No One Opens Schrdinger’s Cat’s Box: Why Doesn’t the Universe Behave Like Quantum Particles? – LBV Magazine

A new study in quantum cosmology proposes an innovative approach to address one of the oldest puzzles in physics: the transition from quantum to classical. This transition is crucial for understanding how our universe, full of well-defined stars and galaxies, emerged from a primitive quantum state where things could be in multiple states at once.

The studys researchers point out that the classical decoherence model, which explains how a quantum system can lose its quantum nature due to interactions with its environment, is not sufficient for the universe. Since the universe doesnt have an external observer to trigger this transition, we must seek other mechanisms that allow quantum probabilities to collapse into a defined reality.

To understand the paradox of quantum superposition, the famous thought experiment of Schrdingers cat is often mentioned. Imagine a cat in a box with a device that can release poison if a radioactive atom decays. Until the box is opened, the cat is both alive and dead, depending on whether the atom has decayed. This phenomenon of quantum superposition illustrates the peculiarity of quantum mechanics: things can exist in multiple states at once until they are observed or measured.

In the universe, however, no one opens the box. So, how do we go from a state of multiple possibilities to a universe where things are solid and predictable?

Scientists propose a new model called spontaneous wave function collapse. This model suggests that quantum probabilities collapse on their own without the need for an external observer. Its as if Schrdingers cat decides for itself whether it is alive or dead, without anyone opening the box to check.

The study shows that spontaneous collapse can be applied to general relativity models, where the universe is seen as evolving spacetime. From a quantum superposition of different spacetime geometries, spontaneous collapse can select a single well-defined geometry. This might explain how the universe transformed from a chaotic and quantum state into something classical and tangible.

Additionally, this idea might offer a solution to the cosmological constant problem, which is the dark energy that seems to drive the universes accelerated expansion. Instead of relying on complex multiverse theories or anthropic principles, spontaneous collapse suggests that the cosmological constant emerges as a result of the collapse of a superposition of different possible values.

The authors of the study point out that this approach isnt limited to a specific model but can be applied to other contexts in quantum cosmology. While it doesnt completely solve the problem of time in quantum gravity, it provides a promising framework for exploring the universe and its origins.

CertiK Passed Audit of Bitcoin Sidechain MicrovisionChain’s UTXO Smart Contracts – AccessWire

MACAU, CHINA / ACCESSWIRE / April 27, 2024 / On 22 April 2024, CertiK, a leading blockchain security audit firm, passed its audit of MicrovisionChain (MVC), marking a significant milestone as the first UTXO model-based solution to complete an audit in the industry. MVC, also known by its token symbol SPACE, features the same architecture and Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism as Bitcoin. It expands Bitcoin's functionality by incorporating Turing-complete smart contracts and enabling decentralized applications through the UTXO model. The successful audit by CertiK underscores MicrovisionChain's dedication to upholding high standards of contract security and reliability, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Extensive MVC Audit: Security, Code Quality, Logic, Interactions, and Compliance

CertiK conducted a security assessment on the MVC project, which included the following key components:

Token-core: The smart contracts related to the token economy, including the genesis contract for minting fungible tokens and the logic for additional mint features.

NFT-core: The smart contracts pertaining to non-fungible tokens (NFTs), including the structure for NFT unlocking scripts, NFT insurance, and NFT transfer mechanisms.

Mvcdao-core: The contracts associated with the MVC-DAO, which includes the main entry contract and operation contracts for the voting system, stake management, and other governance functionalities.

The audit covered a comprehensive examination using manual review and static analysis techniques, focusing on:

1.Testing smart contracts against common and uncommon attack vectors.

2.Assessing codebase compliance with best practices and industry standards.

3.Ensuring contract logic aligns with client specifications.

4.Cross-referencing contract structures against industry leaders' smart contracts.

5.Thorough line-by-line manual review by industry experts.

Specific areas of focus within the audit included centralization risks, logical issues, denial of service vulnerabilities, design issues, and checksum calculations for the files in the codebase. The audit also provided recommendations for enhancing security and transparency, such as implementing timelocks, multi-signature wallets, and DAO governance structures.

Audit Approach: Static, Dynamic Analysis, and Beyond

CertiK's audit of the MVC project involved a meticulous examination that integrated both manual review and static analysis techniques. The process included a line-by-line code inspection by industry experts, automated scanning for common vulnerabilities, testing against a spectrum of attack vectors, ensuring adherence to industry best practices, and verifying that contract logic conformed to the client's specifications. The audit also entailed a comparison of the contract structures with those of industry leaders and provided detailed recommendations to address discovered issues. Special consideration was given to centralization risks, and the audit report included a thorough examination of the codebase with specific file checksums, identified commits, and a disclaimer about the report's purpose and limitations. The goal was to enhance the security and quality of the MVC project, offering constructive feedback for continuous improvement.

Securing MVC's Blockchain Project through CertiK Audit

MVC might choose to engage with CertiK for a variety of reasons, primarily focused on bolstering the security and integrity of their blockchain project. By undergoing a security audit and verification process provided by CertiK, MVC can ensure that their smart contracts are robust against vulnerabilities, thereby building trust and credibility with investors and users. This collaboration can also serve to mitigate risks, meet compliance standards, secure necessary insurance coverage, and differentiate MVC in a competitive market. Moreover, it can signify a commitment to continuous improvement, community engagement, and adherence to best practices within the blockchain industry.

MVC's Big Picture: Launching the Proof of Build Program

Looking ahead, MicrovisionChain is set to launch its Proof of Build program, aiming to attract developers within the Bitcoin ecosystem to collaboratively expand and enhance the platform. This initiative will focus on fostering a community of developers committed to building and refining the capabilities of the Bitcoin sidechain.

MVC has recently launched an asset bridge that is interoperable with Bitcoin. This new feature can be accessed via the link provided: https://app.orders.exchange/bridge. The asset bridge addresses the issue of transaction congestion within the Bitcoin ecosystem, which includes BRC20 tokens, Runes, and other assets. Jason Kwok, co-founder and COO of MicrovisionChain, commented on their strategic plans: "We are actively planning to collaborate with renowned custodial institutions and execute strategic campaigns to achieve higher Total Value Locked (TVL) targets. These efforts are crucial as we aim to expand our reach and solidify our platform's position in the digital asset ecosystem."

In closing, it's significant to observe the dramatic increase in SPACE's address base, skyrocketing from 30,000 to 400,000 in just two months. This rapid growth not only reflects the escalating market interest but also positions MVC to become one of the most watched projects within the Bitcoin ecosystem, showcasing its potential to lead the way in innovation and security.

Wallets linked to Coinbase and Vitalik Buterin have millions ‘stuck’ in bridge contracts – Cointelegraph

Dozens of crypto whale wallets with assets ranging from six to seven figures are stuck on multiple decentralized finance (DeFi) bridge contracts.

One of these whale wallets is linked to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who has over $1 million worth of assets stuck for over seven months, with other wallets having assets unclaimed for over two years.

According to a report published by crypto analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, several notable whale addresses linked to prominent crypto individuals and entities have their funds stuck in the bridge contracts for as long as two years.

DeFi bridge contracts are software protocols that allow the movement of assets and data between different blockchain networks, enabling interoperability within the DeFi ecosystem.

However, not all DeFi bridges function the same. On the one hand, cross-chain bridges enable users to automatically obtain their assets on the other chain.

On the other hand, traders using native bridges must retrieve their funds manually as there is no way for the smart contract to remind users to do so, which could result in situations where users forget their money.

One wallet linkedto thomasg.eth has had $800,000 stuck in Arbitrum Bridge for one year and 10 months. Another wallet, linked to Bofur Capital, with 27 wrapped Bitcoin worth $1.8 million, has been stuck for two years and three months.

Similarly, another wallet linked to nonfungible token (NFT) user Mike Macdonald has about $117,000 in assets linked to CryptoPunks sales stuck on a bridge contract.

Arkham suggested the account owner take a look, reminding them that if they own the account that sent 5 CryptoPunks to, then you might also own the account that received the proceeds after they were sold.

Another wallet that received 50 Ether (ETH) from Vitalik.eth seems to have been forgotten for seven months despite holding nearly $1 million worth of ETH on the Optimism bridge.

Another linked to Coinbase crypto exchange was also identified and contains $75,000 worth of assets stuck for nearly six months.

Arkham suspects Coinbase tried bridging $75,000 worth of USD Coin (USDC) to ETH and forgot about it. The assets are stuckin the Optimism bridge contract and waiting to be claimed.

Arkham notified whales linked to the stuck and forgotten funds to retrieve them in case they had forgotten about them. It also reminded the community that these instances can occur due to the nature of cross-chain bridges.

Vitalik Buterin Launches Binius to Enhance Blockchain – Crypto Times

Vitalik Buterin recently introduced a new proof technology called Binius, which utilizes binary fields and aims to improve the efficiency of zero-knowledge proofs within blockchain applications. Binius is a departure from the existing SNARK and STARK technologies introduced years ago.

Earlier, Buterin sparked curiosity and confusion within the blockchain space with his initial presentation of nonsensical equations. However, this was later clarified as a creative approach to introduce Binius. This new system doesnt change basic math but uses known concepts, like binary fields, in new ways to improve cryptographic methods.

Explaining the advantages, Buterin highlighted how smaller fields could lead to more efficient proof generation, citing the unique properties of binary fields. Binius aims to lighten computing loads and quicken transactions on blockchain networks, which is crucial given the current costs and speeds associated with zero-knowledge proofs.

Despite the potential benefits, Biniuss complexity means that developers may need time to understand this technology in existing systems fully. Its practical effectiveness will also require extensive testing to validate its impact on enhancing transaction efficiency and reducing costs.

The introduction of Binius by Buterin represents a significant step in the ongoing efforts to advance blockchain technology, promising to improve scalability and efficiency through refined cryptographic techniques.

Microsoft OneDrive adds offline mode to web app to rival Google Drive – Android Authority

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority

TL;DR

There are many cloud storage and file-sharing services available, but most people stick to solutions from Apple, Google, and Microsoft for their daily needs. Apple iCloud, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive perform the same general functions, but there are slight differences in features and approach. Microsoft has updated OneDrive to add offline capabilities, which rival Google Drive has had for a few years.

As announced by Microsoft, OneDrive on the web is getting offline mode. This mode will let you use OneDrive in your favorite browser even when you dont have an internet connection. Offline mode is rolling out globally to OneDrive work and school users.

Expectedly, you need to designate files and folders as available for offline access first. You can then access those files even when you dont have an internet connection. You can also free up local storage space by making your local files and folders online directly from OneDrive for the web. Both actions were previously available through File Explorer on Windows PC and Finder on Max, but you can now carry these out directly from OneDrive on your browser.

Microsoft says that OneDrives offline mode lets you open and interact with OneDrives Home, My files, Shared, Favorites, People, and Meeting views. You can view your folders, file names, and metadata. You can also use the My files view to rename, sort, move and copy files, though the changes will expectedly sync to OneDrive when you get back your internet connection.

Google Drive has had similar functionality for a few years now. You can select the make file available offline option to access the file without an internet connection in the future. Such functionality requires a bit of foresight, but it helps you easily work in a hybrid (online-offline) environment.

Have you tried out offline mode in Microsoft OneDrive? Let us know your experience in the comments below!

VSTECS Singapore partners with Wasabi in cloud storage play – Channel Asia Singapore

Wasabi Techologies has partnered with VSTECS Singapore to distribute Wasabis predictable, high-performance cloud storage solutions in the market.

As Asias appetite for emerging technologies like generative artificial intelligence grows, this will inevitably drive data storage needs and thus, demand for low cost, high-performance object storage services, Wasabi Technologies APJ vice president and general manager Michael King said.

This partnership comes after the launch of Wasabis first Singapore data centre and marks a pivotal moment for Wasabi in bringing its hot cloud storage solutions to the country. It paves the way for Wasabis expanded presence in the APAC region by tapping on VSTECs expansive reach of 50,000 channel partners across Asia and emerging SEA data centre hubs like Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

In an interview with King, he said Wasabis focus is increasingly shifting away from well-established markets towards the burgeoning digital landscapes of Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, where promising opportunities are on the rise.

This escalating interest has spurred hyperscale cloud providers to direct their attention to these countries, eager to stake their claim in the burgeoning cloud market. Singapores stringent regulations on new data centres, notably enforced by its 2019 moratorium, have only added fuel to the fire, amplifying interest in these emerging markets and significantly influencing the trajectory of the channel ecosystem for cloud services, King added.

VSTECS Singapore president Sebastian Chong told Channel Asia the exponential growth in AI adoption has resulted in explosive growth in data and the need for robust, scalable IT infrastructure that is scalable, secure, cost-effective, and powerful.

Complementary services, such as data analytics, IoT, and big data processing, that can be seamlessly integrated with AI solutions are also in demand, Chong said.

Our collaboration with Wasabi, complemented by their local data centre, positions us to meet these demands head-on, providing customers with faster, reliable, and locally optimised hot storage solutions that can also cater to neighbouring Southeast Asia markets that are similarly witnessing a spike in storage needs.

In a recent survey conducted by Wasabi, one in two APAC businesses are overspending for cloud services. Thus, faster and more price-performant solutions will be critical for Singapore with an increasing proportion of small and medium enterprises pursuing digital transformation.

According to King, channel partners are poised to become pivotal in acquiring and retaining customers with their extensive reach into small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

The significance of SMBs in the APAC market cannot be overstated, as they contribute significantly to economic growth, with their share of gross domestic product ranging from 40 60 per cent in most countries, he highlighted.

However, King found that many SMBs still lag behind due to a lack of IT leadership and skills. Unlike enterprise customers with mature best-of-breed strategies, SMBs often make IT buying decisions reactively rather than strategically or proactively.

He explained that SMBs rely heavily on channel partners to serve as trusted advisors for their IT decisions with limited internal IT knowledge and capabilities.

Therefore, channel partners not only play a crucial role in facilitating cloud adoption but also act as key advisors guiding SMBs through their digital transformation journey in the complex and dynamic APAC cloud market, he said.

Besides partnering with VSTECS Singapore to meet increased data storage requirements driven by Gen AI, King also shared that Wasabi is heavily investing in improving AI capabilities in the cloud to its customers. It has recently acquired Curio AI, which combines Wasabis low-cost, high-performance object storage with Curios AI to create intelligent storage.

This innovation is poised to revolutionise data storage, with AI-powered indexing expected to become a standard feature in object storage, King said.

Apart from Gen AI, Chong said that there is also a trend towards sustainable IT solutions that focus on reducing environmental impact of IT operations and infrastructure to counter climate change.

Growth areas are in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics and big data, IoT, remote work and collaboration, and sustainability and Green IT, Chong added.
