise.

The Mueller Report and the associated U.S. national intelligence assessments established that Russia directly interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Yet, the Trump administrations response has been half-hearted and ineffective. None of the sanctions placed on the Putin regime so far are enough to offset the advantages to Russia of the growing isolation of the U.S. from our traditional democratic allies, the weakening of NATO, Russian strategic advances in Syria and elsewhere and the political polarization in the U.S.

Further, Attorney General William BarrWilliam Pelham BarrBill to protect children online ensnared in encryption fight Trump suggests he may veto surveillance bill The Hill's Morning Report - Trump takes unexpected step to stem coronavirus MORE has undermined the Mueller Report and continues to challenge the legitimate U.S. counterintelligence operations and assessments that exposed the 2016 Russian interference in U.S. elections.

Skepticism of current threats to U.S. security is hardly the attitude of those committed to the defense of American elections against foreign attacks.

National security is a major responsibility of the Attorney General. Congress should be grilling Barr and his associates on why they are not conducting aggressive investigations to expose and respond to covert foreign influence operations rather than downplaying the threat to this nations democracy.

Given the current attitude of the Trump administration, the Democratic Party has the chance to become the voice of transparency, truth and national defense on foreign interference. The questions are whether they will seize the opportunity and whether they will be serious about it.

Here are some ideas for the major political parties to consider if they are to seriously tackle foreign interference in American democracy:

In the meantime, individual voters can take measures to limit the effects of covert foreign disinformation. They can recognize that political activists in all parties will interpret facts to the advantage of their candidates. The core issue is whether or not the parties are transparent in the sources of their information and the facts of their underlying assessments.
