Men Use The Image Of Female Perfection To Motivate ThemselvesHere’s How It Works – Evie Magazine

When it comes time to attract a female mate, the bowerbird tries to make himself as appealing as possible. He does this by building structures and decorating them with various objects like leaves and twigs. The more ornate and engaging the structure, the more successful the bowerbird is at getting a female to choose him from among the other competitors.

In a way, modern dating and courtship exist on the same plane. As a species we couldnt be more different than the bowerbird, but the ritualistic aspect of attraction and mating has startling similarities. Think about it. If youre at a bar with your girlfriends, who are you more likely to notice? The wallflower hugging his beer and barely making eye contact with anyone, or the goofball up on stage belting his heart out to bad karaoke in front of tons of strangers?

The central concept is the same. Men use the image of female perfection to motivate themselves to a higher calling with greater rewards. Heres how it works.

If you need a more human illustration of how this phenomenon works, consider the character of Tom from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Twain remains one of Americas greatest literary figures, and during his time he was the most famous satirist and humorist in the country. Twain chose to center the narrative voices of his novels around the lives and misadventures of children, but this was really a genius artistic choice on his part. Not only did Twain corner the market on the Great American novel, but he simultaneously crafted exciting stories for children and witty satire for adults.

Many know Twain for Huck Finn, but Tom Sawyer is arguably Twains most unforgettable hero. At the risk of rewriting an entire fifth grade book report, Twains novel chronicles the life of an orphan living with his aunt and younger brother in 1840s Missouri.

Through the course of the novel, 12-year-old Tom falls in love with the daughter of a local judge. When he sees that Becky Thatcher isnt so easily swayed by words, Tom commits to doing everything he can to win her heart. This starts with him perilously walking across a high fence to get her attention and even tricking other children to win a prized Bible in Sunday school (which he later loses by failing to answer basic questions about the Bible. If you know, you know).

Tom eventually rescues Becky from a mishap in a cave, and Twains tale has a happy ending, but even a cute love story between two 12-year-olds can give us insight into human behavior, which Twain was a master at exploring through his works.

How many times have we said it, or heard our moms, sisters, and friends say it? I dont understand men.

Maybe men arent meant to be understood by us, but thats a different topic for a different time. Regardless, the majority of a mans behavior can be extremely puzzling to us, whether its acting like a middle schooler who never grew out of their class clown phase or not loading the dishwasher just the way we like it.

A man makes time for what hes interested in, so if hes interested in you, nothing will get in his way.

You dont have to be a clinical psychologist, behavioral analyst, or anthropologist to know that the way men go about certain things is weird. Their logic for why they do what they do, even when they explain it to us, is something we probably wont understand, just as they wouldnt understand why we do the things we do.

We know that certain signals or subtlety may fail to reach the object of our affections, but we should never mistake the signs a man sends us. Not every man is a master of reading female emotions, but whether intentionally or unintentionally, he does send us very clear messages about how he thinks of us.

If youre in the dreaded talking phase with a crush and he just isnt getting back to you, or the conversation is like pulling teeth, you're probably better off investing your time and energy elsewhere. If a guy says hes too busy to hang out or too busy to date (but always seems to be down to talk at 2 a.m., if you know what I mean), again, youre better off elsewhere. After all, a man and were talking about men here, not boys, guys, or dudes makes time for the things hes interested in, and if hes interested in pursuing you, nothing will get in his way.

So what does it look like when a guy is very, very interested? Well, he might just build a proverbial bowerbird structure or balance on a picket fence just to get your attention. But the gestures, the actions, the words, however crazy or wild they might seem, arent really about getting your attention, but about something much deeper and more profound.

Consider if you will for a moment all the great artistic masterpieces and the muses behind them: the Mona Lisa, John Everett Millais Ophelia, Neil Diamonds Sweet Caroline, or Billy Joels Uptown Girl. Not every woman is behind a great artist, but women have inspired artists to create the greatest works of their time.

Dr. Jordan Peterson calls this the eternal image of the feminine. Femininity is a power that only women have, and its inspired everything from the Trojan War to songs by The Beatles. To men, the eternal image of the feminine is a cause worth pursuing and worth fighting for. It inspires men to create, to pursue, and to love. And we as women dont always understand that because we believe that if a guys simping over us, rejection is the better option.

The eternal image of the feminine inspires men to create, to pursue, and to love.

This isnt always the case though, as theres a distinct difference between a man simping for you and a man pursuing you. Female perfection and the power of femininity motivate men to be their best selves. A woman, without even knowing it, has the ability to motivate a man to do almost anything. The best way we as women can participate in this natural process (again, remember the bowerbird) is to encourage chivalry.

Chivalry is the opposite of simping. It motivates men to exhibit their masculinity in healthy, productive ways that arent creepy or cringey and creates an ideal archetype for both younger men and women to exemplify and pursue. Chivalry allows women to be their fully feminine selves, and encourages masculinity, and we should be encouraging that behavior, not rejecting it. Whether hes opening your car door for you or teaching you a new skill, allowing him to be the chivalrous man nature is telling him to be gives you the freedom to be the woman you were born to be.

If youve ever considered why a guys making a fool out of himself whenever hes around you, consider the possibility that hes into you! Hes not just an idiot or a moron, and the sooner you pick up on it, the sooner you can channel that energy and motivation into chivalry which benefits both of you and makes you the best possible version of yourselves.

Verizon could bundle Apple One with its most expensive plan – Cult of Mac

Verizon's most expensive 5G plan could soon bundle Apple One for free. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Verizon could soon become the first U.S. carrier to bundle an Apple One subscription for free with one of its plans. The network operator reportedly plans to announce the offer alongside the iPhone 14 series.

Apple One subscription pricing starts at $14.95 per month in the United States for a single user.

A new MacRumors report details that Verizon will most likely bundle Apple One with its 5G Get More plan. The carriers most expensive plan, it currently costs $90 per month for a single user. Verizon already bundles subscriptions to Apple Music, Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and 600GB of Verizon Cloud Storage as part of the plan. Combined, these services already cost well over $50 per month.

The report does not specify if the Apple One bundle will be available for existing subscribers. Verizon likely will announce the bundling of Apple One with its most expensive plan around the iPhone 14 launch, i.e., on or around Apples Far Out event on September 7.

Recently, U.K. carrier EE became the first carrier to bundle an Apple One subscription with a monthly cellphone plan.

The individual Apple One plan bundles subscriptions to Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and 50GB iCloud Storage into one. Subscribing to these services individually would cost $20.96 per month. Thanks to the bundle, they only have to pay $14.95. Higher Apple One tiers offer even more Apple services for even bigger savings.

It remains unclear if Verizon will allow users to upgrade to the Apple One Family plan for an additional fee. With the Family plan, you can share the Apple One bundle with your family members and get up to 200GB of iCloud storage.

The addition of the Apple One bundle would further improve the value proposition of Verizons most expensive plan.

Dell boosts VxRail with DPUs running vSphere Blocks and Files – Blocks and Files

Dell Technologies has announced co-engineered developments with VMware covering VxRail hyperconverged appliances, special edge site VxRail systems, APEX cloud subscription offerings, and validated AI systems with automated machine learning.

The announcements were made at VMwares Explore event against the backdrop of Broadcoms pending acquisition of the virtualization company.

Jeff Boudreau, president of Dells Infrastructure Solutions Group, said: Dell Technologies and VMware have numerous joint engineering initiatives spanning core IT areas such as multicloud, edge and security to help our customers more easily manage and gain value from their data.

There are actually three VxRail announcements: VxRail with DPUs, VxRail and vSAN ESA, and VxRail modular edge nodes.

VxRail systems now support vSphere 8 software that has been designed to run on server-attached DPUs (data processing units) such as Nvidias BlueField-2. ThisvSphere Distributed Services Engine software is part of the Nvidia-VMware Project Monterey that offloads hypervisor, networking, security, and storage tasks from the CPU to the DPU. No configurations have been announced yet but we performance stats with some anticipation.

Dell told us that PowerEdge servers will support onboard DPUs as well.

Certain VxRail configs support VMwares new vSAN Enterprise Storage Architecture (ESA), which can deliver an up to 4x vSAN performance improvement through using NVMe technology. This vSAN ESA is a single-tier HCI storage setup and all NVMe VxRail models are optimized for it.

Dell has also announced rugged and modular VxRail systems for edge locations, the smallest form-factor VxRail systems to date.

We were told in a briefing that these new ruggedized modular nodes can be racked, stacked, and mounted for use anywhere in almost any environment and scale from two to 64 nodes. Theyre specifically designed with half-width blades and are the industrys first onboard integrated and purpose-built hardware witness.

A hardware witness is an ESXi host in a stretched cluster that stores virtual machine (VM) metadata, known as the witness components, for each VM object. If a host in the stretched cluster fails, the other sites may not be able to decide which one is the master or authoritative site. The witness provides a so-called vote to build a quorum and decide which is the main site. Then VMs from the failed site can be vMotioned to the new main site and restarted.

The onboard hardware witness removes the need for remote datacenter infrastructure power and administration thats typically required with a separate witness node.

We are envisaging non-rackmount chassis, and thinking of wall-mount systems and table-top designs. Dell envisages these mini-VxRail systems being used for healthcare, energy and utilities, and digital cities with deployments in high-latency, low-bandwidth locations.

Scale Computing has had a strong focus on edge location HCI systems for some years. For example, it has a cigarette box-sized HCI edge appliance, the HE150. This uses Intels NUC micro-PC processing hardware. We dont know if VxRail will come this far down the small system scaling curve.

APEX Cloud Services with VMware Cloud adds managed VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid services, meaning customers canprovision Kubernetes clusters and containerized workloads through the vSphere user interface.

APEX Private Cloud and APEX Hybrid Cloud offer new compute-only options so customers can scale compute and storage independently. They can connect compute-only instances to Dell storage such as APEX Data Storage Services.

Dell Validated Designs for AI Automatic Machine Learning (AutoML) uses automated machine learning models to help data scientists develop AI-powered applications. It includes validated configurations of VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure with H2O.ai, Nvidia, and VMware software with automation that delivers up to 18x faster AI models. This is according to an April 2020 Total Economic Impact Study Commissioned By Dell and Intel.

Cryptocurrency Sceptics Look To Bend The Ear Of Regulators – Barron’s

those behind the first Organisers of the Crypto Policy Symposium hope the event will prompt much more 'critical discourse' of the sector Justin TALLIS

Text size

Cryptocurrency critics, including economists and researchers, will gather in London and online this week to get their message across to regulators about the booming but volatile sector.

A number of governments have expressed concerns over cryptocurrencies, but those behind the first Crypto Policy Symposium say they hope the event will prompt much more "critical discourse" of the sector.

"There are so many crypto conferences but they are funded by the crypto industry," said Martin Walker, a co-organiser.

"The goal is to dispel some myths created by the crypto industry and to make policy makers start asking the right questions."

But Walker, a banking IT expert, is quick to reject claims that Monday and Tuesday's event is an "anti-crypto conference".

Instead he says it is a chance to hear the critical voices of specialists in financial bubbles, researchers who have evaluated the industry's carbon footprint and engineers who question the effectiveness of decentralised technologies.

"We've got regulators from all over the world," he said.

About 1,000 people have signed up to watch the conference online and UK officials are expected to attend a live event in London on Tuesday.

The conference comes as the price of bitcoin has plunged from a peak of nearly $69,000 last October to around $20,000.

The risky nature of the ultra-volatile and poorly regulated market for retail investors will be particularly highlighted.

Many central banks and financial market regulators have warned about the dangers posed by cryptocurrencies.

But in the absence of a clear legislative framework, users are rarely informed when making their investments, say crypto critics.

The collapse of cryptocurrency investment platform Celsius left customers in despair and unable to recover investments that sometimes included life savings.

The firm faced mounting troubles until it froze withdrawals in mid-June and a court filing showed it owed $4.7 billion to its users.

"People didn't understand that their money wasn't secure and they still don't understand why they can't get it back," said Amy Castor, a respected freelance journalist who is among the most vocal of cryptocurrency critics.

"We wanted to have our voices heard because it's important for regulators to understand the risks, how crypto-currencies work, the scam inherent in it, so that they can do more to protect retail investors (and) the public," she said.

Castor, who used to work for cryptocurrency media outlets, became known during the 2017 price surge and subsequent crash for her criticism of the so-called "stablecoin" Tether.

Tether's price is pegged to the US dollar but its cash flow remains murky.

"The problem is that crypto-currency has become so big that now there is a lot of money going into lobbying... to support politicians," Castor added.

In the United States some elected officials have proudly shown support for the sector, especially at the local level.

The mayors of Miami and New York have said they want to make their cities cryptocurrency capitals, and there are municipality-specific currency projects in various stages of development.

"Officials are making broad statements about the good of cryptocurrencies," said Tonantzin Carmona, a researcher at the Brookings Institution.

"They focus on what good could come from that tech and they ignore the real risks."

In March, Carmona published a research paper on the potential danger posed by the mayors' enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies.

She feared being attacked on social networks but instead says her arguments found favour with the small community of crypto-sceptics, who helped her see that she was not a lone voice.

"There's a difference between being a hater and being critical," she said.
