Deep State totalitarians are now targeting your mindset and worldview as they move toward the Great Reset and the New World Order, warns The New American magazines Alex Newman in this episode of Behind The Deep State. This includes using propaganda, lies, nudging, emotional manipulation, and brainwashing masquerading as education, Alex warns. World Economic Forum chief Klaus Schwab openly said mindsets must be transformed. The United Nations has made similarly alarming comments. Key officials from the Obama and Biden administrations are working on using behavioral insights in this effort to transform peoples minds. And according to whistleblowers, Rick Stengel, former Obama undersecretary of state, operates an outfit called the Good Info Foundation, that is paying influencers big money to lie to Americans. Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations, Stengel boasted of the alleged benefits of using propaganda against Americans. People like Obama regulatory czar Cass Sunstein, meanwhile, have advocated the use of nudging to shift peoples views and behavior. British authorities have been doing it for a long time. Working with the UN, John Podestaa key operative with the Clinton family and Obamaalso spoke of the need to change peoples mindsets.

Patience – Stress Management Strategies From MindTools.com

Patience is a virtue, and there's a reason it's a tough skill to master.

Imagine, for instance, that you're waiting for someone to finish compiling a report that you need for a meeting. You're already late, you can feel your body getting tense, and you're starting to get angry. Suddenly, you lose your temper and yell at the person for putting you behind schedule. You can tell that they're shocked and upset by your outburst, but you can't help it.

We likely all lose our patience occasionally. But doing so frequently or inappropriately can harm your reputation, damage your relationships, increase stress, or escalate a difficult situation.

Discover a range of strategies to help you to stay calm and patient.

In this article, we explore different kinds of patience and how they apply in the workplace. We also examine the strategies that you can use to develop and nurture this essential quality.

Patience is the ability to stay calm while you're waiting for an outcome that you need or want. According to research by psychologist Sarah Schnitker, it comes in three main varieties: interpersonal patience, life hardship patience, and daily hassles patience.

Let's look at these in more detail:

Interpersonal patience is patience with other people, their demands and their failings.

You may consider some people to be slow learners, hard to understand, or even downright unreasonable. Or, they may have bad habits that drive you crazy. But losing your patience with them will be of no benefit, and it may make matters worse.

Patience and understanding toward others is essential when you're onboarding new staff, or when you're delegating tasks. It's also a huge help in dealing with difficult co-workers or managers, and it's central to high-quality customer service.

This type of patience is active. Listening skills and empathy are vital, and, when you're dealing with difficult people , you need the self-awareness and emotional intelligence to understand how your words and actions affect the situation. You can't just wait it out and hope for the best.

We could use the term perseverance to sum up life hardship patience. It can mean having the patience to overcome a serious setback in life, like waiting long term for the outcome of a lawsuit, or for medical treatment. But it can also include your ability to work toward a long-term goal whether it's professional, such as a promotion, or personal, like getting fit or saving for a vacation.

Whatever the obstacle you have to overcome, it will likely require determination and focus to achieve. And you will need to keep your emotions under control throughout the journey. These emotions can range from eagerness to get it done, to anger at the frustrations you encounter along the way which can cause you to become demotivated.

Sometimes you need patience to deal with circumstances that are beyond your control. These are your "life hassles." Something as trivial as getting stuck in a traffic line, for instance, or waiting for a computer program to load.

You also need patience to get through those dull but unavoidable day-to-day tasks that don't necessarily contribute to your personal goals. The ability to maintain self-discipline , and give a job no matter how mundane the attention to detail it needs, is a hallmark of patience.

Research suggests that people who can stay calm in the face of these constant, petty frustrations are more likely to be more empathic, more equitable, and to suffer less from depression.

In general, being patient means that you're more likely viewed positively by your co-workers and managers (and your family and friends). You'll likely be a better team worker, and more focused and productive.

If you're often impatient, people may see you as arrogant, insensitive and impulsive. Co-workers may think that you're a poor decision maker, because you make snap judgments or interrupt people. If you get a reputation for having poor people skills and a bad temper, others may even deliberately avoid working with you. As a result, not surprisingly, impatient people will unlikely be top of the list for promotion.

Of course, being patient doesn't mean you should be a "pushover." Far from it. Sometimes it's OK to show your displeasure when people keep you waiting unnecessarily. So, ensure that you establish strong boundaries . But, be sure that you're polite and assertive , never angry and aggressive.

Impatience has its roots in frustration. It's a feeling of rising stress that starts when you feel that your needs and wishes are being ignored. In a modern environment where we're accustomed to instant communication and immediate access to data, it's a growing problem. But recognizing the warning signs can help you to prevent impatience from taking hold.

Impatience has a range of symptoms. Physical signs can include shallow, fast breathing, muscle tension, and hand clenching. Or you may find yourself restlessly jiggling your feet.

There may be changes in your mood and thoughts, too. You may become irritable, angry, or experience anxiety or nervousness. Rushing to do things and making snap decisions the symptoms of hurry sickness are clear signs that your impatience is gaining the upper hand.

If you experience these feelings and symptoms, try to identify what has caused them. Many of us have "triggers" for impatience. These could be specific people, words or situations.

Make a list of things that cause you to become impatient. If you're having trouble identifying your triggers, stop and think about the last time you felt this way. What caused it?

If you're not sure, ask your co-workers (or your friends and family) about your impatience. Chances are, they know what gets you "wound up." The 5 Whys technique can also aid you in identifying the root cause of an issue.

Try keeping a journal to record when you start to feel impatient. Write down the details of the situation, and why you're getting frustrated. This can help you to examine your actions and to understand why you respond in this way.

You won't always be able to avoid the triggers that make you impatient. But you can learn to manage your reactions to them.

Many people become impatient due to physical factors such as hunger, dehydration or fatigue . Bear this in mind the next time you start to feel impatient. A simple remedy might be a snack and a glass of water!

Receive new career skills every week, plus get our latest offers and a free downloadable Personal Development Plan workbook.

When you feel impatient, it's important to get out of this damaging frame of mind as quickly as possible. Try to develop strategies to deal with your impatience as you notice it.

Take deep, slow breaths, and count to 10. Doing this will slow your heart rate, relax your body, and distance you emotionally from the situation. Sometimes you might need a longer count, or to repeat the process several times.

Impatience can cause you to tense your muscles involuntarily. So, consciously focus on relaxing your body . Again, take slow, deep breaths. Relax your muscles, from your toes up to the top of your head.

Force yourself to slow down. Make yourself speak and move more slowly. It will appear to others as if you're calm and acting patient often makes you feel more patient.

Remember, you do have a choice about how you react to certain situations. You can choose to be patient, or not: it's up to you. (Read our article, Managing Your Emotions at Work , to learn more about this.)

Challenge your negative assumptions, instead of letting your impatience build. Aim to reframe the circumstances in a more positive light. For example, people might not mind if a meeting is delayed, as long as you let them know in advance that you're running late. There may even be benefits to the delay: understanding a developing situation more clearly, for example.

Uncharacteristic displays of impatience may be a sign of underlying problems such as stress , exhaustion or burnout . If you think this may apply to you, seek advice from a qualified health professional.

If your impatience causes you to react angrily toward others, read our article on Anger Management to learn how to control this powerful emotion.

Practicing empathy can also enable you to defuse your impatience. Give the other person your full attention, and try to see beyond your own frustrations by imagining yourself in the other person's position.

Remind yourself that impatience rarely has a positive effect in fact, it may even interfere with the person's ability to perform. Impatience will likely generate more conflict and stress, which will be counterproductive.

Although some people are naturally patient, the rest of us need to practice, for it to become a habit. Becoming more patient won't happen overnight, but persistence can pay off!

Patience is a vital quality in the workplace. It can reduce stress and conflict, lead to better working relationships, and help you to achieve your long-term life and career goals.

Many of us struggle with impatience. Learn to recognize the physical and emotional symptoms associated with it, and to identify the situations that trigger it.

When you understand the causes of your impatience, you can develop strategies to prevent or overcome it. These could include attending to your physical well-being by using deep breathing and relaxation techniques, and developing your empathy and emotional intelligence skills.

Asperitas and Cast Software partner to accelerate cloud migrations – VentureBeat

In theory, migrating apps to the cloud should be as simple as installing existing apps on virtual machines (VMs) running in an Amazon data center. It is a bit more challenging in practice, owing to the configuration settings used to set up these applications. There can be significant differences in how apps are configured on private enterprise servers compared with VMs in the cloud.

More importantly, enterprises can get the most mileage from a simple migration by tuning configuration settings for the cloud. This helps cloud apps, even those just running on cloud hardware, take advantage of features like scalability and dynamic provisioning. But it is often a complicated and manual process.

Asperitas, a cloud services company, and Cast Software, which makes software intelligence tools, have partnered to automate this process. Asperitas has an established Application Modernization Framework to help enterprises inventory existing apps and migrate them to the cloud. Meanwhile, Cast has been developing tools like Cast Highlight and Cast Imaging for analyzing software infrastructure at scale.

Asperitas specialists will use Cast Highlight to determine an apps cloud-readiness, open-source risk and agility. This will allow enterprises to prioritize the order in which they move apps to the cloud based on readiness and value to the company.

Legacy applications were written to run on physical enterprise servers. As a result, they miss out on dynamic scaling features built into the cloud. Failing to take advantage of these features also eliminates many cost benefits and the ability to handle spikes in demand.

In addition, legacy apps are often configured with relatively static configuration settings. They are written with specific on-premises environments in mind that rarely change. This impedes modern cloud development practices, which include creating new test environments for functional, performance and security testing, and then destroying them when no longer needed.

Derek Ashmore, application transformation principal at Asperitas, told VentureBeat, Both of these problems, and there are many more, can be traced back to how the application is written.

Source-code analysis tools like Cast Highlight can automatically identify these kinds of issues at scale. Without tooling, this type of code analysis is done by hand, which takes time and labor.

Additionally, its not as accurate and is subject to human error, Ashmore said.

The tool can also guide customers from an application portfolio perspective. Asperitas uses Cast Highlight to help customers determine which applications to move to the cloud first. It can also identify applications that are likely to require more refactoring and will take more time. And sometimes, it finds applications that are so anti-cloud-native, they need to be rewritten.

Were now better able to guide customers holistically at an application portfolio level as a result of the Cast partnership, Ashmore explained. While we could provide some guidance before the partnership, the breadth and depth of that guidance has greatly improved.

Asperitas has already worked with Cast to help a large financial institution formulate its application modernization efforts. It also uses Cast to help application developers identify specific code changes to make apps cloud-native.

Cast has several competitors doing static code analysis, such as Veracode, Checkmarx and Fortinet. Many tend to focus on general code quality and complexity. Ashmore does not feel they are as focused on preparing applications for the cloud.

Companies have been analyzing software codebases to calculate complexity and plan software engineering projects for decades. But now software intelligence is starting to support new capabilities thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and big data innovations.

Software analytics will exponentially improve from where it is today as artificial intelligence is increasingly used, Ashmore said. With that improvement will come higher quality information about applications and their limitations and vulnerabilities. I also believe that analytics will improve from a security perspective and make it easier to catch vulnerabilities earlier in the development process.

Globally-Distributed Databases and Going Multi-Regional for Optimized Data Recovery – Database Trends and Applications

Enterprise growth is a goal for most companies, yet it concurrently requires strategies in the event of data disaster or to maintain a regularly operable, productive system. With a cloud-native managed, multi-region infrastructure, enterprises can use their global presence as an advantage towards recovery methods.

DBTA held a webinar, Multi-Active Cloud-Native Database, featuring speaker Chad Tindel, principal NoSQL solutions architect for Amazon Web Services, to discuss DynamoDBs multi-region, disaster-prevention capabilities alongside Amazon DynamoDB Global Tables.

DynamoDBs capacity for multi-region server management provides a replication-based cushion in the event of disaster recovery scenarios, as well as for business continuitys sake.

If you deploy applications in multiple regions within AWS, each of those applications will have an assortment of microservices with an additional underlying AWS servicepresenting a prime opportunity for business failure if code stops working correctly, or errors are sustained consistently from cloud services. With multi-region application support, if a server fails, the architecture can be migrated to a different region for uninterrupted operability. A highly-distributed geographical customer base would also be a great candidate for multi-region architecture, according to Tindel, considering its ability to lower latency to overall improve the end-user experience.

Naturally, DynamoDB still functions well with single region systems. Yet it cannot provide consistent low latency, in a global sense, or 99.999% availability SLA (compared to a single regions availability SLA of 99.99%).

Backup and restore options with DynamoDB, as a result of multi-region architectures, enables several modes of recovery that can revive systems in case of failure. With on-demand backups, users can acquire a moment in time snapshot of the data for long-term, data archival and compliance. Point-in-time-restore, or PITR, allows for short term retention and data corruption protection through a holistic, continuously running log of transactions from the last 35 days. Regardless of your choice in backup and recovery, DynamoDB allows for hundreds of TB to be backed up instantly with no performance impact to your data tables.

Amazon DynamoDBs Global Tables are comprehensive tools to ensure recovery within a replication relationship across servers, around the world. With two separate DynamoDB tables in each region that have an established replication relationship, data is synched cross-regionally and bi-directionally. This provides the ability to write and read in all tables simultaneously and globally. Writes to any replicas are repeated in all other tables, with more than 27 regions available now.

Tindel stressed viewers to understand their enterprise missions more deeply to determine if a multi-region architecture would suit their needs. Considering how much data you can afford to recreate or lose, how quickly you must recover systems in event of a failure, and what the cost of downtime is, are critical in evaluating what your enterprise requires for recovery and backup instances.

To see examples and demos of DynamoDBs multi-region capabilities from Tindel, as well as for more information about global-scale operations strategies, you can view an archived version of the webinar here.

Proton VPN vs Windscribe in 2022 [Which Free VPN is Best?] – Cloudwards

Proton VPN vs Windscribe: Theyre the two champions of the free VPN world. Much like ExpressVPN and NordVPN consistently battle it out for the top spot among paid VPNs, Canada-based Windscribe and Switzerland-based Proton VPN fight for the hearts and minds of the budget-conscious VPN user.

For those who want to stay safe and anonymous online without paying through the nose, both Proton VPN and Windscribe are two of the best VPNs to consider but theyre far from identical. When the two VPNs face off in the arenas of speed, feature quality, pricing, security and more, theres often a clear winner.

If youve been wracking your brain trying to figure out which of these free VPNs is better for you, follow along as we pit Proton VPN against Windscribe in 10 different categories. We hope we can help you figure out which free VPN will meet your needs.

Yes, Proton VPN is a strong, secure VPN with a free plan that goes far beyond most of the competition. Its the only free VPN that doesnt limit how much data you can use.

Yes. Windscribe VPN leapt into action when two of its servers were seized in Ukraine, closing any security holes that might have made it possible to spy on user traffic. Also, after years in business, its never been caught violating its no-logs policy.

Scoring is simple for this free VPN matchup. Well compare Proton VPN and Windscribe in 10 areas: speed, features, pricing (including free plan limitations), security (protection from third parties), online privacy (protection from the VPN provider itself), streaming, torrenting, server locations, user-friendliness and customer support.

Each time a VPN service wins or ties in an area, it gets one point. Whichever VPN service ends with the most points is the winner.

Wed like to caution you, however, that the winner isnt necessarily the VPN everybody should use. Some internet users might place a priority on areas that others ignore. If you dont torrent, for example, the best VPN for torrenting wont help you much. Heres a quick rundown of each rounds winners.

As you can see, its a very close battle. Both VPNs have their excellent points we even had one draw in privacy. The fact that Windscribe technically won is less important than knowing what each VPN service does well. The best VPN is whatever the best VPN is for you.

If youre a new VPN user, you want to watch a lot of streaming content or speed is important to you, choose Proton VPN. If you do a lot of torrenting, want a free version with more server locations, or youre on a budget, pick Windscribe.

For more helpful content on both services, see our Proton VPN review or our Windscribe review.

Speed depends on whether youll be using the VPN for free or paying for premium service. Both VPNs limit free users to certain servers: Proton VPN offers three country locations and Windscribe offers 10. Because theyre accessible to more people, free servers tend to have higher loads and slower speeds.

We tested the free and premium servers on both VPNs, then compared their performance to our unprotected speeds. The winning VPN is the one with the fastest speeds and the least lag.

First, lets test the free servers. Windscribe doesnt have a free server in Japan, so we used the nearest server in Hong Kong instead.

The numbers mostly favor Windscribes free servers, but its a small advantage. On the closest servers in the United States, Windscribe increased latency by a factor of three, and dropped download speed to about 55% of our unprotected rates. However, compared to Proton VPN which increased latency 8.5 times and dropped speeds below 50% Windscribe looks better.

The only exception is on extremely different servers. Proton VPN looked better in Japan than it did in the United States, while Windscribes speeds dropped sharply in Hong Kong.

The fact that Proton VPN did worse in the free VPN speed tests isnt surprising, as it promises only medium speeds on the free servers.

On the paid plan servers, its a different story.

Proton VPN looks faster in just about every location. Its speeds still arent incredible, especially in Brazil, Australia and South Africa, but it beats out Windscribe at every turn. Given that the difference on the free servers wasnt quite so stark, were prepared to call Proton VPN the winner in this category.

Both Proton VPN and Windscribe strike a good balance with their feature sets, feeling neither bare-bones nor overstuffed.

Proton VPN does an excellent job of integrating its features into its core functionality. Everything is there to make you safer, directly or indirectly. Its Secure Core servers go beyond a traditional multi-hop VPN connection by ensuring that at least one of the data centers you connect through is a highly secured physical location in Switzerland, Iceland or Sweden.

Other than its unlimited free version, Secure Core is Proton VPNs most significant differentiator.

Its also got a malware and ad blocker, NetShield, though it doesnt use machine learning to predict attacks it just blocks any website on a database of known offenders. Theres also a kill switch, and Windows and Android users get access to split tunneling.

Windscribe has a slightly different feature set, but youll see some of the same hits. Theres a kill switch (called a firewall) and split tunneling on Windows, macOS and Android. Some more unique features include the ability to use a Windows computer running Windscribe as a secure hotspot, and a browser extension that allows anyone to use a double-hop connection.

If you run Windows, you can use Windscribe as a secure hotspot. On macOS, this is all youll see.

Other than the VPN, though, Windscribes most characteristic offering has to be R.O.B.E.R.T. On the free version, R.O.B.E.R.T. is a customizable blocker of ads and malware that lets you come up with blocklists and allowlists for specific domains.

Upgrading to Windscribe Pro or using the build-a-plan option adds lists for social media, porn, gambling sites, fake news domains and more.

So far, so similar. However, Proton VPN pulls ahead by offering specialty servers, much like the ones available on NordVPN. These servers are optimized for certain tasks, including P2P file sharing and Tor servers for the popular anonymity network. Windscribe has nothing of the sort, though torrenting and Onion over VPN are allowed on all its servers.

Proton VPN also gets a few bonus points for being integrated into the Proton family of privacy tools, which includes Proton Mail (email with strong end-to-end encryption read our Proton Mail review). Then theres the profiles feature, which saves configurations for easy repeat access.

All in all, theres just more you can do than with Proton VPN, and its all executed well.

Well start this round by comparing the free plans offered by Windscribe and Proton VPN. Both are known to be generous free VPNs, and both come with unlimited bandwidth (though not data). Which one comes with more?

Proton VPN Free is one of the few free VPNs that doesnt impose a data cap. You can use it as much as you like without paying. However, youre limited to a few servers in the United States, Japan and the Netherlands. You also cant use most of its features; Secure Core, Tor servers and NetShield are all off-limits.

Windscribes free VPN takes a different approach. It does have a data cap, but its one of the highest caps in the business up to 15GB if you provide an email address and tweet about the VPN service. You can use servers in 10 countries and get limited access to R.O.B.E.R.T., plus unlimited bandwidth.

Windscribe even offers unlimited simultaneous connections for free (Proton VPN only gives you one). Many competitive VPN providers only support up to five devices (Surfshark is a notable exception), so this makes Windscribe very attractive.

Proton VPN Plus costs $9.99 per month, $5.99 per month for a year, or $4.99 per month for two years. Paying unlocks 10 simultaneous connections and the complete server network.

In addition to these plans, you can get package deals on all of Protons products.

Windscribe is cheaper, costing $9 per month or $5.75 per month for a year. Theres no two-year option, but you can save even more by building your own plan. This option costs $1 per server location (with a minimum of $3), plus an additional $1 for unlimited data. Thats far cheaper per month than any Proton VPN plan and you only have to commit for a month.

Both of Windscribes paid plans cost less than their Proton VPN counterparts, but it lacks a two-year plan.

Windscribe wins out here for most users. The only reason to prefer Proton VPNs pricing is if you do a lot of HD streaming and cant afford a VPN account. In that specific situation, the lack of a data limit on this service will come in handy.

The core VPN security features of Windscribe and Proton VPN are almost indistinguishable. Both are built around the same VPN protocols: OpenVPN, WireGuard and IKEv2. All three of these protocols are known to be secure, featuring the strongest encryption currently available to the public. Both VPNs passed all our DNS leak tests.

However, Windscribe is the winning service for two reasons: Its got additional protocols for obfuscation, and its been tested in the real world.

Windscribe offers Stealth and WStunnel, two protocols that conceal your VPN connection from anyone who blocks or censors all VPNs equally. This strong encryption makes it a great VPN for China if youre planning a visit.

Its not easy to find out how to change protocols on Windscribe. Go to the connection tab, then change the mode from auto to manual to see the dropdown menu.

Windscribe also faced a real-world security test in 2021, when police in Ukraine confiscated two of its servers. After realizing that a perfect storm of bugs might have let the police spy on user activities, Windscribe overhauled its certification process for data centers to ensure the incident never happened again.

That response makes us a bit more confident in Windscribes security than in that of Proton VPN, which has never undergone an equivalent trial by fire.

This round is where weve got our first tie, as Proton VPN and Windscribe have functionally identical privacy policies.

Windscribe claims that it keeps the minimum logs possible on user behavior, and deletes them all as soon as you disconnect from the server. Its regular transparency report tracks requests from law enforcement, none of which have been fulfilled.

Windscribes privacy policy makes its pro-user philosophy clear.

Proton VPN claims about the same that it doesnt keep any data that could be used to incriminate a user on any charges.

Its own transparency report cites a Swiss legal case in which Proton VPN could not provide evidence because its logs didnt exist (however, we couldnt find a news story that directly named the case in question). It also recently passed an independent audit of its no-logs policy.

This assurance opens Proton VPNs well-written, audit-backed privacy policy.

Although Windscribe hasnt been audited recently, its very infrastructure makes it impossible for it to keep logs, so weve no doubt it would pass any test. Proton VPN is built the same way, so were giving both services the win.

To succeed at streaming, a VPN needs to check two boxes: the ability to bypass firewalls on Netflix and other platforms, and high enough download speed to watch videos without stuttering.

We tested both VPNs on six streaming platforms: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, HBO Max and Disney+.

Proton VPN was able to access all six with great video quality, even on the U.K. server. Windscribe did as well, but we had to try more servers, and the whole process generally took longer. Therefore, Proton VPN is our winner for streaming.

Both Proton VPN and Windscribe are fine VPNs for torrenting, especially when you compare their free plans to other free options. That said, can we crown a winner here?

To start, both VPNs allow torrenting. Proton VPN has some specialized servers adapted to encourage torrenting, though theyre only available on paid plans. Windscribe supports torrenting on any server without a no P2P icon.

Since we already know Proton VPN has better average download speeds, you might ask why were giving Windscribe the edge. Two words: split tunneling. Both VPNs offer split tunneling on all plans, letting you run your torrent client through the VPN while using the internet at full speed without protection. However, Windscribe makes it available on more platforms.

For this category, were not just comparing the strict sizes of each VPNs server network, but also how well-distributed the server locations are. Its hard to get adequate performance without a server relatively close to you.

Windscribe has more server locations in general, with 112 data centers in 69 countries. Proton VPN lags slightly behind with 89 locations in 64 countries. Windscribe also offers far more servers on its free plan, with 10 locations, compared to Proton VPNs three.

Proton VPN has plenty of server locations in Latin America, and even a few in Africa, but not as many as Windscribe.

Both services have several locations in areas that other VPNs often overlook, such as Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Since both networks are equally expansive, Windscribe wins on sheer numbers.

Downloading both VPNs is straightforward it happens almost automatically once youve paid for it. Its when you start using the apps that they begin to diverge.

Proton VPN thoughtfully integrates its features into its desktop interface.

Proton VPN has one of the best VPN interfaces. Its visually pleasing, dark-hued apps pack a lot of features into a small space without ever feeling overstuffed. Using Proton VPN feels like navigating a perfectly arranged room. It connects quickly, even to slower servers.

Windscribe isnt nearly as well-designed. Its desktop apps are so compressed that they look like mobile apps, and even the mobile apps look cluttered. Features are listed haphazardly without much explanation of what they do. Its daunting for the non-technical user, and it doesnt help that connecting to servers can be inexplicably sluggish.

Windscribes UI is a jumbled mess.

However, this category is closer than it might seem. Its also important to consider how many devices and platforms the VPN works on. Both VPNs work on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. Windscribe regains some points here by having browser extensions (Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge) and apps for smart TVs, neither of which youll find on Proton VPN.

Windscribe also sells pre-configured routers. Meanwhile, Proton requires you to set up a router VPN manually. Its not quite enough to overcome its misguided interface, but Windscribes wider variety of apps does make up some ground.

Neither of these VPNs has great customer support. Windscribe has a decent knowledgebase, but theres no live chat; youll have to make do with an auto-responding bot. The articles are mostly useful, but they frequently try to be funny at inappropriate times.

At least its possible to submit a support ticket, and response times are quick.

Proton VPN is worse, though. The knowledgebase is scant, with no clear system for producing helpful content. It seems that new information is added only when a user reports a specific bug. Its website often seems to be hiding the support ticket form on purpose. At least on Windscribe.com, its easy to find, so Windscribe wins by default.

Deciding the battle of Windscribe vs Proton VPN isnt easy. Both VPN providers are strong, and the competition has clearly made them both stronger.

In general, Proton VPN is faster and easier to use. It unblocks streaming platforms more consistently, and unlimited data means you can actually stream more than an hour of video per month on its free VPN.

Windscribe, despite being harder to use and slightly slower than Proton VPN, rises above it in a number of ways. Its security is more battle-tested, its server network more expansive and its customer support more humanist. It may fall behind in certain particulars, but overall Windscribe is the stronger VPN, on both the paid version and the free.

In the Windscribe vs Proton VPN contest, which do you prefer? Or do you use another one altogether? Leave a comment with your opinion. Thanks for reading!

How to force backup your Android to Google Cloud: Everything you need to know – NerdsChalk

Google makes switching or moving between Android phones an easier process as all of your data remains intact no matter which device youre currently using. This may come in handy when you misplace your phone, damage it, or for some reason the phone itself stops working. Android backups can help you restore your device data on any other Android device, so you dont need to worry about losing important data like your contacts and messages when things go wrong.

In this post, well explain everything you need to know about backing up your Android device to Google.

When you back up your device data from Android, Google will save most of what you store on your phone to its servers and encrypt them for protection. You can back up the following data from your Android phone to Google:

While the aforementioned elements contribute to a lot of your phones data, your backup would not include files from your device storage as they may occupy more space. For storing files from your local storage, you will need to upload them to Google Drive manually from your Android device.

In order to get your device data backed up from Android to Google, you need to take care of the following requirements:

Once youve taken care of the requirements stated above, you can move on to the main process of backing up your Android phone to Google. To get started, open the Settings app on your Android phone.

Inside Settings, scroll down and select Google.

On the next screen, tap on Backup.

If you have a Google One subscription, you should see the Backup your device with Google One screen. If yes, tap on Turn on at the bottom right corner.

In the Backup screen that appears, tap on Back up now.

Your Android device will now start backing up the data to Google. The process may take a few minutes to hours depending on the amount of data that needs to be transferred. You will be able to see the progress at the top of the Backup screen as well as on the Notifications screen.

Once the backup process is complete, the progress bar inside the Backup screen should vanish. You will now able to see the amount of data your Android device transferred to Google with a breakdown of the data sizes listed under Backup details.

Once youve managed to back up your Android device over to Google, you can tweak certain aspects of it to customize how Google transfers your data and what gets moved to its servers. You can control the quality of pictures that get backed up and choose which folders Google can move photos from. Additionally, you can select which Google service gets its data stored and whether or not you want your device to perform a backup when youre connected to a metered network.

To manage your backup settings, open the Settings app on your Android phone.

Inside Settings, scroll down and select Google.

On the next screen, tap on Backup.

In the Backup screen that appears, you should be able to see what all data have previously been backed up under Backup details. In this section, you can tweak two components Photos and videos and Google Account data.

When you tap on Photos and videos, you will see the Back up and sync screen similar to the one on the Google Photos app. Scroll down on this screen to access more options.

Under Settings, you can tap on Upload size to choose the quality in which your photos and videos get stored on Google cloud.

When you select Upload size, youll have three options to choose from Original quality, Storage saver, and Express. You can select your preferred quality from here.

On the Back up and sync screen, you will be able to set a daily limit of data that Google can use from your cellular plan to back up your pictures. To do this, tap on Mobile data usage.

From the next screen, you can set a daily limit from these options 5 MB, 10 MB, 30 MB, or Unlimited. You can also configure whether or not you wish to back up videos over data or allow backups when youre roaming.

Inside the Back up and sync screen, you can also select which folders pictures are backed up from. To do that, tap on Back up device folders under Settings.

On the next screen, turn on the toggles respective to the folder whose pictures and videos you want to be transferred to Google.

Besides your pictures, messages, contacts, and apps, a backup of your Android device also includes data from the Google services you often use, so that the data remains the same no matter which device you use to access these services. You can configure which of the data gets backed up and which ones stay unsynced by selecting Google Account data under Backup details inside the Backup screen.

This will reveal the Account Sync screen that shows a list of all Google services from where your data can be synced. You can controls which of these services your data is backed up from individually. You can disable or enable backup for Calendar, Contacts, Docs, Drive, Drive, Gmail, Google Fit, Google News, Keep notes, People details, Sheets, and Tasks in Calendar. To enable a service for Android backup, turn on the toggle respective to that particular service.

Similarly, you can prevent a service from getting backed up by turning off its toggle on this screen.

When you enable a Google service from this list, its data will start getting backed up instantly.

By default, when you turn on backup on Android, your device will wait for you to connect to a wireless network and a charging adapter to start the backup process. If you dont have a Wi-Fi network to connect to, you can configure your Android backup to work with your cellular data or on a metered wireless network.

To do that, go to Settings > Google > Backup and scroll down to the bottom of the screen. Here, turn on the Back up using mobile or metered Wi-Fi data toggle to allow your device to back up using a metered connection.

If the backup doesnt start immediately, tap on Back up now at the top of the same screen.

Your Android device will now start moving all available data to Google cloud via your cellular network.

When you back up your Android device, the data from your phone is uploaded to Googles servers where theyre stored for as long as you keep it. The data thats uploaded to Google is encrypted with your Google account password as well as your phones screen lock PIN, pattern, or password on some occasions.

Since this data is uploaded to Google with your identity, the backup counts against your Google accounts storage. If youre using the free storage, you will need to make sure all of your data on Google including the Android backup takes up less than 15 GB. If not, you may need to subscribe to Google One, to extend your available storage limit.

After youve enabled backups for the first time, your device should make newer backups when its charging and sitting idle for at least 2 hours. If youre backing up your device for the very first time, it may take you a while for the backup process to complete, sometimes up to 24 hours if theres a lot of data that needs to be uploaded to Google.

If you have multiple backups of your Android device to Google and youre worried that these backups may soon end up taking a significant part of your Google account storage, you can delete your backups at any time using the Google Drive app. So, to be able to delete your Android backups, mark sure you have the latest version of the Google Drive app installed from the Google Play Store.

To delete an older Android backup, open the Google Drive app on your Android device.

Inside Google Drive, tap on the Hamburger icon (marked by three horizontal lines) at the top left corner.

In the sidebar that appears, select Backups.

You will now arrive at the Backups screen. From here, select the device backup you want to remove from Google cloud.

On the next screen, you will see a breakdown of all data that has been copied from your Android device. To delete this backup, tap on the 3-dots icon at the top right corner of the screen.

In the overflow menu that appears, select Delete backup.

Google Drive will now show a prompt asking you to confirm your action. To proceed, tap on Delete on this prompt.

Your Android backup will now be instantly deleted from Google Drive.

When the backup is enabled, your Android device will back up the device data and send it to Google periodically. If you dont wish to create new backups in the future, you can disable backup on Android. For that, open the Settings app on your Android phone.

Inside Settings, scroll down and select Google.

On the next screen, tap on Backup.

In the Backup screen that appears, turn off the Backup by Google One toggle to prevent your device from creating new backups.

You will now see a prompt on your screen asking for your confirmation. To proceed, tap on Turn off & delete.

Backup will now be disabled on your Android device and any previous backup you created and sent to Google will be deleted from your account permanently.

Yes. When you create a backup of your Android device on Google, the data thats stored on Google counts against the storage limit of your Google account. If youre using a free Google account, you can only back up up to 15 GB of data onto Google, provided no other Google service contributes to a significant chunk of your account storage.

If you dont have sufficient storage for a backup, you will need to opt for a Google One subscription that starts at $1.99 per month for 100 GB of storage.

Yes. In addition to being a convenient option, backing up to Google is also safe. At any time, all of your data that gets backed up is encrypted in transit with your Google Account password. Google also safeguards some of this data by encrypting it with your phones screen lock PIN, pattern, or password. Besides this, Google will prevent your backup from getting into the wrong hands by erasing backups of a device you havent used even once in the last 57 days.

If youve followed the above steps but you still arent able to back up your Android phones data, then its probably because of any of the following reasons:

If its taking too long for your Android device data to get backed up to Google, it could be because yourdevice is connected to the internet using cellular data. Connecting to a Wi-Fi network should speed up the backup process.

Backup can also get slower if there is a lot of data that needs to be uploaded to Google. As is the case with anything online, the time it takes to upload something depends on the amount of data thats being uploaded. If youre performing a device backup for the first time on Android, Google says the process may take up to 24 hours for all your data to get transferred from Android to Google.

Yes. For the most part, you can erase your current phone to factory settings and use an existing backup to restore the data back again on Android. You will get the option to restore your device from a backup when you set up your Android phone again after a factory reset.

As part of the restore process, your device will be able to re-install your previous apps with its app data intact, compile your call history and messages, add all your contacts from Google to your phone, and show all pictures and videos that were backed up. You may also be able to see your previous device settings applied to your Android phone after the restore is complete.

Just like restoring your device after erasing it, the backup data from your Android device can also be used to set up a new phone. The process of restoring from a backup will be similar to the one above but will only work if the phone youre switching to runs on the same or an updated version of Android as the one on your old phone.

Your new phone will be able to access your old phones device backup for as long as you dont delete it yourself. However, since the backup data only remains in your account for an active device, you wont be able to restore data to your new phone if you havent used your older phone even once in the last 57 days.

Ideally, anything you back up from your Android device to your Google account stays online and accessible forever. This backup will only get erased when:

Thats all you need to know about force-backing up your Android device to Google Cloud.

AI-driven assistance with software adoption and training – Startup.info

When does a start-up cease to become a start-up and become an established business? Theres no hard and fast definition of course, but early scale and rapid growth can soon take a start-up of say, five or ten people into 20, soon 50 and before you know it 200+ employees.

And guess what lots of new starters to such businesses complain about the most when newly hired? Very often its poor onboarding and struggling to adopt new software platforms. And thats not just the hugely diverse ways of communicating that some start-ups tend to have little or no discipline over.

Its not uncommon for companies that dont have a strong Chief Technical Officer (CTO) to have so many different communication platforms that everyone gets confused, because some people say Oh, I always use Trello and others Google docs is the only way to go It ends up as a total mess and kills productivity worse than almost anything. Here are just a few of all these collaboration tools:

Imagine trying to use half a dozen of those packages in a new job in your first week! But the good news is that when it comes to learning new software, a technology is rapidly emerging that allows employees to adopt new software and updates quickly by using artificial intelligence (AI) as a teacher. These facilities are known as Digital Adoption Platforms (DAPs) and one of the leading players in that market is WalkMe.

The principle behind DAPs is simple, but the execution of achieving their goals is extremely complex, hence the need for AI so that a DAP can function. Imagine a newbie employee on day one or two being introduced to a new CRM system. They might have to create a new client and theyre unsure how. Obviously, there will have been an induction, but as soon as the human trainer has left their side, the rookie might struggle. Embarrassed to admit their failings, they might be tempted to click around, enter some information and hope for the best but such foolhardiness can lead to expensive mistakes.

Instead, a DAP is bolted-on to the software in question. It can be seen as a teaching and learning layer of software that can hyper-personalize its output to give assistance only when its needed. For example, a new employee on their first day will make a lot of mistakes and the DAP will be offering guidance at almost every screen. But as the person makes fewer mistakes because theyre learning, the DAP recognizes that the user has mastered certain tasks and will therefore not disturb or distract the user by giving help where it would be redundant.

Start-up leaders would be wise to remember the confusion caused by this plethora of platforms, and senior managers often network at events like SummerSaaS where Software as a Service (SaaS) providers look for business at such trade events. This anticipates the next obvious question, if SaaS runs in the cloud, can a DAP still work alongside the platform which it is designed to teach? The good news is yes because DAPs likewise run on cloud servers, so application programming interfaces (APIs) can easily allow them to function alongside the core product.

Another issue that start-up C-suite executives would do well to consider is the fact that software updates and new emerging platforms will soon accelerate now the post Covid-19 pandemic microchip shortage is coming to an end. Chip manufacturers are now starting to catch up with demand, which means more servers, hence more software available to run on them.

The acceleration of technology progress is exponential when plotted on a time versus software update and adoption curve. So the need for learning new software updates, at least while humans are still required in the loop, before being replaced by AI, isnt going away anytime soon. Its no surprise then DAPs are certainly going to become an essential part of every organizations technology toolkit sooner than later.

The concept of workers jobs being replaced by automation, in a modern context by AI and robotics, is nothing new; think back to the Saboteurs and Luddites of the industrial revolution. The word sabotage was originally used in the 1800s, from the French term for sabots wooden clogs, which workers would throw into mill machinery in order to cause damage. The logic was that the longer a machine was under repair, the more work would be available for humans in the factory concerned. Luddites similarly smashed up weaving looms in the textile mills in England at around the same period of history. They were so called because a man called Ned Ludd was the ringleader of a gang of workers who would irreparably damage machines to attempt to safeguard their jobs.

But many people would argue that AI and automation like DAPs arent enemies of humans, all thats needed is re-training so that workers can do the jobs that robots still cant. In fact, the concept of how AI is affecting our daily lives has recently been the subject of American government legislation an AI bill of rights to ensure that safeguards against wholesale disadvantage to people is mitigated.

In summary, the way we adapt to software changes will soon be much quicker and more efficient. And no, humans dont have to worry about Robocop standing over their desks just yet!
