Republicans are trying to bully a GOP lawmaker out of Congress for insufficient loyalty to Trump – Salon

Republican Congressman Anthony Gonzalezwas censured by the Ohio Republican Party this past week, alongside another nine GOP lawmakers, over their role in voting in favor of former President Donald Trump's impeachment. But theOhio Republican Party isn't stopping with merely censuring Gonzalez; now they want him to submitin his resignation letter.

"On Friday, the party's governing board called on Gonzalez, R-Rocky River, to resign in a divided vote. They also voted to censure Gonzalez and nine other members of Congress for "their votes to support the unconstitutional, politically motivated impeachment proceeding against President Donald J. Trump," according to the resolution," TheCincinnati Enquirer reported.

While Ohio has long been considered a swing state, home to more moderate Republicans such as Senator Rob Portman and former Speaker of the HouseJohn Boehner, the modern-day Ohio GOP has takenstepsto align themselves with the party of Trump, made ever so clear by the move to oust "RINO's" (Republicans only in name) such asGonzalez.

Ohio State senator Shannon Burns, a member of the state's central committee, has since called forGonzalez to resign, statingthat he"betrayed his constituents" and "demonstrated a hidden vendetta against" the former president. Burns went onto claim thatGonzalez"relied on his emotions rather than the will of his constituents and any credible facts" when considering the Trump impeachment charges.

"Ohio Republicans had planned to vote on censuring Gonzalez and the other House Republicans on Friday, but a resolution to call for Gonzalez's resignation was first introduced during the meeting, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Republican Party told CNN, and was then passed by the central committee," CNN reported on Friday.

InJanuary, following his vote to impeach Trump,Gonzalez said in a statement that he took the measure to impeach over the president's role to "incite a mob that attacked the United States Congress."Gonzalez further argued that Trump"abandoned his post while many members asked for help, thus further endangering all present."

Gonzalez's primary challenger,Max Miller, who has been endorsed by Trump, also seized on the move to censure, tweeting, "The Ohio GOPhas voted to hold Anthony Gonzalez accountable for abandoning his constituents, his promises, and the Republican Party. Regardless if he resigns or not, we are going to continue spreading our strong, pro-Trump, America First message to every corner of this district."

While the vote to ventureGonzalez wasn't a focal point ofCleveland conservative radio host Bob Frantz, the vote did receive the support ofpro-Trump candidates in the state.

"From day one, I have strongly supported efforts to censure and expel traitor Congressmen like Anthony Gonzalez who voted to impeach President Trump," said far-rightOhioSenatecandidate Josh Mandel.

The move to censure Gonzalez comes as GOP leaders back in Washinton, D.C. tussle with the prospects of ousting House Republican chairwoman Liz Cheney from her post over her staunch opposition to Trump as early as Wednesday. While Trump-friendly allies say RepublicanNew YorkRep. Elise Stefanik should take over Cheney's role, many Trumpworld characters argue Stefanik might not be loyal enough to Trump."Others, like pundits Ann Coulter and Raheem Kassam, editor in chief of the populist online outlet National Pulse, went on a retweeting spree, highlighting writer after writer, tweet after tweet, questioning Stefanik's commitment to the Trump movement's core tenets, particularly on immigration," Politico noted on Friday.

Welcome to the community: Deriving more value from Oracle in the cloud – ITProPortal

Are organizations getting enough value from their current cloud hosting solutions? Its a big question and one that is central to the ethos of a lot of challenger brands.

According to a recent study, only 37 percent of businesses are getting the full value they expected from cloud technology. So, when it comes to choosing a provider, how can companies make sure they are maximizing the value of their cloud investment?

If we take value to mean a balance between performance, security, reliability, scalability, the level of service and the total cost of ownership of a platform, then its likely that every company will value a different blend of those requirements.

Every workload or application has its own set of specific hosting criteria. For each organization these requirements may differ too, depending on its business objectives. Take Oracles E-Business Suite (EBS) for example. Oracle EBS covers a huge a range of enterprise functions including finance, procurement, supply chain, manufacturing, human resources and payroll. These Oracle applications forma reliablebackbonefor enterprises and can often run more efficiently when configured to run on cloud infrastructure.

In recent years, there has been a dramatic shift in attitudes with regards to hosting applications with public cloud providers. The embrace of cloud technology to enable remote work over the last year has put it firmly on every CIOs radar once again. According to Gartner, spending on public cloud services revenue will grow another 18 percent in 2021 to $305bn.

Flexibility and scalability are key elements driving this cloud growth. A recent study by Aptum found increased efficiency to be the top cloud driver amongst nearly three-quarters (72 percent) of respondents.

In practice this means being able to add large amounts of computing power with relative ease and at a fraction of the cost of buying servers that reside on-premise. When IT teams source their own hardware, they need to predict their needs for roughly five years at a time - a lifetime in todays fast moving commercial world.

When partnering with a Cloud Hosting Provider, customers only pay for what they use and add compute and storage when needed. That focus on scalability has driven the growth of cloud behemoths, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure over the last two decades.

But when it comes to optimizing specific application sets, an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) provider like Azure or AWS, may not be the best option, as is the case for Oracle systems.

In an IaaS environment a customer rents infrastructure that is supplied and managed online by a Cloud Hosting Provider. They run the data centre and servers, and organizations run their own software. Organizations running Oracle EBS on IaaS cloud will need in-house services, or to engage a 3rd party, to deploy and manage the required systems.

IaaS hyperscalers like AWS and Azure do offer additional security and compliance tools as chargeable extras, but again they do not manage them. The entire task and cost of migration usually falls down to the customer too. The lift and shift approach that is typical of inexperienced migrations, only changes the location of IT and will not optimize the overall workload performance.

Of course, the largest cost consideration for hosting Oracle software on one of these public cloud platforms is the relatively high cost of licensing the technology. This license cost, plus those extras, and the likely need for support, drastically increases the total cost of ownership of hosting Oracle applications on an IaaS cloud. Money is not the only answer, but it does make a difference.

It begs the question, is hyperscale domination side-lining service as a core cloud requirement?

In a Platform-as-a-Service environment, the Cloud Hosting Provider maintains control over the virtualization software and hardware. Consequentially, all servers, storage and networking can be managed as part of the cloud package. This reduces the need for customers to manage the solution, freeing up time and resources.

Accentures research found that skills shortages top the list of technical concerns for hyperscale IaaS environments. PaaS providers can address some of those concerns.

Migration and configuration are covered as part of the PaaS offering. The additional wrap around services for security and resilience are also included and managed. This eliminates the need for in-house teams to be trained and spend time on these activities.

The level of service for a PaaS platform depends on the provider. For Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, as an example, there are many organizations that can provide further wrap around services, as highlighted in Gartners 2021 Market Guide for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Professional and Managed Services.

CommunityCloud platforms host multiple tenants, allowing several companieswith similar requirementsto work on the same platform.

Community Clouds main differentiator is that it enables the same degree of customization as a private cloud platform but allows the costs to be spread across more users. This allows users to achieve a higher degree of customizationthatsuits the common purposes of its tenants and that isnt possible on a public cloud platform.

A community cloud built on Oracles own virtualization architecture is optimized specifically for application sets like Oracle EBS. The level of this support can be tailored to the customers needs and there is a greater range of services available.

Within a hybrid multi-cloud context this set up makes even more sense. The specific hardware and skills provided by a community cloud provider, will allow organizations to enjoy all the traditional benefits associated with cloud, with better Oracle application performance, a full-service wrapper, scalable options for compute and storage resource, and lower total cost of ownership. Organizations can then take advantage of similar offerings, that are configured to optimize other workloads.

IaaS hyperscaler providers present customers with a myriad of options that can easily overwhelm non-technical buyers. Identifying the CPUs, data disks, and NICs can be time consuming, and wont necessarily yield the best solution. PaaS solutions that operate in specific niches provide fewer, more appropriate options, that are tailored to the workload.

Using a complex piece of softwarelike Oracle EBS on the cloudis a bit like running a Formula 1 car. It requires a team of expert engineers, with differing specialties, working on itin order tooptimize it and make it perform at its best. Choosing the right Cloud Hosting Provider, the right engineers, is crucial to making the most of your investment in Oracle.

A guide to cloud computing, the multibillion-dollar industry that powers your favorite apps – Business Insider

You may have heard of "the cloud" countless times, but only have a general idea what it means. Cloud computing is the delivery of "on-demand" computing services whether it's storage, software, processing power, or other resources over the internet. You typically pay as you go, billed only for the resources you use or the storage amount you're subscribed to.

Though cloud computing isn't an especially new innovation (it's been around for decades), it's become increasingly important to the most popular apps around today.

The term "cloud computing" masks a lot of complexity. Where is the server? "In the cloud" most users generally don't need to know more than that.

The name obscures the fact that there are several different kinds of cloud computing architectures.

Not only are there distinctions between the architecture of cloud services, but there are some key differences in the kind of applications that cloud computing is used for.

Cloud computing services tend to fall into one of three main categories, and you can read more about this in our guide to cloud applications.

While cloud computing was a novelty in years past, the proliferation of online services, web apps, broadband, massive commercial data centers, and other technologies have made cloud computing a core part of today's technological landscape. Here are some of the most common applications for cloud computing today.

While cloud computing has become a critical part of the modern computing landscape, it's not without its disadvantages.

For example, despite the appeal of "renting" rather than "buying," cloud computing isn't necessarily cheaper. Long-term, it can be more cost-effective to own and operate your own computing resources, especially if you need those resources indefinitely. If the company hosting your cloud computing service of choice shuts down, you could lose all your data.

Additionally, there are security concerns. If a third party is hosting your data, it's a potential risk vector for hackers and corporate espionage.

Companies may also want to own their own computing resources as a way to differentiate their capabilities. If you are using the same third-party services as the competition, for example, it's difficult to offer capabilities that are better than, or even different than what they offer.

On the other hand, cloud computing is popular today because it still offers significant advantages over local computing. It's less costly, at least in the short term, compared to owning your own servers.

It also allows for greater mobility and portability of your data it's already in the cloud and can be accessed from anywhere. And it moves responsibility for factors like security and disaster recovery to a third party that theoretically has that expertise.

AWS wins hosting deal for NHS Scotland digital platform – UKAuthority.com

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) has signed Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host its National Digital Platform.

They have agreed on a 10-year contract worth up to 15 million for the company to provide a public cloud hosting service for the platform, which is being developed by the NES Digital Service as part of the Scottish Governments Digital Health and Care Strategy.

The contract notice says the platform will support the use of real time data at the point of care including through self-service enable the use of data at scale and operate to a predictable architecture. The latter feature should enable the development of new products to support the health and care system.

The infrastructure will be used in Scotlands health and care sector, which have been developed independently of each other and are often difficult to connect to work together.

It will include repositories for structured and unstructured clinical data, the capacity to power web and mobile applications, and an integration layer.

NES indicated a preference for a public cloud platform when it launched the procurement process in August 2019.

The deal marks a shift north of the border in a series of major wins for AWS in the UK public sector. In recent months it has agreed on contracts worth tens of millions of pounds with the Ministry of Justice, HM Revenue and Customs, the Home Office and the Department for Work and Pensions.

FICS Hosts 34th Annual Users’ Conference, Promotes Education in Technology for Continued Success – Business Wire

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FICS (Financial Industry Computer Systems, Inc.), a leading mortgage loan origination software, residential servicing software and commercial servicing software provider, recently hosted its 34th Annual Users Conference. The April virtual conference had more than 300 lenders, servicers, and other industry partners participating.

FICS customers enjoyed virtual demonstrations of new product features and enhancements as well as educational sessions surrounding regulatory changes affecting the mortgage industry. Special sessions featured comprehensive overviews of the system functionality in Loan Producer, Commercial Servicer, and Mortgage Servicer. Industry experts discussed COVID-19 forbearance plans, eMortgages, the upcoming migration from LIBOR to SOFR, and Uniform Loan Application Dataset (ULAD) and Uniform Closing Dataset (UCD) updates. Anita Brinkman, Manager of Servicing and Reporting for Rose Community Capital, said, With the 2021 FICS Users Conference being virtual, I didnt know what to expect. It wasnt the typical conference where we got to see everyone and interact with the FICS staff and other users in person, but it was filled with so much information. I was able to see things that I forget the system can do to help our processes. It is also a way to have input in new functionality added to the system. I look forward to the Users Conference every year.

In his session, The Migration from LIBOR to SOFR, Raj Aidasani, Senior Director of the CRE Finance Council (CREFC), discussed the differences between LIBOR and SOFR and compared two frameworks for using SOFR: In Advance versus In Arrears. In commercial real estate, there is a preference for the in advance given its operational ease and the importance of being able to convey the rate prior to the interest accrual period, said Aidasani. The GSEs have adapted the in advance framework and recently, the ARRCs Securitizations Working Group published a white paper where in advance was the favored approach. However, the in arrears methodology may be preferred by some market participants, and we expect to continue to work on conventions for an in arrears framework.

Fannie Mae representatives discussed forbearance-related changes to the Servicing Management Default Underwriter and new/upcoming features in Property 360 (their expense reimbursement software) during their session, SMDU Updates: Implementing Policy Updates for Borrowers Impacted by COVID-19.

In their ULAD/UCD Updates session, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac representatives reviewed the new Uniform Residential Loan Application (URLA) and outlined five steps lenders should take to prepare for Phase 1 of the UCD Critical Edits transition plan, starting 5/31/21.

In their eMortgages session, Mike Cafferky, Fannies Maes Product Manager for eMortgages, and Brian Pannell, DocMagics Chief eServices Executive, reviewed the benefits to borrowers and lenders of eClosings and discussed special considerations when implementing hybrid or completely electronic closings. Pannell and FICS Krista Harris demonstrated how to implement a hybrid eClosing with Loan Producer and Doc Magic.

Dawn Gibbs, CEO, and Susan Graham, President/COO, welcomed conference attendees and recognized FICS staffs dedication to providing exceptional customer support this past year throughout the pandemic. Many new customers joined the FICS family during a challenging time, exemplifying the confidence our customers have in FICS systems and support, said Graham.

The 2022 Users Conference will be held April 12th 14th in Dallas.

What is a blog and why you should start one – TechRadar

When launching an online presence, it can be tough to decide between a website and a blog. While a regular site is always a great starting point, creating a blog can make it easier to reach your audience and generate exposure on search engines.

For most, however, the difference between the two might not be instantly apparent. So, what is a blog, and what makes it different from typical websites?

Well explain it all in this guide. Well also cover the benefits of blogging, how to start a blog, tips to make money as a blogger, and what makes a successful blog in the first place.

A blog is a type of site that publishes frequently-updated information about any topic. The term stands for weblog or web log, referring to logging content on the world wide web.

Blogs originated in the late 1990s, namely as a platform to share an owners interests and experiences.

For instance, pioneer blogger Justin Hall initially used his personal blog to talk about his life and the websites he liked visiting. The person who coined weblog as a term, Jorn Barger, started his Robot Wisdom blog to publish essays on his interests from AI and history to James Joyce.

Blogs have grown exponentially since then. Out of 1.7 billion websites that exist around the world, 600 million of them are blogs.

The subject matter has also varied. While some internet users start a blog for personal reasons, many are using it to:

The primary difference between a blog and a website lies in its content.

Mainly, the content of a blog consists of blog posts, which are articles presented on web pages. The homepage typically displays these entries in reverse chronological order. The blogger usually publishes new posts or updates existing ones on a regular basis.

Here is an example of a blog by Braintree Payments. Notice how the page presents the content from the latest to oldest.

On the other hand, general static websites dont typically present information in reverse chronological order, nor do they require frequent updating.

For instance, the primary Braintree website contains pages about the companys products and their features. This type of information can stay the same for quite some time unless circumstances require a change.

Additionally, blogs usually encourage reader engagement via comments below the post. Its rare to find regular websites that include such a feature as they generally dont aim to connect with the audience.

The advantages to starting a blog include:

With these in mind, becoming a successful blogger is no easy feat. Besides good writing skills, some knowledge in marketing, SEO, and basic technical website skills may be necessary if you want to start a blog.

Now that What is a blog? has been answered, we'll go over a tutorial on how to start a blog yourself.

The first step to starting a blog is choosing a niche. In regards to blogging, this means a topic that will be the main focus of your content.

A niche can be broad or specific, depending on your preference. The key is to pick one that:

One way to find the right niche is by evaluating the blogs you follow. What do they talk about? What do they have in common? If you were the blog owners, how would you put your own spin on their content?

For some inspiration, check out Minimalist Baker. The food blog focuses on recipes that require only one bowl, less than ten ingredients, and up to 30 minutes to make. Such scope makes their content appealing to people who are busy or new to cooking.

2. Choose a web hosting service

After picking a niche, the next step in order to start a blog is choosing a web hosting service, which is responsible for storing and publishing websites on the world wide web.

With so many hosting providers and plans to choose from, it can be challenging to figure out the most suitable one for your blog. Here are some questions to guide your search:

Generally, new bloggers start with a shared hosting plan, which is an ideal option for websites with low to medium-sized traffic. Its also the most beginner-friendly option since it doesnt require advanced technical skills to manage.

Once the blogs size and traffic have outgrown the plans resources, the blogger will usually upgrade to a VPS or cloud hosting package.

Both come with more resources to support the website, though the first option requires some server management skills to ensure it can run properly.

Alternatively, consider purchasing a WordPress hosting plan. This type of service is readily optimized for the CMS and typically includes pre-installed plugins and themes to customize the blog with.

3. Register the blogs domain name

Besides a hosting service, a domain name is also essential to create a blog. Its the URL address people enter on their web browser to open a site.

Often, a domain also doubles as the blog name to boot, so consider picking one that sticks in peoples minds and sets the website apart from the rest.

Use these tips to come up with the perfect domain name:

4. Pick a theme and customize it

With the hosting and website set up, lets pick a blog theme.

Often, a theme works as the foundation for web design, so its good to know what elements to look for during your search. We recommend going for a theme that:

The CMSs official website usually has a directory to look for free themes. WordPress alone has over 8 thousand themes to choose from, so theres plenty to play around with.

After choosing a theme, start customizing the website. If you dont know where to start, use this checklist:

5. Create high-quality blog content

Before writing the blog posts, conduct some research. Doing this will help discover what topics to write about, what the target market looks for in the content, and how to provide better information than other blogs on the market.

Begin with researching keywords used by the target audience. Find out what search queries they may use that are relevant to your blog. Use tools like Ubersuggest and Answer the Public to help with this.

After selecting some keywords, check out the existing content for those terms. They can reveal insights into what information to include in the article. Evaluate the strengths of each blog post and combine them to provide more comprehensive content.

Now that you have some ideas, its time to create the article. Refer to these best practices to write a blog post:

6. Improve SEO

Short for search engine optimization, SEO aims to make your blog posts appear on the first pages of search engine results in hopes of earning more organic traffic.

Studies show that high-income bloggers mainly receive traffic from organic search. Thus, improving the sites SEO is worth it when trying to grow the blog and turn it into a business.

One way to increase your web pages rankings is by focusing on user experience. Search engines, namely Google, prioritize search results that offer beneficial information and make it easy for visitors to obtain it.

Thus, besides keyword research and top-quality blog content, pay attention to the following aspects of the website:

These are some of the primary means to optimize a website for search engines. That said, you also have to consider off-page SEO factors such as the number of inbound links that go to the blog and social media mentions.

7. Publish and promote your blog

Now that the website and content are ready, lets publish your written blog posts and promote them.

Besides SEO, there are many ways to make the blog known to the target audience, such as social media. Ideally, you want to be present in platforms suitable to the type of content you create.

For example, Instagram is excellent for such lifestyle blog owners as A Beautiful Mess. These bloggers are known for sharing beautiful photos from their personal lives. This platform is also popular among women, which is the blogs target market.

In addition to updating readers about the latest blog post, create bite-sized content from an existing article and interact with readers through comments. Consider using social media management tools to schedule upcoming posts and track their performance.

Another method to promote the site is by guest blogging, or writing articles for other blogs.

Doing this can not only gain more exposure to the blog but also build backlinks from trustworthy websites in the niche. Inbound links are crucial for SEO, as they can tell search engines that the site is a trusted resource among its industry.

Start by looking for popular blogs among your circles that accept guest submissions. Or, find a reverse blog, a platform where most blog posts come from freelance writers instead of the blog owner themselves.

Research their content thoroughly to get an idea of what theyre looking for. Pay attention to their submission guidelines. Then, create an email pitch explaining the type of article you intend to write and mention a blog post you like to demonstrate your knowledge of their website.

Finally, consider email marketing. More than half of users check their email first thing in the morning, so this tactic is a surefire way to reach your audience. For businesses, email marketing has an average return on investment of $42 for every dollar spent.

In addition to promoting blog posts, bloggers typically use emails to send exclusive content to their subscribers. Offering bonuses can make signing up for the mailing list much more attractive.

8. Track and tweak the blog as you go

With the blog up and running, you can measure its performance and make improvements in the process.

For this step, some analytics tools are necessary. Google Analytics is an excellent option for bloggers. Its free and can display such key metrics for blogging success as:

For measuring SEO efforts, check out Google Search Console. This platform can show the sites performance on search results pages from the average ranking position and the click-through rate to the number of times a user sees your page snippet on search results.
