Feedback expands its cloud-based tuberculosis programme in rural India – Digital Health

Feedback has received funding from Amazon Web Services to support the expansion of its cloud-based tuberculosis screening programme for rural communities in India.

The company has been awarded funding through the AWS Diagnostic Development Initiative which will enable it to push x-ray images from screenings in rural communities straight to the cloud for processing by clinical and artificial intelligence (AI) partners.

It means even the most remote communities can still participate in screening programmes, with rapid, point-of-care diagnostics delivering results while the patient is still in attendance at the clinic.

Dr Tom Oakley, CEO of Feedback, said: We are delighted to have AWS as a partner in our TB screening programme. This funding support will enable us to establish and subsequently scale the TB screening solution to citizens in rural locations across India.

It is a key public health priority and a challenge of enormous proportions. To have AWS support and backing will make all the difference in getting this out to the citizens who need it.

Bleepa Box from Feedback will host the solution on AWS Cloud, and the funding received will cover the initial hosting costs of a pilot of the cloud-based tuberculosis screening solution.

An imaging pathway will ensure that x-rays can be transmitted even without networked connectivity, thanks to Bleepas cloud-hosted infrastructure.

Once the Feedback technology has pushed an x-ray to Bleepa via a mobile network, Bleepa will then share it with a specialist clinician or suitable AI tool. Within minutes a diagnosis can be made, and advice shared where necessary.

Bleepas patient-specific chat feature will connect directly to the screening personnel so that treatment can be initiated while the patient is still in the clinic. All reports, information and images are stored in CareLocker, which will enable the creation of citizen health records in line with the Indian governments National Digital Health Mission record.

Maggie Carter, global lead, social Impact at AWS, added: Cloud-powered diagnostic tools are critical in the fight against turberculosis and other infectious diseases. Over the last year, AWS has seen inspirational results from the Diagnostic Development Initiative. We look forward to helping Bleepa and other organisations worldwide use the cloud to mitigate current and future infectious disease outbreaks.

Closer to home Sussex Integrated Care System piloted the use of Bleepa and CareLocker to enable patient specific pathways through Community Diagnostic Centres. While The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust signed a one-year deal with Feedback in April this year to roll out Bleepa as part of its wider communication strategy.

Report: IT infrastructure expected to remain stable for next few years – VentureBeat

Hear from CIOs, CTOs, and other C-level and senior execs on data and AI strategies at the Future of Work Summit this January 12, 2022. Learn more

According to a recent report by Rackspace Technology and Google Cloud, infrastructure spread has reached an equilibrium, and IT leaders expect this spread to hold steady over the next three to five years. More than two-thirds of compute are now supported by public cloud, colocation and managed hosting services. We live in a world where the majority of apps and data exist outside of the corporate datacenter.

More than half of respondents (51%) indicated that they have already moved all their applicable infrastructure into the cloud, while the remaining (49%) said they plan to move their workloads into the cloud as much as possible. Not one of the over 1,400 respondents stated they would keep all of their infrastructure on premises forever.

One likely reason for the leveling out of infrastructure is that cloud adoption has now reached maturity in many markets, with companies planning to increase their investments in IT infrastructure across the board. More than 50% of respondents expect to invest more for all hosting types except colocation. Translation: Theyve left their datacenter and are buying more cloud. Only 20%-25% of respondents expect their investment in IT infrastructure to decrease in the future.

Security (53%), data privacy (47%), and control (41%) remain as top concerns among IT leaders, particularly for public cloud use cases. These concerns present valid obstacles to getting more companies to fully reap the benefits of cloud adoption. Companies that focus their resources on successfully addressing security and data privacy concerns while innovating with the cloud can expect to achieve a significant competitive advantage.

Rackspace Technology, in association with Google Cloud, surveyed 1,400+ global IT decision makers across manufacturing, technology, financial services, retail, government, and health care sectors.

How to install Nextcloud Hub II with Nextcloud Office – TechRepublic

Nextcloud Hub II is here, and it's a big improvement over previous iterations. Jack Wallen walks you through the process of installing this new release on Ubuntu Server.

Image: Jack Wallen

Nextcloud 23 brings a major overhaul to the platform and introduces Nextcloud Office and plenty of other features and fixes to make it an outstanding choice for anyone looking to host a full-fledged cloud service in-house (in your data center, your cloud-hosted provider or even on a server in your home).

The new features include:

This might be one of the more significant updates to come from the Nextcloud developers.

I'll walk you through the process of installing Nextcloud 23 (aka Nextcloud Hub II) on Ubuntu Server 21.10.

SEE: Checklist: How to manage your backups (TechRepublic Premium)

To successfully install Nextcloud 23, you'll need a running instance of Ubuntu Server (preferably either 20.04 or newer) and a user with sudo privileges. That's it; let's make some magic.

The first thing we'll do is install our web and database servers. Log into Ubuntu and run the installation of everything necessary with the command:

Once the above command completes, start and enable the services with the commands:

Next, we'll install the remaining dependencies with the command:

Before we create the database, let's secure the MySQL installation with the command:

Make sure to give the MySQL admin users a strong/unique password and answer y to the remaining questions.

Log in to the MySQL console with the command:

Create a new database with:

Create the Nextcloud database user with the command:

Where PASSWORD is a unique/strong password.

Give the nextcloud user the necessary permissions with the command:

Flush the privileges and exit the console with the two commands:

Download Nextcloud 23 with the command:

Unzip the downloaded package with:

Move the newly created file to the Apache document root with:

Give the newly relocated folder the proper ownership with:

Create a new Apache .conf file with the command:

In that file, paste the following:

Enable the necessary Apache modules:

Enable the new Nextcloud site with:

Change the PHP memory limit:

Restart Apache with:

Open a web browser that has access to the same network that hosts the new Nextcloud server and point it to http://SERVER/nextcloud (Where SERVER is the IP address or domain name of the hosting server). In the resulting page (Figure A), make sure to create a new admin user and the, in the database section, fill it out as such:

Figure A

The Nextcloud 23 web installation is ready to complete the setup.

Since the database is being hosted on the same server, leave the location set to localhost. Leave the box checked for Installed recommended apps and click Finish setup. When the installation completes, you'll be automatically logged into the site as the admin user.

Upon finishing up the installation, I was surprised to find no sign of the Nextcloud Office feature. Creating a new file in the Files application only gives you the option to create a text file. I've reached out to the developers to find out if there is an issue or some other step that must be taken to enable the Nextcloud Office feature (because it is not obvious in either the Apps or the Settings windows).

My contact with Nextcloud informed me the installation should have installed Collabora and the Nextcloud connector by default. The problem is the Collabora download is fairly large, so the max_upload file size limit for PHP must be increased significantly. To make this work, you could always increase that option to 1GB for the installation and then shrink it back down to a more reasonable limit once the installation completes. If you don't want to bother with that, those pieces can be added from the Nextcloud App Market, so make sure to install Collabora Online and Collabora Online Built-in CODE Server from the App store. Once you've installed both of those apps, you should be able to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations in Nextcloud.

Samsara IPO: 5 things about the cloud-based operations company – MarketWatch

Samsara Inc. said Wednesday its initial public offering priced at $23 a share and will start trading later in the day as it hopes to grab a share of an estimated $55 billion market to digitize the operations of non-tech companies.

The stock will trade under the ticker IOT on the New York Stock Exchange. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Allen & Co. were lead underwriters in a syndicate of 16 banks working on the deal.

Last week, the company estimated pricing its shares between $20 and $23 apiece.

Founded in 2015, Samsara IOT offers a cloud-based platform that allows businesses to use Internet-of-Things connected devices that can range from video cameras to data-collecting equipment to help run operations. Here are five things to look for:

Unlike retail, advertising, media, and information technology, which have already undergone digital transformation, industries with physical operations are still in the early stages of digital adoption, the company said in its S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company estimates a total addressable market of about $54.6 billion by the end of 2021, and $96.9 billion by the end of 2024.

Just for telematics alone or monitoring cars and trucks and other mobile equipment Samsara estimates a market opportunity of $32.9 billion market in 2021, and $63.7billion in 2024, based on Gartner estimates.

The company cited operational efficiencies from using their platform from a large freight carrier, a large city government, a waste transportation company, and a crane, rigging and heavy transport company.

While connected devices are now everywhere in our personal lives, it may surprise you to learn how much pen-and-paper is still being used in the industries that keep our planet running, said co-founder John Bicket and Sanjit Biswas, co-founderand chief executive, in a founders letter in the filing.

The possibilities are practically endless: we estimate that the industries we serve account for over a third of the global economy, and its easy to imagine a future when every asset has a chip in it and is connected to the cloud, they said.

Samsara reported annual recurring revenue, or ARR, of $492.8 million as of Oct. 30, compared with $293.1 million in the year previous. ARR is a metric often used by software-as-a-service companies to show how much revenue the company can expect based on subscriptions.

That comes from 13,000 core customers, which account for $5,000 or more ARR, as of Oct. 30. More importantly, Samsara said that the number of its customers that pay more than $100,000 for its services surged 83% to 715 compared with 390 a year ago.

The company reported annual revenue of $249.9 million for a loss of $210.2 million for the fiscal year ending Jan. 30, 2021, compared with $119.9 million and a loss of $225.2 million in the previous year.

So far, for the nine months ending Oct. 30, Samsara reported revenue of $302.6million for a loss of $102.3million, compared with $174million in revenue and a loss of $174million .

Samsara said in its filing that expected proceeds of about $819.9 million will go to generic things like operations and to create a public market for its stock, but a significant chunk of the IPO money is going to settle restricted stock units.

Specifically, about $124.2 million in proceeds will go to a restricted stock unit settlement based on a midpoint pricing estimate of $21.50 a share. The settlement involves anticipated tax withholding and remittance obligations and an assumed 33.6% tax withholding rate, the company said.

Samsara said no specific company competes toe-to-toe with its connected operations cloud suite.

Vendors like Verizon Communications Inc.s VZ, +0.80% Verizon Connect and Geotab offer driver management and GPS tracking tools, and Motorola Solutions Inc.s MSI, -1.01% Avigilon specializes in video analytics, AI, and network video management software.

Samsara, however, also lists Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, +0.68% as a potential rival and that could spell trouble.

For example, we rely upon Amazon for AWS web hosting and we do not currently have an alternative provider, Samsara said in the filing. If Amazon decided to compete with us and did not allow us to renew our commercial agreement, this may have a significant impact on our solution and would require that we allocate time and expense to setting up our Connected Operations Cloud on an alternative hosting service.

The offering is for shares of our ClassA stock, which get one vote per share, unlike ClassB shares that get 10 votes per share.

Many IPOs of late have had early backers of the company commanding a majority stake in the company, and therefore, majority voting power. Thats not the case with Samsara.

The company raised $930 million in funding prior to the IPO, according to Crunchbase data. Of those early investors, Andreessen Horowitz will have 17.5% of the votes after the offering, while General Catalyst has 9.7% of the votes.

On the other hand CEO Biswas will retain 24.8% of the votes, while co-founder Bicket retains 24.3%.

You no longer need fancy new hardware to run Windows 11 – here’s why – Techradar

Microsoft has announced that cloud-based PCs running Windows 11 are now available to all users of Windows 365, its new virtualization service.

In October at its annual Ignite conference, the company opened up virtual Windows 11 PCs to Windows 365 Enterprise customers (with more than 300 deployments). In a new blog post, however, Microsoft confirmed that Windows 365 Business customers can now spin up Windows 11 desktops too.

Microsoft explained that devices hosting cloud PCs will not be required to adhere to the strict Windows 11 system requirements, which will be fulfilled instead by a virtual TPM (vTPM) chip built into Windows 365 itself.

Windows 11 is now supported across all virtual desktop configurations with at least 2 vCPUs and 4GB of RAM, of which there are eleven in total. The cheapest - with 2 vCPUs, 4GB RAM and 64GB cloud storage - is available for $28.00/23.90 per month and could be a viable option for a small business (or even an individual) reluctant to splash out on new hardware immediately.

Microsoft first unveiled Windows 365 in the summer, promising customers a new way to experience Windows 10 or Windows 11.

The virtualization service allows users to stream a Windows desktop to any of their devices and from any location, effectively turning the host device into a thin client. Instead of hosting the operating system and applications locally, using up both storage and compute, Windows 365 lets users stream their apps, data and settings to any of their devices - including those ru8nning macOS, Linux and Android.

According to Microsoft, the service opens up a host of new opportunities for businesses, from a cost, administration and productivity perspective. And while no consumer-focused use cases have been announced, we wouldnt be surprised if something is in the pipeline.

Although Windows 365 didnt support Windows 11 cloud PCs at launch, customers will now be able to take advantage of the upgrades on offer with the new Microsoft OS, as well as the flexibility afforded by the PC-as-a-service model.

In addition to provisioning brand new Windows 11 cloud PCs, administrators can also upgrade existing Windows 10-based deployments by changing the gallery image in Microsoft Endpoint Manager and triggering a reprovision.

To check whether existing cloud PC deployments are compatible with Windows 11, administrators can consult the Work from anywhere dashboard in Endpoint Analytics.

For companies confused by Microsoft's messaging around Windows 11 system requirements, or without the budget for an overhaul of employee hardware, Windows 365 could prove the ideal option.

Navigate Your Holiday Parties in a Cloud of Cannabis – Willamette Week

Traditional holiday parties can be stiff. Your best-case scenario involves stodgy eggnog cocktails, questionable Yankee swaps and a scratchy mishmash of enthusiastically themed, purposefully homely sweaters. Now, Im not one to shade festivities, but I will say this: If weed isnt a part of your grown folks holiday party plan, it aint much of a plan.

Doughy cookies, cheap gifts, and amiably themed attire all have their place in the holiday party ecosphere, but consider offering your party guests a bit of uplifting intoxication that wont leave them with daybreak delirium tremensespecially if your guests are exploring cannabis as newcomers or hoping to avoid a hungover morning after.

This year, whether youre hosting or attending a holiday soiree, consider showing up or showing out with one (or all) of these cleverly infused drinkables, deftly constructed novelties, and party-ready canna products. Because aint nobody got time for antiquated obligation energy when they could be operating on best-Xmas-party-ever vibes.

Luminous Botanicals Sun Syrup: For Good Natured, High Tolerance Punch Spiking

The newest addition to Luminous Botanicals tincture lineup is a powerfully potent, water-soluble syrup that flows like thinned molasses, smacks of lemon-drizzled honey, and can seamlessly synthesize into liquid without altering the beverages texture. The flavor profile feels uniquely seasonal and would marry well with mulled apple cider, hot sugarplum tea or even frothy hot chocolate, but the honey-sweet essence also makes this 1,000 mg tincture a universally useful flavor addition. Plus, whatevers left post-party can be stashed in the back of the fridge and used to level up future lemonades, sweet teas or iced coffees.

Magic Number Seltzer: For a Magic Wet Bar Mixer or Cali Sober Mocktails

Magic Numbers seltzers are available in two doses25 and 50 mgand four flavors: berry, lime, tonic and passionfruit. These 12-ounce cans can be easily parsed out as mixers for a few guests or sipped as a standalone drink by higher-tolerance users. Personally, I appreciate these as a substitution for not just celebratory booze but also smoking for folks whod rather avoid inhalation. And as alternative consumption methods go, this is a super-smooth way to both loosen up both your varsity stoner pals and introduce your LeCroix-loving buddies to the wonders of drinkable weed.

Just the Tip: For Safe, Low-Key Joint Sharing

A line of hand-blown, wearable glass mouthpieces, Just the Tip joint holders act as joint extenders and one-hitters, and are subtly elegant enough to accompany your best holiday pothead couture. Primarily, this gold-plated chain keeps its users tender mouth flesh from absorbing stranger danger, passed from a new acquaintances soggy pre-rollwhich, during this particular epoch, is a total party necessity. But party practicality aside, each piece is inarguably sumptuous addition to any social joint smokers party repertoire, especially if they like to match their smoke accessories to their special event fits.

Stndenglass Kompact: For the Life of the Party

Earlier this year, we reviewed the Stndenglass, a kinetic gravity bong that (while super-fun to use) was more of a novelty than inclusive party favor. The Stndenglass Kompact however, is another vibe entirely. Structured in the same manner as the original Stndenglassa dual-chambered cylinder that rotates to draw and expel smoke for a contact-free hitthis model is smaller and more manageable. Plus, it comes with a party-ready carrying case. Though the original model is far more extravagant in terms of size, weight and heft of hits produced, the Kompact functions impeccably for both groups of smokers and single users, producing thick, milk-glass opaque hits that wont go stale before the chambers had a chance to empty.
