Bitcoin (BTC) Bulls Are Back, Explains Binance CEO "CZ," Willy Woo And Michael Saylor – CoinGape

Bitcoin (BTC) bulls appear to be back as the crypto market takes off despite the Fed rate hike and recession fears. Crypto evangelists Binance CEO CZ, MicroStrategys Michael Saylor, and Galaxy Investments Mike Novogratz were bullish on the crypto market before the FOMC meeting and thinks the recession will indeed drive Bitcoin adoption.

Bitcoin (BTC) price skyrocketed by 29% in July, making a high of $24,294 after 2 months on July 29. The U.S. Fed rate hike and negative GDP report fail to pull down the market rally due to rising positive sentiments. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index has jumped to 42 from 11 last month, making Bitcoin attractive above the $20k mark.

Binance CEO CZ in an interview with CNBC eases fear surrounding rising inflation and recession. He believes Bitcoin (BTC) is bearish above the $20k level as the last peak around $20kin 2017 acts as a strong psychological barrier.

He said the Bitcoin fundamentals are strong, money supply and Nasdaq 100 correlation are all secondary factors. The regulatory landscape improvement, higher inflation, and recession talks will help drive Bitcoin adoption.

He asserts logically the crypto market should move opposite to the stock market, but crypto is tied to macro factors these days due to its smaller market size. Both the crypto and equities markets are rising despite the Fed rate hike and recession fears.

The cryptocurrency market is so small that whenever the big ship tank or when stock markets crash, people want to hold cash. Today, most people who are trading cryptocurrencies also trade stocks. So right now its positively correlated, which is illogical, but its just the way it is right now.

Bitcoin analyst Willy Woo in a tweet on July 30 claims the Bitcoin accumulation is rising. He shared his personal Bitcoin capitulation and bear market bottom chart depicting historical Bitcoin movements. Bitcoin bulls can drive a rally.

Bitcoin evangelist and MicroStrategys CEO Michael Saylor believes Bitcoin will drive wave crypto regulation and rationalization as adoption continues to rise. In a recent tweet, he said:

This month the need for bitcoin climbed to another all-time high.

The Bitcoin (BTC) price has rallied significantly higher this week on the back of the crypto market and stock market rebound. In the last 24 hours, BTC made a high of $24,294, currently trading at $23,825, down just 1%.

The Bitcoin (BTC) price will remain bullish above the $20k level for a longer time. Meanwhile, tracking the price trends above the 200-WMA is important.

James Howells lost $181M bitcoin in dump: the $11M plan to get it back – Business Insider

James Howells' life changed when he threw out a hard drive about the size of an iPhone 6.

Howells, from the city of Newport in southern Wales, had two identical laptop hard drives squirreled away in a drawer in 2013. One was blank; he says the other contained 8,000 bitcoins now worth about $181 million, even after the recent crypto crash.

He'd meant to throw out the blank one, but instead the drive containing the cryptocurrency ended up going to the local dump in a garbage bag.

Nine years later, he's determined to get back his stash, which he mined in 2009.

Howells, 36, is hoping local authorities will let him stage a high-tech treasure hunt for the buried bitcoins. His problem is that he can't get into the dump.

For almost a decade, Newport's city council has denied his requests to dig for his hard drive, saying it would be expensive and environmentally damaging, but Howells is not deterred.

He gave Insider a first look at his new $11 million proposal backed by venture-capital funding to search up to 110,000 tons of garbage. He hopes presenting it to the council in the coming weeks will persuade it to let him finally try to recover the hard drive.

Looking for a hard drive among thousands of tons of garbage might seem like a Herculean task.

But Howells, a former IT worker, says he believes it's achievable through a combination of human sorters, robot dogs, and an artificial-intelligence-powered machine trained to look for hard drives on a conveyor belt.

His plan has two versions, based on how much of the landfill the council would allow him to search.

By his estimates, the most extensive option would take three years and involve scouring 100,000 metric tons or about 110,000 tons of garbage at a cost of $11 million. A scaled-down version would cost $6 million and take 18 months.

He has assembled a team of eight experts specializing in areas including AI-powered sorting, landfill excavation, waste management, and data extraction including one advisor who worked for a company that recovered data from the black box of the crashed Columbia space shuttle.

The experts and their companies would be contracted to execute the excavation and would receive a bonus should the bitcoin hoard be successfully retrieved.

"We're trying to achieve this project to a full commercial standard," Howells said.

Howells said machines would dig up the garbage, which would then be sorted at a pop-up facility near the landfill.

Human pickers would sift through it, along with a machine from a company in Oregon called Max-AI. The machine would look like a scanner set over a conveyor belt.

Remi Le Grand of Max-AI told Insider the company would train AI algorithms to spot hard drives that look similar to Howells'. A mechanical arm would then pick out any objects that could be contenders.

Howells has built security costs into his plan, fearing people may try to dig up the hard drive themselves.

He's budgeted for 24-hour CCTV cameras as well as two robotic "Spot" dogs from Boston Dynamics that would function as mobile CCTV patrols at night and sweep the area for anything that looks like his hard drive by day.

Howells told Insider his team had its first meeting in May at the Celtic Manor Resort outside Newport for what he called a dress rehearsal of his pitch to the council.

The meeting was filmed and attended by the former "Top Gear" host Richard Hammond, who has releaseda short YouTube documentaryabout Howells.

"They're clearly a bunch of very committed people who have faith in him and the plan," Hammond told Insider of Howells's team.

"It's a story that goes from the incredibly mundane to the colossal," Hammond said. "If I were in his position, I don't think I'd have the strength to answer the door."

After excavation, the garbage would be cleaned and as much as possible would be recycled, Howells said. The rest would be reburied.

"We do not want to damage the environment in any way," he said. "If anything, we want to leave everything in a better condition."

His plans also include building either a solar or wind-energy farm on top of the landfill site once the project is completed. Yet the chance of the council agreeing to his vision anytime soon looks slim.

"There is nothing that Mr. Howells could present to us" that would make the council agree, a council representative told Insider. "His proposals pose significant ecological risk, which we cannot accept and indeed are prevented from considering by the terms of our permit."

Whether the hard drive will work depends on a component called the "platter" a disc made of either glass or metal that holds the data. Howells says that so long as the platter isn't cracked, there's an 80% to 90% chance the data will be retrievable.

Phil Bridge, a data-recovery professional who has advised Howells on the project, told Insider these figures were accurate.

But if the platter is damaged, Bridge says, there is only a small chance the data could be retrieved.

Bridge says he got involved with the project because he found it intriguing. "It's just one of those cases that piques anyone's interest," he said. "It would be just a fantastic success story to help him get it back and prove everyone wrong really."

Hanspeter Jaberg and Karl Wendeborn, two venture capitalists who are based, respectively, in Switzerland and Germany, told Insider they had promised to provide $11 million to fund the project if Howells won council approval.

"It's obviously a needle in the haystack, and it's a very, very high-risk investment," Jaberg said.

Howells said he didn't have a contract with the prospective backers but had discussed the plan in Zoom meetings. "Until I've got something in writing from Newport City Council," he said, "there is nothing to sign up to."

Howells said if he managed to retrieve the data, he would keep roughly 30% of what's on there worth just over $54 million at current value.

He said about a third would go to the recovery team, 30% to the investors, and the rest for local causes including giving 50, or about $61 at current value, in bitcoin to each of Newport's 150,000 residents.

The amount has fallen from the $240 each he told CNN in January 2021; Howells said he decided to put more money into securing "professional companies" for the excavation to help convince the council.

If Howells fails to get the council's backing, he says, his last resort will be taking the local authority to court with the claim that its actions constitute an "illegal embargo" on the hard drive. "I've been reluctant to go down that route in the past because I've not wanted to cause problems," he said. "I wanted to work with Newport City Council."

Howells said he'd never been granted a face-to-face meeting with the council. He said he was given a 20-minute Zoom meeting in May 2021 but hoped his new business plan would help him break through.

He said he met with his local member of Parliament, Jessica Morden, on June 24. Morden's office confirmed the meeting took place.

Once he's made the council aware of his new plan, all he can do is wait. "This is the best situation I've been in so far," he said. "This is the most professional operation we've put together, and we've got all the best people involved."

The "crypto proponent" says he makes his living by buying bitcoin every month and selling it when he needs cash.

Howells says he tries not to think too much about what his share of the money would allow him to do, if the hard drive is ever found in working order. "Otherwise," he said, "you just drive yourself crazy."

Jordan Peterson says he would rather die than delete his ‘hateful …

Canadian clinical psychologist and YouTube personality Jordan Peterson said he would rather die than delete the tweet he posted about actor Elliot Page last month.

Speaking to the National Post, Peterson, 60, said Twitter had temporarily suspended most of his account's features on June 28 after he tweeted about the 35-year-old actor. In his now-deleted post, Peterson referred to Page using his former name and claimed he had his "breasts removed by a criminal physician."

I penned an irritated tweet in response to one of the latest happenings on the increasingly heated culture war front, Peterson told the publication. There are no rules on Twitter except dont do what we dont like today. They are always applied post hoc by algorithms and idiots bent on maintaining their woke superiority.

Mikhaila Peterson, the Canadian psychologists daughter, called out Twitter following the temporary suspension and tagged Elon Musk in her post, writing, Definitely not a free speech platform at the moment.

The YouTube personality addresses his irritated tweet in a video posted on Friday, explaining that his Twitter accounts restrictions will only be lifted once he deletes his post.

I have essentially been banned from Twitter as a consequence. I say banned, although technically I have been suspended. But the suspension will not be lifted unless I delete the hateful tweet in question, and I would rather die than do that, Peterson says in his video. And hopefully it will not come to that, although who the hell knows in these increasingly strange days?

Petersons tweet was a reaction to a New York Post article about Page, who announced that he is transgender and non-binary in December 2020, and his excitement over being introduced as a transgender character on Netflixs Umbrella Academy.

In May, Peterson also found himself embroiled in controversy for calling plus-size model Yumi Nu "not beautiful" in a tweet. After facing online backlash, he announced he would be quitting Twitter for a few weeks.

Nu, who became the first Asian plus-size model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, responded to Petersons words with a TikTok video of her lip-syncing Nicki Minaj's "Itty Bitty Piggy."

Jordan Peterson: Id Rather Die Than Delete Truthful Tweet For Cancel …

A few days ago, I penned an irritated tweet in response to one of the latest happenings on theincreasingly heated culture war front in response to the decision of an actress (actor) named Ellen (Elliot) Page. I am employing this awkward and impossible multiple-naming style becauseit is now apparently mandatory and probably doing it wrong, nonetheless, as youre doing itwrong is the whole point of what has been made mandatory but also to make a point.

I have essentially been banned from Twitter as a consequence. I say banned, althoughtechnically I have been suspended. But the suspension will not be lifted unless I delete thehateful tweet in question, and I would rather die than do that. And hopefully it will not cometo that, although who the hell knows in these increasingly strange days?

What was it that I said that caused such a fuss? And, even more importantly, and complexly, what exactly was it that I said that resulted in the ban? Here is the tweet in question:

Remember when Pride was a sin? And Ellen Page just had her breasts removed by a criminalphysician.

The response from Twitter:

Violating our rules against hateful conduct. You may not promote violence against, threaten, orharass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability or serious disease.By clicking Delete, you acknowledge that your Tweet violated the Twitter Rules.

If you think weve made a mistake, submit an appeal to us. Please note that should you do so,your account will remain locked while we review your appeal.

Lets take this apart. First, it is clearly the case that I did not promote violence against orthreaten anyone with my missive. So that leaves the arguably lesser sin of harass. Letsassume that was the crime, and, further, harassment on the basis of gender identity. SinceTwitter did not do me the favor of actually specifying my crime, we unfortunately have to guessat why this has occurred and thats actually a big problem in and of itself, and also indicativeof the utter carelessness of the Twitter organization with regard to the propriety of its owncensorial actions. I should at least know exactly what I did wrong if I am required toacknowledge that my Tweet violated the Twitter Rules.

What rules, you sons of bitches?Exactly? Precisely? Because such things matter when the accusations start flying.

So what did I say that might constitute harassment? Many things, hypothetically. Lets beginwith Remember when pride was a sin? Although that is merely a factual statement becauseunder the old rules, applicable even a decade ago, pride was a sin, and had been recognized asperhaps the cardinal sin for thousands of years previously. It still might be regarded asunacceptable to the authoritarian moralists who now insist, for example, that we celebratePride Month (not hour or day or week, but month) and who have literally called it PRIDEMONTH instead of LGBT+ Month. I dont regard PRIDE as a virtue; it has been classicallyregarded as a sin.

I dont see sexual orientation or sexual desire of any sort as something tocelebrate or to take PRIDE in, and what I said was merely a fact. Its possible that I hurtsomeones feelings because I pointed out that PRIDE goes before, for example, a fall, but I dontcare about that, would do it again, and also consider it my duty to warn those who are about tofall into a pit that the path they are on leads suddenly down hill. But that was probably NOT thereason that I was banned from Twitter although, as I said, I am in the position of having toguess.

Next phrase to interrogate: And Ellen Page Now, why did I stop there? Because, in alllikelihood, it was this seemingly innocuous phrase, including the name of a well-known actress(there, Im in trouble again), that likely resulted in my ban. I committed the fatal crime of whathas come to be known in the appalling censorial terminology of the insane activists as dead-naming. Thats the act of referring to someone who has transitioned (another hated piece ofjargon and slogan) by the name, and by inference the gender (really sex) that everyone knewthem by previously and in the case of Ellen/Elliot, that millions of people recognized andknew. So I should have called him/her/they Elliot instead of Ellen, although, as we will discover, that would have made it impossible for me to say what I wanted to and need to say in theremaining phrases. Not that such a problem would bother those who are objecting to myspeech in the first place.

The next phrase is just had her breasts removed. This bit suffers from a very similar problem. Iemployed the forbidden pronoun her when Elliot is now to be regarded as a he, or else. Buttheres a conundrum here, to say the least and not just for me, although I have been bannedbecause of it. Was Elliot/Ellen a she or a he (or Ellen or Elliot) when she or he or they (thatsElliot or Ellen, by the way) had his or her or their breasts removed? If he or she was a he, thenwhy was it necessary to have the mastectomy? And how could those I am writing to makesense of what I was saying if it was his breasts that were removed? Were those male breastsor female breasts that were removed? If they were male breasts, then why were theyremoved? If they were female breasts (and had therefore become objectionable to the degreethat surgery generally reserved for cancer treatment was morally obligatory) then wasnt Elliotstill Ellen and he still she?

How could I possibly have written that sentence in any sensible manner whatsoever whilesimultaneously making my point understandably and not breaking Twitters rules against so-called hateful conduct? And Elliot Page just had his breasts removed?

Was he Elliot then? When, exactly? He was definitely Ellen at some point in the past, or soindicate all his/her/them/their film credits? Will all those have to be reshot, since they employthe hated deadname (that doesnt exist, by the way, that deadname category, except in thecensorial and addled minds of a tiny fraction of insanely narcissistic and increasingly dangeroustrans activists). When precisely was it incumbent on me to switch my terminology in regard toElliot/Ellen so that I was not engaging in hateful conduct? And how can I describe the fact thatsomeone who was once a woman (and really still is) had her breasts cut off becauseshe/he/her/them had fallen prey to a viciously harmful fad without using the appropriate sex-linked pronoun and the real name of the real person to whom this was really done (withher/his/their voluntary but unfortunate acquiescence)?

And so it was impossible to communicate what had happened to my audience without, apparently, running afoul of the impossible and absurd rules that now hypothetically governmorality itself in the days of the degenerated postmodern and Marxist ethos that we must still,no matter how impossible it is, abide by or else.

And, you might object: Ellen/Elliot is an adult (thirty-something) and fully capable of making upher/his/their own mind about such things and she/he/they are welcome from the liberal andthe libertarian position to go to hell in a handbasket as she/he/they see fit. And, fair enough to some degree. But I dont believe it is either merely picayune or inappropriate to point outthat Ellen/Elliot, who is quite a good actor/actress, is also a ritual model for emulation, being astar, with all the privileges and, let us point out, the responsibilities that go along with that.

So, by acquiescing to this surgery, publicizing it and insisting upon the sanctity and moral virtueof his/her/their new expensive, dangerous, and medically-enhanced identity (and byparticipating in the whole identity charade), Ellen/Elliot has undoubtedly enticed many a poor, confused adolescent girl to blame her emergent pubescent self-consciousness, confusion, anddiscomfort on being born in the wrong body and believing that the courageous, self-affirming, and morally admirable route is hormonal treatment, sterilization, subjugation to alifetime of expensive medical complication (how delightfully profitable) and misery. And Ibelieve, firmly, that Ellen/Elliot bears moral culpability for that.

And, finally, with regard to the final phrase criminal physician, I must say that I have hadsome post-coital (so to speak) regrets about that phrase. It is clearly the case that the surgicaloperation performed by the butchers who butchered Elliot/Ellen was legal. So, was it criminalor not? Were the operations undertaken by the fascist physicians who carried out the Nazimedical experiments legal? Yes, under the laws of the time. But were they criminal? Ill leavethat question up to you to answer.

And, further, perhaps it might be objected, What about thedamage done by hypothetically leaving those confused about their identity to dwell in theirconfusion? Arent we morally obliged to intervene? And I would say, NO.Why? Well, first do no harm as the Hippocratic Oath (remember that?) insists. And, second, ithas been a matter of historical consensus that sins of omission are less egregious than sins ofcommission. Thus, leaving someone with gender dysphoria no matter how warranted (andperhaps it is, in a very tiny minority of truly unfortunate cases) to suffer the consequences ofthe theoretical mismatch between soul and body is a less of a risk, ethically, personally, socially, and philosophically than the extremely active interventions that constitute so-called gender-confirming (another hated phrase) surgery.

I might also point out that the trans surgery enterprise is now a $300 million per annum growthindustry (rate of expansion: 15% per year; projected increase by 2027 to $750 million per year). An expanding enterprise in a time of global uncertainty! Time to invest both in the requisitesurgical skills and, perhaps, in any industry associated with this vicious and unconscionable fad, primarily entangling (as such things so often do) the youthful and female. Isnt that a concern, intersectionalists? Not when push comes to shove, or ideology to scalpel. Is that not a truemoral hazard?

And Im not taking down that tweet, or acknowledging that my tweet violated the Twitterrules. Up yours, woke moralists. Well see who cancels who. And I think, as well, that you wokefolks at Twitter, working so hard to improve the world by so carelessly censoring (under themorally superior guise of regulating hate) have no idea what a tangled web youve entangledyourself in. Again. Yet again.

Im really starting to think youre just not that bright.

Psychologist Jordan Peterson Says Society Is Harming Boys, and the Church Must Save Them: ‘That’s Your Holy Duty’ – CBN.com

Renowned Canadian psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson says young people, especially boys, are facing a "demoralization" in the world and he's urging the Christian church to become more involved in reaching the next generation.

In a recent YouTube video titled "Messages to Christian Churches," Peterson explained that when he took a "psychological approach" while talking about the Bible, the majority of his listeners turned out to be young men.

"That is not a phenomenon that can be easily accounted for, but let me try," Dr. Peterson said. "Now in the West, because of the weight of historical guilt that is upon us, a variant of the sense of original sin in a very real sense, and because of a very real attempt by those possessed by what might be described as unhelpful ideas to weaponize that guilt, our young people face a demoralization that is perhaps unparalleled."

"This is particularly true of young men, although anything that devastates young men will eventually do the same to young women," he added while referring to anti-natalism and nihilism.

Quick Start Podcast: The Facts on the Alleged Alzheimers Research Fraud

Peterson continued, "When they are children, boys are hectored for their toy preferences, which often include toy weapons, such as guns, and their more boisterous playing style, as boys require active rough and tumble play even more than girls, for whom it is also a necessity. When in grade school, boys are admonished, shamed and controlled in a very similar manner by those who think that play is unnecessary, particularly if it's competitive, and who value a docile, harmless obedience above all."

He said the indoctrination of such an "extremely damaging ideology" is accomplished with three accusations.

"Number one: human culture, particularly in the West, is best construed as an oppressive patriarchy motivated by the desire, willingness and the ability to use power to attain what are purely selfish and self-serving ends," he explained.

"Accusation number two: human activity, particularly that undertaken in the West, is fundamentally a planet despoiling enterprise. The human race is a threat to the ecological utopia that existed before us and could hypothetically exist after in our absence."

"Accusation number three: the prime contributor both to the tyranny that makes up the oppressive patriarchy and structures all of our social interactions past and present and the unforgivable despoiling of our beloved mother Earth is damnable male ambition, competitive and dominating, power-mad, selfish, exploitative, raping and pillaging," he said. The psychologist explained that people in the West are facing "an all-out assault at the deepest levels."He said young men who are "deeply conscientious, capable of guilt and regret," consider that "in pain, every deep impulse that moves them out into the world for the adventure of their life, even that impulse drawing them to women, is nothing but the manifestation of the spirit that is essentially satanic in nature."

This belief is not only wrong "theologically, morally, psychologically, practically and scientifically," but it is also "anti-true," he noted.

Peterson also pointed out that the Christian church is "there to remind people, especially young men, that they have a woman to find, a garden to walk in, a family to nurture, an ark to build, a land to conquer, a ladder to Heaven to build, and the utter terrible catastrophe of life, to face stalwartly in truth, devoted to love and without fear."

He continued, "Invite the young men back, say, literally, to those young men, 'You are welcome here. If no one else wants what you have to offer, we do. We want to call you to the highest purpose of your life. We want your time and energy and effort and your will and your goodwill. We want to work with you to make things better, to produce life more abundant for you, and for your wife and children and for your community, and your country, and the world.'"

Dr. Peterson then pointed out the problems within the Christian church.

"We are more abundant, sometimes, far too often, corrupt, and sometimes deeply so," he said. "We're outdated, as are all institutions with their roots in the dead but still often wise past."

He shifted attention towards Protestant churches, saying, "You're the worst at the moment." Catholic and Orthodox should also invite young men, Peterson said.

"Put up a billboard saying 'young men are welcome here.' Tell those who have never been in a church exactly what to do, how to dress, when to show up, who to contact and, most importantly, what they can do. Ask more, not less of those you are inviting. Ask more of them than anyone ever has. Remind them who they are in the deepest sense, and help them become that."

Peterson concluded the message by saying, "You're churches for God's sake. Quit fighting for social justice. Quit saving the bloody planet. Attend to some souls. That's what you're supposed to do. That's your holy duty. Do it now, before it's too late. The hour is nigh."

Thousands of viewers commented on the video and some even said they were motivated to go back to church.

Can Q&A lead us out of the opinion wars its helped to fuel? – The Conversation

This weeks announcement that Stan Grant will be permanent host of the ABCs Q&A follows widespread speculation about the future of the program. On some estimates, ratings have fallen by more than 50% from a peak of over 600,000 during its first decade under Tony Jones, who served as host from 2008.

Hamish Macdonald succeeded Jones in November 2019 but resigned in July last year, describinghis 18-month tenure as a bruising experience. Aside from being attacked on Sky News for his far left Green agenda, he was relentlessly trolled on social media, with virulent accusations of bias from both the left and the right.

Curiously, the BBCs Question Time Q&As prototype has followed a parallel trajectory. Its ratings have fallen precipitously, from nearly nine million to just over a million and the decline coincides with the replacement of veteran host David Dimbleby by seasoned BBC personality Fiona Bruce, whose own brand of charisma is no match for the gravitas of her predecessor.

Question Time is something of a cuckoo in the nest. In its 43-year history it has consistently featured leading commentators and parliamentarians; its two most longstanding presenters, Dimbleby and Robin Day, were the equivalent of BBC royalty. But since its takeover by a commercial production company in 1998, the program has crossed the line into terrain more generally associated with tabloid media.

Now its producers prefer guests like Brexiteer Nigel Farage, conservative psychologist Jordan Peterson and John Lydon (alias punk rocker Johnny Rotten), who serve to ratchet up the controversy. Its been claimed that paid audience plants are instructed to ask heavily weighted questions, and that the chairing is biased. And Bruce endures the kind of social media onslaught that drove Macdonald out.

Reports of disastrous ratings may themselves be a form of motivated attack. Audiences now have many more viewing options than the original live transmissions, and the BBC has persistently asserted that audience figures are higher than some surveys suggest.

Q&A is in much the same situation: while Sky claims the lefty lovefest has scored as low as 228,000, the ABC estimates the regular following through 2021 at more than 400,000. But thats still quite a drop-off since the programs heyday.

Are we just jaded with celebrity opinion shows, especially those founded in the leftright dramaturgy? The predictability is at times exhausting.

Macdonalds best episode was his first, in February 2020, when he chaired a session on the bushfires with a panel that included Kirsty McBain, then mayor of Bega, and Andrew Constance, Liberal MP for the area. The panel sat on office chairs in a semi-circle, genuinely sharing what they had all just been through, including Macdonald himself, who had reported from an evacuation centre as the fire front approached.

A few weeks later, though, it was back to business as usual, with the presenter in a glossy suit fielding the play of leftright argy-bargy in the studio.

We dont need this anymore. In many ways, the conventions of robust disagreement and both sides-ism are no longer a positive feature of civil society but rather a threat to it. As Republican Liz Cheney put it in a recent statement to the January 6th Committee, the normal sort of vitriolic, toxic partisanship has got to stop. And we have to recognise what is at stake.

Stan Grant has several times taken the helm as guest host of Q&A since Tony Joness departure. He prompted a furore in March this year when he expelled an audience member who expressed support for Putins invasion of Ukraine, asserting the program was contributing to media bias against Russia. There were calls of propaganda from the audience as the speaker proceeded to claim that Ukraine was responsible for all the violence.

Aired in the second week of the Russian invasion, this episode included speakers and audience members with family in the war zone. We encourage different points of view here, Grant said. But we cant have anyone who is sanctioning, supporting, violence.

Clearly caught off guard by an unscheduled audience intervention, Grant may have missed the essential point: that the statement, intentionally or not, was Russian propaganda. It was a critical moment for many reasons, one of which is that Grants subsequent appointment as host could signal a change in direction for the program.

That moment also raised the question of when we should call foul on claims about the right to express opinion, especially in a media culture increasingly subject to influence from organised, even state-run, propaganda. And what is propaganda? How does it manifest and how should we respond?

This, surely, would be a good focus for a Q&A program. Peter Pomerantsev, who has studied Russian propaganda for decades, would be the perfect guest. These are times in which we need sustained, forensic focus on complex issues. We need insight and analysis from people with knowledge and experience, not extemporised opinion from celebrities.

The Ukraine invasion is the starkest manifestation of the transformed geopolitical environment. With Donald Trump already moving to gather support for another tilt at the presidency, and the US justice department taking its time over the evidence against him, the future of American democracy is in jeopardy. In Australia we have a leader of the opposition who talks openly about war with China.

Jones, Macdonald and Grant have all had extensive experience as foreign correspondents. With domestic politics increasingly dwarfed by the massive geopolitical tensions of our era, those issues should be to the fore. Plus, a review of a heartwarming movie now in theaters.

This is The World and Everything in It.

MYRNA BROWN, HOST:It's the 29th day of July, 2022. Glad to have you along for todays edition of The World and Everything in It. Good morning, Im Myrna Brown.

NICK EICHER, HOST:And Im Nick Eicher. First up: Culture Friday with Andrew Walker.

Andrews a professor of Christian ethics and apologetics at Southern Seminary and managing editor of WORLD Opinions. Morning, Andrew!

ANDREW WALKER, GUEST:Nick and Myrna, its always good to be with you.

BROWN:Andrew, we didn't get a chance to talk about this last week, but I know it's still on your mind.

You wrote, and I'm quoting you here, Most Republicans knees are buckling about having to go on the record about same-sex marriage. They fear political retribution, meaning they aren't really free. But truth and freedom go hand in hand. Rather than buckle at elite scorn, always testify to what is true. Live Free."

Of course, you were referring to the 47 Republican House members who essentially walked away from the party's stated principles and platform, not to mention what the Bible teaches about marriage, to cast a vote for same-sex marriage.

Here's the rub: When the Supreme court redefined marriage in 20-15, the collective response from Republicans was outrage.

What do you think has changed in seven years and why is this a defining cultural moment?

WALKER: Well, it's a good question. I think what we are noticing over the last seven years, is the ability for law to be a teacher. We see this principle laid down in Scripture. Paul says the law is a teacher, it's a paedagogus. What he means by that is, law shapes belief, belief shapes behavior, behavior shapes our understanding of customs.

We are now accustomed to five plus years of same-sex marriage, and United States. It's now routine. It's now by all accounts, traditional based on the evolving mores of the modern kind of secular worldview. I say that in jest, obviously.

But all this goes to show us is how if you don't keep the debate alive, individuals on the other side of the aisle will treat you like you're on the wrong side of history. And that's what we're seeing play out.

And I think theres a lot of Republican cowardice on this issue. You're right, they did speak out profusely against the Obergefell ruling, and rightfully so, because this was the Supreme Court, kind of bringing this issue to all 50 states, without any votes whatsoever.

But now that this all seems normal, the Republicans are abandoning principle. And as you mentioned in your question, they're abandoning their own platform of their own party. And so I think this goes to show you that if we are not testifying to what is true, what is false can easily come to the surface.

And so regardless of what happens, if there are 60 votes for this in the Senate, our calling as Christians doesn't change because the nature of marriage can't change. It's something outside the purview of politics, because God is the author of marriage. And our calling is to testify to what is true, regardless of the cost.

EICHER:That's interesting. Let's talk about another issue that seems to be buckling Republican knees, as you say and thats the issue of abortion, now that the Supreme Court has washed its hands of the issue and said this is now a matter for the peoples representatives to handle. And Im hearing rumblings that the peoples representatives are saying, at least some of them: Oh, great! This is going to kill us in the midterms. We need to lay low Maybe heres where we find out where evangelicals are because the criticism is they look the other way on Republican hypocrisy and this seems potentially an opportunity to show otherwise.

WALKER: It is really interesting that now that issues of life are back on the table, you know, one of the concerns that the pro-life community had about the mainstream Republican establishment is that they actually didn't really want Roe to ever be overturned. Because as long as they just paid lip service to the pro life movement, with Roe in place, abortion was really going nowhere.

But now there's actually opportunity for abortion to move in the states. And I wouldn't be shocked. I mean, I can't read the motives of every Republican office holder, but I wouldn't be shocked if there are some who were really turned off by this.

One of my good friends is a high ranking official in the Republican Senate side. And this individual told me about conversations with Republican consultants, who were really, really concerned about how overturning Roe could negatively impact Republicans come November. And my friend, who is very, very pro life, was about to pull his hair out because he said, How insane is it, that there are Republican operatives who are actually concerned and upset at the overturning of Roe v. Wade, when this again is what is purportedly at the center of the Republican Party's platform.

So there's some gross hypocrisy going on here. And listen, we need to call balls and strikes. When the Republicans get it wrong. When they're acting cowardly or hypocritically, they need called out for this.

EICHER:Speaking of calling the strike zoneI know you saw this onea well-known personality, public intellectual, saying the church is striking out. Im talking about the Canadian psychology professor Jordan Peterson. He put up a video on YouTube called a message to the Christian churches that among other things admonishes the church to focus ministry resources toward men, young men in particular. He's very passionate on it. Here's a bit of what he said.

PETERSON:... invite young men. Put up a billboard. Say, young men are welcome here. Tell those who have never been in a church exactly what to do, how to dress, when to show up, who to contact, and most importantly, what they can do. Ask more, not less, of those you are inviting. Attend to some souls. That's what youre supposed to do. Thats your holy duty. Do it. Now. Before its too late. The hour is nigh.

And I was thinking about that in light of a really good column you ran in WORLD Opinions by a new writer, Bethel McGrew. Americas lost boys, it was called. She talks about the Chicago Fourth of July shooter about how the warning signs are there if only we would look.

Jordan Peterson seems to have looked and hes urging churches to attend to these young people.

So my question is, first, I wonder if you think Jordan Peterson has it right and whether he has something to say to the churches that we ought to listen to.

WALKER:So I think on the whole, Jordan Peterson is correct in his diagnosis, about the nature of masculinity in our culture. Now, I don't think that full scale adoption of all that he's proposing is necessarily correct, because I think at the heart of some of Jordan Peterson's recommendations, is a very kind of mancentric, anthropocentric understanding of man trying to get himself to Godwhen in reality, the message of the Christian gospel is God bringing himself to man and to what to woman, to be clear.

But there is, I think, a general listlessness in our culture, about the nature of masculinity. I think there's at least two reasons for that: One at the pop culture level, ask yourself, How often do we see men portrayed in any type of ennobling capacity? A lot of times, especially on sitcoms, husbands, and fathers are portrayed as kind of absent-minded dunces. But then also, we have what I would call elite scorn at the notion of masculinity as well.

Now, I don't think we need to revert to kind of chest thumping bravado, to call for a healthy masculinity. That's not what I'm calling for. Im calling for a healthy, Biblical masculinity that understands what God has called us to in our masculinity, which is to be faithful providers and protectors and responsible individuals in society.

So I do think that there are many avenues in the culture that are causing men to second guess themselves and question whether anything about their status as men matters in society.

And so this is an opportunity. I mean, Jordan Peterson is correct insofar as he's saying to the church, Church, you need to talk about the excellence of what it means to be masculine. The church does have something to say here. The church is one of the few institutions in society that I would argue hasn't lost the very definition of what it means to be a man.

We're now living in this kind of genderless age, where, you know, you really can't be a man or a woman by any biological category. It's all a matter of your mind. But the church, through the word of God actually has a word here.

One of my favorite understandings of Christianity is that Christianity is a religion of assertion. We actually believe in truth, we actually believe that there is something composite to masculinity and femininity, and we need to champion that because if we don't champion that, we'll let kind of the culture despisers around us take advantage of our frailty, and to manipulate the conversationand I think to make men and boys for that matter, more worse off.

BROWN:All right, Andrew Walker. Hes a professor of Christian ethics and apologetics at Southern Seminary and managing editor of WORLD Opinions. Thanks, Andrew!

WALKER:Thank you.

MYRNA BROWN, HOST:Today is Friday, July 29th. Thank you for turning to WORLD Radio to help start your day.

Good morning. Im Myrna Brown.

NICK EICHER, HOST:And Im Nick Eicher. Up next, arts and media editor Collin Garbarino reviews a film currently in theaters. Its about not just following your dreams but helping others along the way.

COLLIN GARBARINO: Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris is a charming adaptation of Paul Gallicos 1958 novel of the same name. At first glance, the movie seems like a Cinderella story for older folksa humble cleaning lady embarks on an adventure to buy a life-changing dressbut this middle-aged Cinderella turns out to be something of a fairy godmother herself.

The year is 1957, and Ada Harris is a London war widow making ends meet by cleaning houses. Shes hard working and selfless, but her employers take her for granted. Her friends care for her, but sometimes they take her for granted too.

Archie: Why do you stick with her whos so crabby.

Mrs. Harris: Met her me first shift building planes. Never had a better friend.

Vi: Trouble with this oneshe always speak the truth. Cant help herself.

Archie: That is a terrible affliction. All right behave yourself ladies. Ill be watching you.

Her life has been on hold since World War II ended, but she finds new purpose after seeing her employers custom-made Christian Dior gown. Mrs. Harris decides she must have one too, but a Dior dresss 500-pound price tag is an impossibly large expense for someone like her. The determined Mrs. Harris scrimps and saves, and after an unexpected windfall, she heads to Paris to claim her gown.

But Mrs. Harris isnt prepared for the world of haute couture at the House of Dior, and purchasing a gown proves more complicated than expected.

Madame Colbert: [speaking French] This lady wishes to buy a dress. Direct her to a suitable shop. [speaking French] Go!

Andre: Please let me escort you out.

Mrs. Harris: No, no, no. Hang on a minute. Ive come miles. Saved every penny scrubbing floors and I dont know what, so I can buy this frock.

Madame Colbert: A Christian Dior is not for pennies. [speaking French]

Mrs. Harris: Right. If you think I ain't got the money. There.

Andre: [speaking French]

Some members of Pariss high society resent the disruption her simple virtues bring to their image-conscious world. But others embrace the good-natured Mrs. Harris, inspired by her honesty and love of others.

Marquis: Excuse me cher madame, but it would be my honor to have you view the collection as my guest. There you are. Merci. Shall we?

Mrs. Harris: Oh!

Mrs. Harriss quest for a luxurious dress might sound like a frivolous plot device, but the movie doesnt endorse materialism. Mrs. Harris doesnt pretend the dress will make her a better person. And no one, including Mrs. Harris, understands why she wants one.

Madame Colbert: This Dior dress that you admire so much. Where will you wear it? At the opera ball or Queen Charlottes? Will you wear it to polish floors or will you keep it shut in your wardrobe? A Dior dress is designed to astonish and delight. How will you do that, Mrs. Harris? Forgive me for saying this, but you are nobody. Invisible. How will you give this dress the life it deserves?

Heres Whats Next for Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and One Altcoin That Over Exploded 225%: Top Crypt… – The Daily Hodl

A widely followed trader is exploring the near-term outlook of the two largest-crypto assets and one altcoin that has recently printed massive gains.

Starting with Bitcoin (BTC), the trader known as Altcoin Sherpa tells his 180,600 Twitter followers that the flagship crypto asset could sustain its bullish momentum if it manages to overcome a key resistance level.

BTC: Getting closer and closer We break $24,000 solidly and I think we see high $20,000s after.

Bitcoin is trading at $23,752 at time of writing.

Altcoin Sherpa also highlights a number of technical indicators suggesting that a move to the upside appears imminent. However, he remains cautious that BTC can still possibly revisit its bear market lows.

BTC: A few notes:

-First potential bullish major on the four-hour chart since end of March.

-First bullish exponential moving average crossing since March.

-Still high timeframe bearish on the daily chart.

-NOT a macro reversal in my opinion, doubtful it goes past high $20,000.

-I still think $17,000s will get swept eventually.

Looking at Ethereum(ETH), Altcoin Sherpa says the second-largest crypto asset by market cap will likely continue to outpace other crypto assets. The crypto strategist shares the chart of Solana against Ethereum (SOL/ETH) to show that SOL is in a downtrend against the leading smart contract platform.

Is ETH going to just keep outperforming everything (BTC included)? Or is anything else going to outpace it? Interesting to see the layer-1/ETH pairs right now: SOL and AVAX.

I personally think ETH just continues to outperform in the midterm but thats just me.

Altcoin Sherpa says its the same case for the Avalanche against Ethereum (AVAX/ETH) pair.

Ethereum is exchanging hands at $1,714 at time of writing.

Another altcoin on the traders radar is the Ethereum hard fork Ethereum Classic (ETC). The smart contract platform surged from $13.92 on July 14th to its recent high of $45.27 on July 29th, an increase of more than 225% in about two weeks.

Altcoin Sherpa says that Ethereum Classic is likely due for one more leg up toward its immediate resistance before a correction could take place.

ETC: Ive been gone the last 10 days relatively so I missed this entire move. Looking for shorts in the high $30s. I think that this is a decent short due to the length of time spent in between each peak + this will need to cool. I have my alerts.

Ethereum Classic is trading at $40.17 at time of writing.

CRV Price Analysis: Reversal Within This Pattern May Drop Prices By 12% – CoinGape

Published 23 hours ago

The ongoing recovery in the CRV/USDT pair is rising under the influence of an ascending wedge pattern. For nearly seven weeks, the altcoin within this pattern has gained 174% as it reached a high of $1.56. However, a bearish reversal from the patterns trendline provides another pullback opportunity allowing potential buyers to accumulate this token at a discounted price.

Source- Tradingview

In theory, the falling wedge pattern is a bearish reversal pattern that signals an imminent breakdown to the downside. Thus, as buyers get exhausted from carrying the market value higher, the altcoin may eventually breach the support trendline to trigger the upcoming downfall.

On July 29th, the CRV price reverted from the resistance trendline, initiating another bear cycle within this pattern. The reversal breached an immediate support level of $1.435, offering an extra edge for a possible retracement.

Today, the CRV price is down by 0.77%, showing sustainability below the poked support. Thus, sustained selling should lead the price to 12% down before it hits the ascending trendline.

Thus, if the CRV price pierce this support trendline as well, the coin sellers would extend the correction to the $0.87 mark.

Conversely, under a strong bullish scenario, an upside breakout from the patterns resistance trendline is possible, which may accelerate the bullish momentum.

RSI indicator: while the price action is forming new higher, the daily-RSI slope walking a lateral path signals weakness in bullish momentum. Thus, a bearish divergence from this momentum indicator supports a correctional theory.

EMAs: the rising price has flipped the 20-and-50-day EMA into dynamic support, assisting buyers in maintaining this recovery. Moreover, the price has recently breached the 100-day EMA may stall the expected downfall.
