Kyber 3.0 Upgrade Is Around the Corner – Product Release & Updates – Altcoin Buzz

The decentralized finance (DeFi) space was at full throttle last year. At the end of 2020 Q3, the total value locked (TVL) in the DeFi space was about $10 billion. Despite these huge achievements, the space also experienced several major constraints. Kyber Network, a popular Ethereum-based DeFi protocol, has previously highlighted most of these challenges in an October blog post. The protocol also highlighted several important changes that will help take care of the challenges currently faced by DeFi.

Topping its list of proposed solutions is its Kyber 3.0 protocol upgrade. The upgrade will move Kyber Network from a single protocol to a hub of purpose-driven liquidity protocols catered to various DeFi use cases.

Hashed officially confirmed this announcement via Twitter.

The Kyber 3.0 upgrade will be the greatest change to the Kyber ecosystem. It would enable the network to easily get accustomed to DeFi trends, also equally providing improved benefits to KNC holders, liquidity providers, developers, takers, etc.

Kyber 3.0 is made up of two phases Katana and Kaizen. Alongside Kyber 3.0, the platform will also be launching a new liquidity protocol dubbed Kyber DMM. In essence, it will allow for permissionless liquidity contributions from any person and give full access to this liquidity to any interested takers.

Kyber Network also has plans in place to enhance its tokens (KNC) governance power. To achieve this, plans are in place to upgrade both the KNC token and KyberDAO. This proposed upgrade will be voted upon by KNC holders.

Kyber Networks design was effective. It enabled on-chain scanning of liquidity providers on the network but faced huge drawbacks as the DeFi ecosystem grew. It was built as a single interface, so it had to be ETH-based and be a single permission model in order to ward off DDoS attacks. Kyber 3.0 aims to put an end to these constraints.

The upgrade is expected to drive better adaptability and also provide the network with better access to DeFi trends.

There are several advantages embedded in the proposed Kyber 3.0 upgrade. They include:

Alongside the proposed protocol upgrade, Kyber Network also has plans to launch the first-ever Dynamic Market Maker (DMM) in the DeFi space. The DMM will be available to all players on the network, including retail LPs.

The DMM will furthermore take care of AMMs impermanent loss (IL) and capital inefficiency. It will also help optimize fees on the platform via its Programmable Pricing Curve and its Dynamic Fees To help mitigate IL and increase LP profit

To make the networks proposed architecture change easy, the Kyber team will put forward a special upgrade to both KyberDAO and KNC tokens. The proposal is aimed at:

As previously stated, the upgrade will be in two phases: Katana and Kaizen. The Katana phase of the upgrade is expected between Q1 and Q2 2021. During this phase, Kyber DMM and the KNC and Kyber DAO proposal submission is expected to take place. The Kaizen upgrade is slated for Q3 2021, signaling the official completion of the Kyber 3.0 upgrade.

At the time of publication, KNC was trading at $1.34, with a market cap of $270,119,835 and a 24-hour trading volume of $77,729,379.

Staking on Synthetix is live on the L2 mainnet, Optimistic Ethereum (O).

With this staking, Synthetix has attained a new height. Likewise, the Ethereum ecosystem also experienced a new height as Optimistic Ethereum (O) is the first-ever scaling solution that has full cross-layer porting capabilities for smart contracts. In addition, such porting does not require the contracts to be rewritten.

The Synthetix team has been working for several months to prepare the protocol towards the launch of staking and the Synth exchanges on L2. With multiple phases in place, migrating to O has been developed to protect the core functionality of Synthetix. The team developed the first phase of migration for smaller SNX holders who are affected by the high gas costs on L1.

Migrating to O requires a bridge at https://staking.synthetix.io/l2, which will guarantee a successful migration from L1 to L2 for SNX holders. Prior to migration, SNX holders that have been taking part in SNX staking on L1 will be required to pay back any staking debt they have accrued. The staking debt must also be paid in sUSD to enable them to unstake their SNX.

Besides, the announcement stressed that SNX holders ensure that they have enough sUSD to pay back their debt before burning. The SNX holders should also note that the process of migration will eventually accept a variety of wallets. As for now, though, the migration only supports the MetaMask wallet.As soon as the debts have been paid by burning sUSD, there can be a successful migration of SNX to L2.

Once SNX holders finally migrate to Optimistic Ethereum, they would be able to stake their SNX and also mint sUSD. After migration, it is pertinent to note that there is a time delay of ~5 minutes, which will last until the migrated SNX balance will appear on L2.

The initial phases of L2 do not enable stakers to receive inflationary SNX rewards. They are not also eligible to receive Synth exchange rewards from L1. In the future, the Synthetix community governance process plans to give some of the weekly SNX inflationary supply to reward stakers on L2.

Before now, Synthetix announced their partnership with Chainlink, leading to the launch of their Synthetic oil asset, sOIL. Synthetix utilizes a Chainlink decentralized oracle network to mirror the price movement of oil.

As of the time of publication, Synthetix Network Tokens price was $18.45 with a 24-hour trading volume of $325,982,311. SNX price also went up 9.8% over the last 24 hours. Besides, it has a circulating supply of 143 million SNX coins and a max supply of 216 million. WhiteBIT is also the current most active market trading SNX.

American Cancer Society Now Accepting Bitcoin and Altcoin Donations | BTCMANAGER – BTCMANAGER

American Cancer Society has recognized bitcoin (BTC) and other blockchain-based digital assets as legitimate payment methods. The 103-year-old voluntary health organization has now launched a cancer fund exclusively funded by crypto donations.

Its no news that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has further fueled a mass exodus from cash to digital payment options including cryptocurrencies, and the shift is partly responsible for the surge in the price of bitcoin and other cryptoassets since late 2020.

According to the American Cancer Society, an Atlanta-based health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic reduced its ability to fund cancer research by 50 percent, as it could not get enough cash donations to pursue its mission.

Against that backdrop, the organization has launched the Cancer Crypto Fund, to give donors more options to support its course. With its new Cancer Crypto Fund, the American Cancer Society is aiming to raise at least $1 million before the end of Q1 2021.

The Cancer Crypto fund is seeking to raise at least $1,000,000 by early 2021 and will go directly to funding critical cancer research. COVID-19 reduced our ability to fund cancer research by 50 percent in 2020 the lowest investment this century, the organization wrote.

As seen on its website, the supported cryptocurrencies include bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), litecoin (LTC), gemini dollar (GUSD), basic attention token (BAT), bitcoin cash (BCH) and chainlink (LINK).

In a bid to incentivize crypto whales to donate towards its course, the nonprofit corporation has made it clear that the first crypto donor to donate $250,000 in any of the supported digital currencies will have the opportunity to rename the fund.

Whats more, the organization has also hinted that those who donate up to $10k or more will appear on its Cancer Crypto Fund wall of honour.

American Cancer Society recognizes the emergence of cryptocurrency and knows the impact cancer has across this and many other communities, it added.

As detailed in its 2018 resource allocation data, the nonprofit corporation invested $147 million in cancer research, $269 million in patient support, $104 million in cancer prevention information and education, and $63 million was invested in cancer detection and treatment.

In related news, bitcoin and altcoins have continued to attract the attention from institutional investors this season and it appears the trend may continue for a very long time, if the latest comments by Cathie Wood, the CEO of ARK Investment Management, is anything to go by.

At press time, the price of bitcoin (BTC) is hovering around the $31,597 mark, a more than eight percent crash in the last seven days.

CHESS CubeSat Constellation to Carry FUNcube Transponders – ARRL

In 2020, a project between AMSAT-UK, AMSAT-NL, and Swiss universities got under way with the aim of equipping two Swiss satellites for now under the CHESS name with linear amateur radio transponders. Linear transponders permit several CW or SSB contacts to take place simultaneously within a prescribed passband. The satellites also include features for classroom demonstrations and experiments. The CHESS (Constellation of High Energy Swiss Satellites) project includes two satellites, which will be built simultaneously and later launched as a constellation.

The main science objective is to improve the understanding of the upper atmosphere by in-situ measurementstaking advantage of a constellation of identical nanosatellites to study the composition of the terrestrial atmosphere and its density, the CHESS website explains.

The first satellite will have a nearly circular orbit at an altitude of 400 kilometers. The second will have an elliptical orbit with an altitude of 350 1,000 kilometers.

The amateur radio payload is a joint project of AMSAT-UK and AMSAT-NL. A successful review of system requirements was completed in December. Launch will not take place until the fourth quarter of 2022.

Special attention will focus on diverse, high-risk and hard-to-reach populations, delivering information via trusted local messengers and simplifying the vaccination process while reinforcing basic COVID-19 prevention measures.

'The best players in Michigan go to Michigan' has been a mantra, and true at times. But with the new hires Harbaugh has made on his assistant coaching staff, it appears that it has a great chance to become a reality once again.

This month, Harbaugh hired Mike Hart, the Maize and Blue's leading rusher of all time, to coach running backs, sending shockwaves throughout the Michigan community. Since his NFL playing days were over, Hart has excelled as a coach at Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Syracuse and, most recently, Indiana, where he was promoted to associate head coach in addition to his duties leading the Hoosiers' running backs.

The Michigan legend was the talk of the Sound Mind Sound Body College Evaluation camp held in Wixom, Mich. Jan. 18. There is belief that Hart can bolster the Maize and Blue's in-state recruiting efforts in a big way.

"Super exciting. Its going to provide a direct link from the city to Ann Arbor once again," Harper Woods high school head coach Rod Oden said. "We havent had that in a couple years. As of right now, I dont even think they got a coach assigned to our area.

Greenidge Generation Responds to Opposition in Bitcoin Mining Expansion – WENY-TV

Over the last several years, a small number of people in our community have done everything possible to hurt our facility and the many good people who work there. Never letting facts stand in their way, they have failed at every turn. So, this week the same group is back again with a new letter addressed to the Governor. The problem for them is that there is absolutely nothing new about it it includes only the same claims have been rejected and debunked by the Courts in New York, the State and by our local community who supports the economic contribution and environmental progress being made by Greenidge. Here are the facts:

In 2016, the Sierra Club and the Committee to Preserve the Finger Lakes (CPFL) sued the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. They sought to have revoked the NYSDEC-issued air permits and the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) analysis of our operation. The Supreme Court denied their petition in its entirety. The Appellate Division agreed, dismissing their appeal.

The same group, including the Sierra Club and the CPFL, also filed a petition in 2017 to revoke Greenidges water permits and again challenge the NYSDECs rigorous SEQRA analysis. On that score also, the New York Supreme Court denied their petition in its entirety.

In September of 2020, the same collaborators then sent a letter to the NYSDEC claiming that the use of a portion of the onsite generated power for cryptocurrency mining constituted misrepresentations to the State and NYSDEC. They made the same request, to have Greenidges permits modified or revoked and got the same answer. The NYDEC stated:

The facility is in compliance with the terms and conditions in all permitsWe have determined that none of the groundswhich allow the Department to suspend, modify or revoke permits, were identified. Therefore, we will not be suspending, modifying, or revoking the Greenidge permits in response to your letter.

These efforts continue to ring hollow because they remain entirely ideologically driven, and devoid of any merit. The NYSDEC issued the Greenidge water and air permits, and conducted a full SEQRA analysis of our operation, based on 24/7 operation of the facility to provide electricity. Greenidge is doing, and will continue to only do, precisely what the NYSDEC permits allow -- generate electricity.

This group should be praising Greenidge for its environmental stewardship. After decades of operating as a coal-fired power generation facility, Greenidge invested over $20 million to convert to gas in 2017. Today, Greenidge is an environmentally-sound source of power for our region, fully permitted and fully compliant with all federal and state laws and regulations protecting our air and water. Greenidge is investing millions of dollars in new technologies to protect Seneca Lake. Greenidge has a new Title V Air Permit which, at our request, requires the site never be operated on coal again.

Our facility is also a thriving economic engine for the State of New York. Greenidge has invested tens of millions of dollars into revitalizing the facility and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on local vendors and companies each year. This investment strengthens our economy most notably during this difficult period of the pandemic. Greenidge also pays hundreds of thousands in taxes each year, with that number set to increase even further in the days ahead.

Greenidge employs 27 people full-time, and many more as onsite contractors. That means dozens of families across Yates County have good jobs and bright futures. And, when called upon to operate on very cold nights or hot days, Greenidge provides enough electricity to serve over 20,000 homes in our region.

Recently, Greenidge took a step to cement New Yorks role as the financial capital of the world by launching a one of a kind data center in the Finger Lakes region for cryptocurrencies and other hosting applications. This data center is one of the premier, fully integrated, behind-the-meter cryptocurrency mining operations in the country. We are bringing tech and innovation to the Finger Lakes, developing blockchain jobs for the new economy, just as the Governor has challenged us all to do.

The public should pay no attention to the next Facebook post, press release or Op Ed regarding Greenidge from the Sierra Club or the Committee to Preserve the Finger Lakes. Consider the source; their legal arguments havent gotten better with age, and their letters to politicians are more about creating headlines for themselves than creating a better environment for all of us.

Gardner Withdraws Two Bills From 2021 Legislative Package – WFMD

Frederick, MD (KB) At a public information briefing on Thursday, Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner announced she is withdrawing two bills in her 2021 Legislative Package.

One would provide transparency to home-buyers so they knew what fees they might be expected to pay and who would be receiving those fees, she explained. The other legislation was to protect county employees from having their wages released to data mining companies which would make them vulnerable to identity theft.

Due to an unconventional legislative session because of COVID-19, Gardner said lawmakers are only considering a limited number of bills.

I am committed to the goals of this legislation, but I recognize that this year may not be the best time to advance these bills, she said.

Gardner said she will continue to advance the bill that relates to vacancies on the Board of Education. This proposal will enable voters to choose a replacement for vacant seats on the Frederick County Board of Education.

Flo certainly isnt the only app accused of mishandling intimate data. In 2019, Privacy International, a nonprofit group in Britain, studied a number of popular period-tracking apps s and reported that two of them transmitted sensitive information such as details on users symptoms and contraceptive use to Facebook and other companies.

Over the last two years, lawmakers and state attorneys general in the U.S. have begun scrutinizing period-tracking and fertility apps. Last March, several members of Congress sent letters to Apple and Google asking the companies to remove any period trackers that collected users health data without obtaining their explicit permission, in an attempt to place more responsibility on the gatekeepers.

In the European Union, the onus is squarely on app developers, giving consumers broad rights to control their data. In particular, a comprehensive E.U. law called the General Data Protection Regulation typically requires companies to obtain explicit permission before collecting or sharing sensitive personal information like health details.

Deceptive data mining, misleading privacy policies and other troubling practices do not negate the need for womens health apps. But regulators going after leaky apps, one by one, doesnt give consumers much confidence or clarity either.

Whats needed, experts suggest, is a new regulatory framework that enables health care providers and researchers to work with consumer apps to better understand womens health, whether its symptoms, medications or different responses to disease.

Until recently, women have been underrepresented in medical research, clinical trials for drugs and vaccines, and even biology textbooks, leaving health care providers with large blind spots in their understanding of and ability to care for womens bodies, which often have very different needs and responses than mens bodies.
