Lin Wood is Suing to Get the $2 Million He Raised for Kyle Rittenhouse Back – HillReporter.com

Last summer, Kyle Rittenhouse showed up to a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin armed as if he was going into a war zone. The then 17 year-old ended up using his weapon to shoot 3 people, killing two of them.

The teen quickly became a celebrity in MAGA world. Ann Coulter went as far as saying that she though he should be president. And lawyer Lin Wood quickly stepped in to take on his case.

Wood, though, did not last long as the lawyer for Rittenhouse and the split between him and the family was acrimonious. The lawyer is now suing to recover the $2 million he raised to pay for bail.

A letter read by lawyer Xavier Solis read, The Rittenhouse bail was paid by #FightBack Foundation, a 501(c)(4) non-profit, from donations it received, Wood told Insider Thursday in an email. Under law, the bail monies must be returned to #FightBack.

An account connected to the Rittenhouse family tweeted, Money makes people do silly things. While were busting our humps trying to raise money and see Kyle acquitted, Lin Wood is sending letters to the court DURING Kyles hearing to demand $2M in donations FOR KYLE be given to HIM. Lin Woodkeeping it classy as always.

Bill Maher, Once Canceled by the Right, Takes Aim at the Left’s Cancel Culture – Newsweek

It was over before he knew it. Bill Maher, host of the hit show Politically Incorrect on ABC, was canceled by the network's parent company, Disney, with no real explanation back in June 2002. It wasn't the ratings. Maher's show was many thingsraw, outrageous, ridiculous, interesting and irritatingbut it was never boring. Indeed, it was an extremely entertaining show, and conversations happened on his set that didn't happen anywhere on television. For better or worse.

The idea of the show was simple: bring people from all walks of American life and culture togethersports, politics and entertainmentand let the guests go at it on the topics of the day. Better still, Maher worked hard to include diverse viewpoints too and regularly included up-and-coming conservative stars like Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham and others.

Disney, it turns out, handed Maher his death sentence for comments he made on his show on September 17, 2001. On the set that fateful and fatal night was conservative author Dinesh D'Souza, who responded to President George W. Bush's contention that the terrorists responsible for the carnage were "cowards." D'Souza disagreed. "One of the themes we hear constantly is that the people who did this are cowards," explained D'Souza. "Not true. You have a whole bunch of guys who were willing to give their life. None of 'em backed out. All of them slammed themselves into pieces of concrete."

Maher agreed with D'Souza's point, and what he said next unleashed the firestorm that would end his show. "We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away," Maher said. "That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the buildingsay what you want about it, it's not cowardly."

Maher's words were soon everywhere. It didn't help matters that they were taken out of context, as many punditsespecially in the conservative mediaimplied that he'd called our soldiers cowardly.

A contrite Maher issued an apology. "In no way was I intending to say, nor have I ever thought, that the men and women who defend our nation in uniform are anything but courageous and valiant, and I offer my apologies to anyone who took it wrong," he said in a statement.

His apology didn't change anyone's mind. Conservative media pushed for boycotts of his show's sponsors. Sears dropped the show, citing an outpouring of outrage from angry customers. FedEx and others joined the exodus.

Just months later, Maher was canceled, his career in tatters. And all over a comment he could have made differently, one he didn't plan. A comment that, if he'd made it a year later, would have passed unnoticed.

Worse, anyone who followed Maher's career knew how he felt about radical Islamists. Indeed, Maher has been one of the few voices in the mainstream media willing to differentiate between the majority of peaceful Muslims in the world and those with views so extreme that they're a danger not just to America and the Western world but to Muslims too. Especially in places like the Middle East, Far East and Africa.

None of that mattered to those Republicans after Maher's head. And it wasn't the conservative media alone that was leading the charge. These were the words from press secretary Ari Fleischer on September 26, responding to a question about Maher's comments by a reporter: "It's a terrible thing to say, and it was unfortunate. They're reminders to all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do. This is not a time for remarks like that; there never is."

Luckily for America, the appetite on the right to do such things sputtered out. Robust dissent over Bush's foreign policy didn't merely return; it came back with an intensity not seen since Vietnam. Some of that dissent came from the right.

For anyone watching Maher's recent attacks on the entrenched assault on free speech by the progressive left, his experience with boycotts and cancellations is worth telling. Because what's been consistent in Maher's old and new shows is his hatred of dogmatic extremism, including the religious variety. Maher's principles on this fundamental issue, it turns out, are more important to him than his political and partisan preferences. And more important even than adulation from his liberal brethren. It is, dare I say, a deeply principled stand.

On his HBO show, Real Time With Bill Maher, last week, he talked about the heat he's been taking from progressives for challenging the far left's nearly religious devotion to its orthodoxies and dogma. "To me, when people say to me sometimes, like, 'Boy, you know, you go after the left a lot these days. Why?' Because you're embarrassing me," he said.

Perhaps Maher's best monologue on the subject happened last spring during his "New Rules" segment on Real Time. It began with a graphic of the word progressophobia, a phrase Harvard anthropologist Steven Pinker made up to describe, as Maher noted, "a brain disorder that strikes liberals and makes them incapable of recognizing progress." Maher then ran through a litany of titanic cultural shifts in America to prove his point.

"Before 2012, gay marriage was put before state voters and lost 35 times in a row. Now, it's the law of the land in every state, and even half of Republicans are for it," he said. "That's progress, and acknowledging progress isn't saying we're done and we don't need more. And being gloomier doesn't make you a better person."

Maher then moved to the subject of race. "In 1958, only 4 percent of Americans approved of interracial marriage," he said. "Now, Gallup doesn't even bother asking. The last time they did, in 2013, 87 percent approved. That is a sea change from when I was a kid."

Maher then took aim at fellow comedian and Hollywood star Kevin Hart and something he told The New York Times. "You're witnessing white power and white privilege at an all-time high," Hart told the reporter about the current state of race relations in America.

"This is one of the big problems with wokeness," Maher countered, challenging Hart's claim. "What you say doesn't have to make sense or jibe with the facts, or ever be challenged, lest the challenge itself be conflated with racism."

Maher went on to prove the absurdity of Hart's claim. "But saying that white power and privilege is at an all-time high is just ridiculous. Higher than a century ago, the year of the Tulsa race massacre?" he asked rhetorically. "Higher than the years when the Ku Klux Klan rode unchecked and Jim Crow went unchallenged? Higher than the 1960s, when the Supremes and Willie Mays still couldn't stay in the same hotel as the white people they were working with?"

Maher then came in for the kill. "Racism is simply no longer everywhere. It's not in my home. It probably isn't in yours, if I read my audience right, and I think I do. For most of the country, the most unhip thing you could ever be today is a racist."

Maher pinned much of the blame on millennials, many of whom came of age during the rise of safe spaces and trigger warnings, and the educators who created and engendered such nonsense.

"We date human events with A.D. and B.C., but we need a third marker for millennials: B.Y. Before you," Maher joked. The studio audience, filled with young fans, erupted with applause.

Maher then closed his monologue with this parting thought about his country: "It's not a sinand it's certainly not inaccurateto say, We've come a long way, baby. Not mission accomplished. Just a long way."

Maher's monologue went viral, with conservatives cheering what they mistakenly believed was his move to the right. Progressive critics mistakenly believed he'd moved to the right because he was getting applause from Republicans.

What his critics on the left didn't understand is that many traditional liberal Democrats believe the same things. Indeed, a silent majority of Americans dislike the radical ideas being peddled by Marxist progressives (white privilege, critical race theory and radical wealth redistribution among them) but are afraid to speak up. And afraid because those same progressives who talk endlessly about inclusion use bullying tactics to stifle dissent. And cancellation to kill it.

Indeed, America's repulsion for the tactics of the cancel culture crosses generations. A poll conducted by Morning Consult revealed some startling numbers. "Overall, no one liked it," wrote Daniel Roman of the Association of Mature American Citizens. "The only group for whom more respondents viewed it positively (19%) or neutrally (22%) than negatively (36%) was millennials. Predictably, more members of Gen X (1965-1980) and Boomers (1946-64) viewed it negatively (46% for Gen X, 50% for Boomers) than positively or neutrally (29% for Gen X, 27% for Boomers)."

But the real shock, Roman reported, came from the generation born between 1997 and 2008: Generation Z. Only 8% of that cohort viewed cancel culture favorably, while 55% had a negative view.

The fact is, Maher is saying what a majority of Americans are thinking. Moreover, he is doing his best to protect liberalism from a far-left wing minority hell-bent on purging this country of honest and open debate about matters of race, inequality, justice and freedom.

More and more liberals and Democrats are starting to side with Maher on these points and openly challenge this left-wing brand of McCarthyism.

If only more liberals and Democratsincluding leaders in our public schools, universities and mediawould join him.

Convincing reasons to move your firm’s digital services to the cloud – The Yucatan Times

Over the last decade or so, cloud computing has completely transformed the IT sector and cloud service provision is now one of the fastest-growing areas in the entire computing and tech industry.

With more and more companies taking the leap and moving their digital and IT services to third-party cloud partners, the growth of cloud provision looks set to mushroom over the coming years but just what is cloud computing and how could it benefit your firm? Read on for a quick guide.

What is cloud computing? Before studying the benefits of moving to the cloud, it might be wise to first define what the cloud is and how cloud computing works. As a term, cloud computing refers to any computer services that are performed remotely and (mostly) delivered over the internet to subscribers. These services can encompass anything from storage to processing and running apps and are normally delivered on an ad-hoc, on-demand basis typically using a subscription model.

The benefits of cloud computing. In truth, the benefits of moving to cloud computing can vary tremendously from company to company. The scale and scope of the advantages youll gain from operating in the cloud will largely depend on how your company operates and the types of goods/services you provide. Nonetheless, as a general guide, working with a cloud provider can:

Reduce the cost of your IT services: Bottom line running an internal network doesnt come cheap. Between the costs of installing servers to making upgrades and general maintenance, the costs of IT can soon spiral out of control and make digital integration prohibitively expensive particularly for Small to Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) firms. By outsourcing your IT, youll offload these substantial overheads to your cloud provider plus get access to the latest, fastest tech.

Supercharge your existing tech: By definition, cloud computing relies on the power, storage and processing of remote machines meaning even the lowest-powered device can be transformed into a processing powerhouse. While you should still invest in kit thats fit for purpose (e.g. the best laptop you can afford plus other capable mobile devices), by drawing on remote power, youll be able to perform even highly complex tasks.

Benefit from a truly mobile workforce: The recent coronavirus pandemic overhauled many areas of life and society not least of which was the requirement for home working imposed by lockdown and isolation measures. While we all hope the worst of the virus is now behind us, most industry and employment experts suggest its highly unlikely the previous Mon-Fri, 9-5 fixed hours ethos will ever return. Indeed, most analysts agree employees in the future will demand greater flexibility in terms of how and where they work. If you want to embrace mobile working, there is no better solution than to integrate the cloud into your operations and allow your workforce to go fully mobile.

24/7/365 security and support: If youre running your own network and something goes wrong, its pretty much down to you to fix it. With a cloud services company, youll benefit from the considerable peace of mind that comes from knowing youve got a professional team of specialists to look after any problems.

Lack of Cloud Computing Cost Optimization is Wasting $24B a Year – ITPro Today

Organizations around the world are not properly optimizing cloud spend to the tune of $24B in missed savings, according to new research from S&P Global Market Intelligence's 451 Research.

There are myriad options for organizations in terms of different options for cloud resources, with some being more expensive than others. Of note, the report found that 36% of organizations are paying for cloud resources at on-demand rates, as opposed to other cost effective options that are less expensive, such as reserved instance pricing.

"The fact that over 1 in 3 enterprises we surveyed are only using on-demand resources is amazing," Owen Rogers, Research Director, S&P Global Market Intelligences 451 Research, told ITProToday. "Even if these companies are only using relatively small amounts of cloud, huge savings can be made by making even a small level of commitment."

Rogers noted that paying for on-demand cloud resources isn't always a bad option. He explained that the benefit of cloud is that organizations still have the freedom to use on-demand consumption when they need to, but they can commit for the capacity they know theyre going to use.

Another key finding from the report is the fact that organizations can achieve savings by embracing a multi-cloud approach.

According to the report, only 17% of organizations are currently using hybrid or multi-cloud approaches to mix providers to deliver the same application. According to Rogers, by using a multi-cloud approach for an application, it is possible for an organization to optimize costs.

Rogers explained that the Cloud Price Index is a benchmark price of the average cost of an application specification based on cloud provider prices and market share. He noted that it is possible to determine the minimum cost, that is how much would the application cost if the user chose the cheapest provider for each component of the application. By mixing and matching application components and resources across a multi-cloud deployment, there can be significant savings. According to the report, globally $24B could be saved if the multi-cloud approach was fully embraced.

"The $24B comes from how much could buyers save if they moved from the average cost of a single provider to the lowest cost by mixing providers," Rogers said.

Improving cloud cost optimization isn't just about reducing costs.

Rogers noted that cloud costs go up for two reasons either organizations are consuming more resources to deliver business value, or they are accidentally consuming more because of poor governance. He emphasized that if cloud costs are growing to improve business value , that isnt necessarily a problem, because if the organization is getting more revenue as a result then the additional cost of cloud doesnt really matter.

"Lots of companies I talk to still havent got their head around the fact that increasing cloud spend isnt necessarily a bad thing, in fact it might be a positive because its enabling business value but governance is needed to make sure money isnt being thrown away," he said

Cyberattacks, information blackouts, and framework failures are a vital part of maintaining a business nowadays. Most organizations have managed their servers crashing, prompting the loss of important information documents. To guarantee such issues dont harm the association and its processes, reinforcement and disaster recovery have turned into a trending use instance of the cloud.

A serverless design eliminates all hindrances that a standard IT foundation would typically bring. Clients dont need to buy or lease the servers that they run their information on. All things being equal, a third party will deal with everything for you, permitting your association to handle different errands. The benefits of a serverless design are plenty- easy operational management, no system administration, reduced liability, and more.

Information robbery, spillage, and deletion- security is a major challenge even for conventional IT foundations. Cloud security is not just a trend in cloud computing this year, its a need that is focused on by each association. By 2022, essentially 95% of cloud security failures will be the clients shortcoming.

With a hyper-associated world, one of the most famous cloud computing trends is the ascent of IoT platforms. A study shows that the number of associated things being used will be going up to 25 billion by 2021 from 14.2 billion starting in 2019. An IoT platform is a cloud-empowering platform that works with standard gadgets to empower cloud-based applications and administrations concerning it. IoT capacities as a go-between, gathering information from various gadgets with a distant gadget setup and smart device management.

It is a technique for enhancing distributed computing network framework by performing information preparation at the edge of the organization, close to the wellspring of the information. It works constantly on the cloud workers to deal with less time-delicate information or store information as long as possible.

That implies with the proceeded combination of IT and telco, 2019 will bring edge figuring at the cutting edge, creating a huge array of new opportunities for associations to utilize new advances and computing power.

With an open-source innovation platform, organizations can see various advantages. They can rapidly scale their cloud framework, adding highlights is a lot less difficult than with a shut source stage, and there are fewer security concerns.

The tech business is moving to a shared workplace and settling on an open-source distributed computing administration is by all accounts the correct course for new businesses or ones that are scaling. Kathryn Guarini is the CIO of multinational tech giant IBM. Big Blue has been switching its focus to AI and cloud services in recent months, following the news that it is set to undergo a major restructuring.

Guarini and her team are responsible for developing, deploying and transforming the companys internal IT including hardware, software and services across more than 170 countries.

Her tenure at IBM spans more than two decades. Prior to being named CIO earlier this year, she was COO of IBM Research and vice-president for Impact Science, a research team within IBM that sought to apply deep technical expertise to the most pressing global challenges facing society while advancing the underlying science.

Guarini told Siliconrepublic.com that her CIO team supports every part of the business including digital workplace services, as well as thousands of business applications used by professionals in HR, sales, marketing, finance and more.

The recent rise in sophisticated cyberattacks requires us to take innovative approaches to secure the enterprise KATHRYN GUARINI

There are many major IT initiatives that we are focused on at IBM. Let me highlight three here.

First, Kyndryl. My team is playing a key role in supporting the separation of IBMs managed infrastructure business into an independent market-leading company called Kyndryl. IT plays a critical role in ensuring Kyndryl is set up for success with robust and secure infrastructure and applications, segmented to protect data and configured to run each business.

Second, hybrid cloud. We are adopting hybrid cloud at scale in IBM. That means we are moving IBMs internal IT workload from legacy data centres into public and private cloud environments to get the benefits of hybrid cloud from faster deployments to better availability to improved sustainability. Hybrid cloud offers a unified experience with end-to-end security and observability, harnessing the power of the open community.

Third, AI. AI is critical for business agility, resilience and growth. We are applying AI to automate business processes, modernise applications, predict outcomes and secure everything. As one example, we have applied AI to personalise and automate the IT support experience for IBMers, with AI-powered voice response, chat and search that improve the user experience.

Our CIO team is made up of more than 10,000 IBMers with a wide range of technical skills and expertise required to architect, develop, modernise and run IBMs internal IT systems. Our global team is organised into empowered agile squads doing iterative development in support of specific business solutions.

We partner with IBMs businesses, who simultaneously serve as stakeholders for our IT delivery and providers of differentiating technology and services that we adopt on behalf of IBM.

We recognise that building, fostering and advancing a pipeline of diverse talent is key to our long-term success. Weve made focused investments in critical skills that enable transformation, including software development, design, AI, automation, cloud computing, cybersecurity and software-defined networking.

We also have domain expertise in areas like human resources, sales, marketing and finance to help us better serve the IBM company and improve the employee experience.

Like most enterprises, IBM is on its own digital transformation journey, leveraging technologies like hybrid cloud and AI to unlock new business value and accelerate innovation. Hybrid cloud is the foundation of our cognitive enterprise. AI helps make better decisions, automate tasks, streamline processes and enable self-service across the enterprise.

Our CIO team is responsible for modernising our infrastructure and application environment and redesigning our business architecture into end-to-end intelligent workflows.

For example, we have transformed IBMs sales processes, launching a new solution that offers simplification and insight. The solution involved consolidating more than 160 different sales tools into one scalable, global platform to optimise IBMs relationship with our customers.

In another example, we transformed IBMs global client support process, providing improved experience, operational efficiency and AI-driven insights.

Ive already talked about how hybrid cloud and AI are hugely important technologies today to drive business transformation. Were using both to enable intelligent operations, modernise applications and automate insights.

Whats next? Quantum computing will become an important part of the IT landscape, offering competitive advantage to those who can capitalise on the unique capabilities of this new computing paradigm.

Quantum is maturing quickly, with rapid advances in the technology, software ecosystem and use cases across industries. Along with quantum computing comes advanced quantum-safe cryptography solutions that enable encryption that even large-scale fault tolerant quantum computers cant crack.

Theres a tremendous amount of technology innovation happening here that promises to have outsized impact on our industry and the world.

Cybersecurity is a business imperative and the recent rise in sophisticated cyberattacks requires us to take innovative approaches to secure the enterprise.

We have adopted a zero-trust framework, which includes advanced identity protection, vulnerability management and threat detection.

We are adopting security-by-design approaches in the development of our IT solutions to ensure they are foundationally secure against growing threats. And we are adopting IBMs confidential computing technologies to protect sensitive data at all times.

When you think of cybersecurity, you probably think of your IT team or highly specialized Infosec professionals, not yourself as a CEO. However, the reality today is that cybersecurity absolutely has to be front and center for C-level execs, and that failure to make it your issue brings substantial risk to your organization. To set your company up for success, its best to take the attitude of full personal responsibility for your cloud security setup and operation.

Probably the biggest reason cybersecurity needs to be elevated to one of your top responsibilities is simply that, as the CEO, you call most of the shots surrounding how the business is going to operate. To lead anyone else, you have to have a crystal-clear big picture of how everything interconnects and what ramifications threats inone area haveto other areas. Additionally, its up to you to hire and oversee people who truly understand servers and cloud security and who can build a secure infrastructure and applications.

That said, virtually all businesses today are digital businesses in some sense, if that means having a website, an app, processing credit cards with point of sale readersor using the net for your social media marketing. All of these things can be potential points of entry for hackers, who happily take advantage of any vulnerability they can find. And with more people working remotely and generally enjoying a more mobile lifestyle, the risks of cloud computing are here to stay.

Put another way, the more we transition to digital, the bigger the attack surface for cyber criminals. Thats why data breaches and cyber attacks are happening withincreasing frequency. Those breaches can have a huge financial implication for your company, and its only getting more expensive. The total expense to recover from a typical ransomware attack, for instance, was $761,000 in 2020. In just a year, that cost more than doubled to an average of $1.8 million, according to a report from cybersecurity firm Sophos. The damage to your organizations reputation can be even worse and linger for years after youre back in the black.

This is why you as a CEO cannot afford to be digitally illiterate. Right from the get-go, you need to be cognizant of cloud risks, take a firm not on my watch stanceand have the perspective of security by design. For example, is your architecture designed properly? Do you have enough expert people to maintain your systems? Are you complying with current guidelines or regulations? Thats all ultimately under your purview.

One of the biggest requirements to protect your business in the digital age is to learn the language of the industry. That doesnt mean just the latest lingo. It means understanding whats trending in terms of how cloud architecture works, the pitfalls of different approachesand different types of technologies people are utilizing. And with Amazon being such a huge commercial player, it means staying on top of whats going on with Amazon Web Services, too.

Secondly, rethink your organizational structure in terms of your technology and security. In the past, it made sense to have your CISO report to your CFO. But that approach doesnt work with the line of thinking that, today, IT security is the CEOs responsibility. Switch gears and have your CISO report directly to you so its easier to stay up to date, learnand make pivots. Because security is such a large part of the organization now, it makes a lot of sense to spend that personal time with the CISO, building trust and making sure theyre keeping everything both as secure and efficient as possible.
