Jordan Peterson Says Caitlyn Jenner ‘Paved the Way’ for Trans Children Bill – Newsweek

Jordan Peterson has stated in a social media post that Caitlyn Jenner "paved the way" for California Assembly Bill 957 (AB 957), part of which would see parents' custody affected by whether they affirm their child's chosen gender.

Amid a rise of anti-trans sentiment across the U.S., AB 957 has sparked opposition in recent weeks. Some detractors have gone as far as to say that if parents don't affirm their child's chosen gender, they could be charged with child abuse.

Per the bill text, which was authored by 11th District Assemblywoman Lori Wilson, AB 957 "would include a parent's affirmation of the child's gender identity as part of the health, safety, and welfare of the child."

Other criteria would include the amount of contact a child has with a parent, as well as the nature of the contact. The bill, said Wilson, is meant for the protection of trans youth.

Republican Jennerwho ran in a 2021 race to replace California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, but gained just 1 percent of the votehas publicly declared her opposition to the bill.

Taking to Twitter recently, the 1976 Olympic decathlon gold medalist, who came out as transgender in 2015, wrote: "Heartbreaking emails sent to my office, more and more frequently, after parents are losing their young child being transitioned by another parent, after the parents divorce."

"Laws like CA AB 957 are horrifying govt overreach!" Jenner concluded.

"And your stunningly well-marketed transition paved the way, my dear @Caitlyn_Jenner," tweeted Canadian psychologist and media personality Peterson in response. Peterson has made headlines in the past for refusing to refer to people by their chosen gender pronouns.

Assemblywoman Wilson defended the bill in mid-June, saying that it would seek to protect children from being in the custody of a parent who is openly antagonistic and not supporting of them. She also said that a parent affirming their child's chosen gender would not supersede other factors in a custody dispute.

"It is not taking away any other factor," Wilson explained, per CBS News. "If a parent is abusive to their child, I don't care what name they use for their child, I don't care with what pronouns they use. That child should not be with that parent."

"We are giving judges tools by which to measure health, safety and welfare," she went on. "This is not intended to create a sliding scale for a parent that is affirming their children. It should be one of the factors, not the factor."

"No one is out to get your kids," Wilson added. "No one is out to force your kids to be anything they shouldn't be. It's about really protecting children who are caught up in the family court system from a parent that is antagonistic or non-affirming."

Jenner's comments on AB 957 come several weeks after she said the number of people openly identifying as transgender is "skyrocketing" at a "disturbing" rate, blaming "indoctrination" and an "oversaturation of the topic."

In a since-deleted tweet, conservative YouTuber Blaire White, who is also transgender, recently wrote: "'There is a trans genocide!!' they screamed as the trans population literally skyrockets globally."

"And skyrocketing at levels we have never seen before!" Jenner said in agreement. "Insane!!! Disturbing in fact!"

Responding to Jenner's statement, one Twitter user proposed that there were two "likely possibilities: They are causing gender dysphoria in young people through social contagion. They are mis-diagnosing young people with other issues as having gender dysphoria."

"Agreedit's become a type of 'fix all' almost," Jenner wrote back.

"There's a Munchausen's by proxy thing going on where mentally [ill] parents and teachers are transferring their need to be seen as special onto their unsuspecting children," another Twitter user chimed in during the discussion.

"Indoctrination and oversaturation of the topicled by the radical leftists to destroy the family unit to create bigger govt," Jenner replied. "I obviously believe trans is realbut very very very rare, not the numbers we are seeing today."

Fox News contributor Jenner has been an outspoken critic of transgender women competing in sports against other women. She stepped up her efforts in April, with the launch of an initiative called Fairness First. The political action committee describes itself as "a big tent movement, non-partisan in nature, with the intention of protecting women and girls in sportespecially in light of recent events with radical gender ideology."

Oli London, a British influencer who previously identified as transracial, gender neutral and transgender, serves as a spokesperson for Fairness First.

Meanwhile, Peterson has faced backlash for comments he has made regarding gender. In July 2022, his Twitter account was suspended indefinitely after he refused to apologize for comments he made about trans actor Elliot Page. It was later reinstated when Elon Musk took over the social media platform.

Earlier this month, Peterson accused transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney of "parodying women" in a way that "makes blackface appear loving." Days later, he mocked Demi Lovato on social media over her return to using she/her pronouns after announcing that she would be going by nonbinary they/them pronouns.

Ex-UFC fighter trolls Jordan Peterson for threatening violence against people who call him "cis" – Sportskeeda

Modified Jun 28, 2023 21:42 GMT

Ben Askren called out Dr. Jordan Peterson after the latter threatened people who call him cis.

Cisgender is a term that refers to people who identify as the gender they were given at birth. The use of the phrase has become normalized throughout the transgender community, which has upset Dr. Peterson, a viral Canadian psychologist.

A news outlet called spiked recently released an article about the cis phenomenon. Peterson responded to the article being shared on Twitter by saying:

There were various responses to the 61-year-olds comment. Some people supported his point of view, while others questioned what his threats entailed. Askren, a former world MMA world champion in Bellator and ONE Championship, called Petersons bluff with this response:

Peterson has done a phenomenal job growing his social media platforms, leading to seven million YouTube subscribers and millions of followers on Instagram and Twitter. Although Askren called out the viral psychologist, he does agree with his point of view about being called cisgender.

Ben Askrens response to Jordan Peterson on Twitter had nothing to do with the cisgender debate. The former MMA world champion was focused on making a point that the 61-year-old should not threaten people without fighting skills. One fan responded to Askrens comment by saying:

Askren clarified his point of view to the fan:

Askren retired from MMA in October 2019 after being submitted by Demian Maia. In April 2021, Funky returned for one last fight in a boxing match against Jake Paul, which didnt go as planned. Paul secured a first-round knockout and sent the former world champion into retirement.

Askren walked away from combat sports with an MMA record of 19-2. He left his mark on several promotions, including Bellator (9-0), ONE Championship (6-0, one no-contest), and the UFC (1-2). The former University of Missouri wrestler will always be remembered for his wrestling skills.

YouTube censors another RFK Jr interview; Kennedy says platform protecting political establishment – Fox News

Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced online that another of his interviews has been removed from social media giant YouTube.

Kennedy announced that his interview with former New York Post reporter Al Guart had been taken off the prominent video-sharing platform.

The Democrat challenger to President Biden in the 2024 primaries has already seen one of his interviews removed from YouTube due to an apparent violation of the website's vaccine misinformation policy.

"[YouTube]just pulled another of my videos, with former NY Post political reporter [Guart]," Kennedy wrote in a Tuesday Twitter thread. "People made a big deal about Russia supposedly manipulating internet information to influence a Presidential election. Shouldnt we be worried when giant tech corporations do the same?"

"When industry and government are so closely linked, there is little difference between private and government censorship," he continued. "Suppression of free speech is not suddenly OK when it is contracted out to the private corporations that control the public square."

Kennedy wrote that the "Twitter Files proved that numerous government agencies, acting through the FBI, told Twitter whom to censor" and that "Twitter complied."

"Doubtless, Facebook, YouTube, and the rest received similar requests," Kennedy wrote.

"In the case of my interview with [Guart], [YouTube] probably acted on its own initiative," he continued. "It has internalized the political wishes of the establishment to the point where it knows what to censor without being told."

Google, YouTubes parent company, did not respond to Fox News Digitals request for comment.

Kennedys comments came after YouTube took down a different interview between the Democrat presidential candidate and podcast host Jordan Peterson, citing the websites vaccine misinformation policy.

This month, both Kennedy and Peterson tweeted that the video-sharing website had taken down their interview from an episode of Petersons show and accused the social media platform of censorship and interfering with a presidential campaign.

A Google spokesperson previously told Fox News Digital that YouTube "removed a video from the Jordan Peterson channel for violating YouTubes general vaccine misinformation policy, which prohibits content that alleges that vaccines cause chronic side effects, outside of rare side effects that are recognized by health authorities."

The spokesperson also said the company "removed a video from the Jordan Peterson channel featuring a conversation with Robert F Kennedy Jr." and that Google's "Community Guidelines apply equally to all creators on our platform, regardless of political viewpoint."

"Under our general vaccine misinformation policies, we remove false claims about currently administered vaccines that are approved and confirmed to be safe and effective by local health authorities and the WHO. This includes content that falsely alleges that approved vaccines are dangerous and cause chronic health effects, claims that vaccines do not reduce transmission or contraction of disease, or contains misinformation on the substances contained in vaccines will be removed. This would include content that falsely says that approved vaccines cause autism, cancer or infertility, or that substances in vaccines can track those who receive them."

"Our policies not only cover specific routine immunizations like for measles or Hepatitis B, but also apply to general statements about vaccines," the spokesperson said. "Content that would otherwise violate our Community Guidelines may stay on YouTube when it has Educational, Documentary, Scientific, or Artistic (EDSA) context, such as providing countervailing views to the remarks that violate our policies."

In the interview, Kennedy said that "a lot of the sexual dysphoria" America is seeing comes from exposure to chemicals in the water.

‘Rogers: The Musical’ Comes to Disneyland in New Trailer – Collider

We can do this all day. Sit and watch a 30-minute musical about Captain America, that is. Disney has unveiled the trailer for their new musical, Rogers: The Musical, a one-act theater production which will be held at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure Park for a limited time, June 30 through August 31, 2023.

Embarking on a timeless journey filled with heroism, time-travel, and love, this captivating approximately 30-minute spectacle showcases a gifted ensemble of singers and dancers who breathe life into the legendary tale of Steve Rogers, widely known as Captain America. Accompanied by the remarkable presence of Peggy Carter, Nick Fury, and a select few Avengers, Rogers: The Musical intertwines the realms of imagination and reality, drawing inspiration from the fictional Broadway musical showcased in the inaugural episode of the Disney+ series Hawkeye.

Disney Live Entertainment joins forces with acclaimed book writer Hunter Bell, known for his Tony Award-nominated work on "[title of show]," and Grammy-winning composer Christopher Lennertz, who has crafted five brand-new songs, accompanied by the lyrical prowess of Jordan Peterson and Alex Karukas. The show will also include Save The City from Hawkeye (written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman) and Star Spangled Man from the film Captain America: The First Avenger (written by Alan Menken and David Zippel).

In Hawkeye, the limited Marvel Cinematic Universe series, our titular character, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) takes his kids to get in some culture by going to see a brand new musical opening on Broadway. This one hits slightly closer to home, though.

Clint Barton witnesses the astounding popularity achieved by the Avengers firsthand as he experiences the fictional stage production titled "Rogers: The Musical." The theatrical performance, complete with a magnificent and awe-inspiring musical sequence, showcases the grandeur associated with the Avengers' legacy. At least, that's how everyone else sees it. For Clint,

"Save the City" was purposefully crafted to embody the quintessential, over-the-top spectacle, complete with generic lyrics and somewhat lackluster writing that playfully jest at New York and even some of the Avengers themselves. The chorus brims with motivational phrases like "rah-rah, fight the fight," reaching its pinnacle with the memefamous line "I can do this all day!" that ramps up the deliberate cheese factor. As the song approaches its conclusion, it intricately portrays each of the Avengers, subtly teasing Hawkeye for his lack of superpowers, while showering praise upon his teammates for their god-like abilities or unparalleled beauty a comically mischievous touch within a musical intended to celebrate the Avengers.

In the post-credits sting of the show, fans were shown the full performance of "Save The City" and fans loved it so much, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige brought with him a pop-up version of the show and its chief musical number to last September's D23 Expo. Fast forward 9 months, and here we are - tomorrow is opening day! We'd tell Cap to break a leg, but we're not actually sure he can. Check out the trailer for Rogers: The Musical down below.

House Judiciary Chairman Plans Busy Summer, With Probe of … – The New York Sun

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman Jim Jordan, will spend his summer under the glare of the national media with a series of hearings that will cover topics ranging from the investigation of Hunter Biden to censorship to immigration law.

Mr. Jordan, a conservative Freedom Caucus member who once derailed Speaker McCarthys ambitions but has now embraced the Californian, has spent the first few months of the Congress focusing on the new Weaponization of the Federal Government subcommittee, which falls under the umbrella of his Judiciary committee. Mr. Jordan is the chairman of both panels.

His schedule for witness testimony shows that Mr. Jordan likely plans to spend his summer months issuing subpoenas for documents and making public statements denouncing what he sees as various abuses of power by the federal government.

It will begin shortly, as Mr. Jordan seeks information from the federal prosecutor, David Weiss, the United States attorney for Delaware, who spent years investigating President Bidens troubled son, Hunter.

Mr. Jordan has expressed his intention to use his subpoena powers to investigate allegations by IRS whistleblowers that the federal probe of Mr. Biden fils was slow-walked and constrained by Attorney General Garland and his chief deputies, something Mr. Garland has denied.

On June 22, Mr. Jordan sent a letter demanding documents from Mr. Weiss related to the investigation into the first son. The two IRS whistleblowers are claiming that Mr. Weiss attempted to charge the younger Mr. Biden with multiple felonies in multiple districts across the country.

They say that was rebuffed by superiors at the Department of Justice, who allowed Mr. Weiss to charge Mr. Biden with only misdemeanor tax evasion. That was despite evidence of alleged influence peddling and other crimes with foreign interests including Communist China.

Both Messrs. Weiss and Garland have publicly maintained that Mr. Weiss was acting independently. Mr. Jordan says hes determined to get to the bottom of the discrepancies between their stories and that of the IRS whistleblowers.

Hunter Biden recently entered with Mr. Weiss into a plea agreement, which Republicans have called a sweetheart deal. It would require him to plead guilty to the two misdemeanor counts of willful tax evasion, likely avoiding prison.

While Mr. Weiss has not received a letter requesting in-person testimony, Mr. Jordan has said multiple times in recent days that he hopes to speak with the Delaware prosecutor. Mr. Garland will sit before the Judiciary Committee in September in what is expected to be a blockbuster showdown.

For his weaponization subcommittee, Mr. Jordan is turning to a witness on the other side of the aisle, political scion and Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Mr. Kennedy will sit before the subcommittee on July 20, according to Breitbart News Ashley Oliver. Mr. Kennedy plans to speak on the issue of government censorship via technology companies, sources cited by Breitbart say.

In the past, claims by Mr. Kennedy about public health and vaccines have been removed from platforms like Facebook and YouTube. On June 5, Mr. Kennedy appeared on the podcast of an influential Canadian psychologist, Jordan Peterson, to discuss his presidential campaign and his position on childhood vaccinations.

The video was promptly removed from YouTube, which Mr. Kennedy railed against on Twitter. Do you really need Big Tech censors to decide what you should hear? he wrote.

Just days after Mr. Kennedys appearance before Mr. Jordans weaponization subcommittee, the embattled Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, will sit to give testimony before the full Judiciary Committee, likely about his enforcement of the nations immigration laws, which has been repeatedly criticized by Republicans.

Like Mr. Garland, Mr. Mayorkas is in the sights of Congressional Republicans who are hoping to impeach a member of the Biden cabinet. One Republican, Congressman Pat Fallon of Texas, introduced articles of impeachment against the secretary on January 9. To date, the measure has nearly 50 cosponsors.

No evidence atrazine in the water supply is causing more kids to … – PolitiFact

Are herbicides in the water causing children to become transgender?

That was the theory Democratic presidential challenger Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posed on a June 5 podcast.

"I think a lot of the problems we see in kids, and particularly boys, it's probably underappreciated how much of that is coming from chemical exposures, including a lot of the sexual dysphoria that were seeing," said Kennedy to podcast host and conservative commentator Jordan Peterson.

The podcast episode was taken down from YouTube for sharing misinformation about vaccines, but clips continue to spread on Twitter and TikTok.

TikTok identified video from the podcast as part of its efforts to counter inauthentic, misleading or false content. (Read more about PolitiFacts partnership with TikTok.)

"Sexual dysphoria" is not a medical term, according to experts, and Kennedys team did not respond to a request to clarify his meaning of that phrase. Gender dysphoria is the experience of distress that can occur when a persons gender identity does not match their sex assigned at birth, and is common in transgender people.

In the podcast, Kennedy referred to a study that found that exposure to the herbicide atrazine in water caused some male frogs to develop female sex organs and become infertile. His description matches the details of a study published in 2010.

"If its doing that to frogs, theres a lot of other evidence that its doing it to human beings as well," Kennedy said. He offered no examples of that evidence. Kennedy made similar comments on Joe Rogans podcast 10 days later.

But, with apologies to Kermit the Frog, there are some important biological differences between humans and frogs, and although atrazine may pose some human health risks, there is no evidence that atrazine exposure is linked to gender dysphoria in humans.

Kennedys team did not respond to requests for comment.

What is atrazine?

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, atrazine is one of the nations most commonly used herbicides. Atrazine, first registered for use in 1958, works by inhibiting photosynthesis on broadleaf plants and grasses. It is used mostly in large-scale agriculture by people who are government-certified in how to apply restricted-use pesticides.

Atrazine enters drinking water through agricultural runoff from row crops, the Environmental Protection Agency said. Row crops are annual food and fiber plants such as corn, soybeans, rice and cotton.

Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, the EPA regulates atrazine levels in drinking water. The legal limit is 0.003 milligrams/liter, or 3 parts per billion.

The EPAs 2018 human health risk assessment of atrazine "found no risks of concern when evaluating all dietary exposure sources including drinking water." The agency identifies potential risks for children playing on lawns treated with the chemical, and occupational exposure to the herbicide.

But not everyone agrees with EPAs assessment. Use of the chemical is banned in the European Union and many groups that advocate for biological diversity and food safety have opposed its use. The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act requires the EPA to periodically reevaluate pesticides to stay up to date with the most recent science. In 2020, atrazine was re-approved with updated risk mitigation measures.

The decision prompted legal action from several organizations who felt the EPA made its decision without "substantial evidence." The EPA was allowed to reevaluate part of its decision and has proposed new risk mitigation efforts. After public comment, regulations on atrazine are expected to be finalized.

Concerns about atrazine center on its potential to disrupt hormones in the body. Atrazine exposure in humans has been linked to reproductive health issues including birth defects, and low birth weight. There is also research that suggests a link to kidney disease, wheezing, and higher body mass index in farmers who use the herbicide.

Although atrazine may pose health risks, no studies in humans have shown a link between atrazine exposure and gender identity or sexual orientation.

Atrazine and frogs

In his podcast discussion with Peterson, Kennedy described the same findings as a 2010 study from the University of California, Berkeley.

"If you, in a lab, put atrazine in a tank full of frogs, it will chemically castrate and forcibly feminize every frog in there," Kennedy said. "And 10% of the male frogs will turn into fully viable females able to produce viable eggs."

Kennedys description of the study was mostly accurate, and when it was first published, the study garnered quite a lot of attention. Its lead researcher, Tyrone B. Hayes, was profiled in The New Yorker. Reaction to the study also spawned a viral meme of right-wing Infowars podcaster Alex Jones shouting, "I don't like 'em putting chemicals in the water that turn the freaking frogs gay!"

To learn more, PolitiFact talked with Hayes, a professor at University of California, Berkeleys Department of Integrative Biology.

He said he supports more research into atrazines health effects on animals and humans but said of Kennedys claim, "There are no data to really make that link. That's speculation."

He also explained key differences between humans and their amphibian friends. Both amphibians and fish, "have relatively permeable skin," Hayes said. "So, at a lower dose, they might absorb the compound more." Most people are mostly exposed to atrazine through drinking water, Hayes said. Exposure through the skin and lungs is more common in industrial applications.

When exposed to atrazine, humans are also more easily able to filter it out through urine. Frogs live in the water they urinate in and so are less able to escape long-term exposure.

Hayes also said that amphibians, along with fish and some reptiles, have more sexual fluidity.

"You can have a genetically male frog and give it estrogen and it'll grow an ovary," Hayes said. The same doesnt apply to humans.

Hayes pointed to several studies of atrazine in mammals such as rats and mice that raise concerns about lowered testosterone and genital abnormalities. Although low levels of testosterone can cause health problems, like reduced sex drive, fatigue, increased body fat, and depression, it has not been associated with gender dysphoria or being transgender, experts said.

Experts still dont know why some people are transgender, or why more young people are identifying as transgender or gender-nonconforming.

"There are no data that trans people prior to treatment have different hormone levels" than people who are not trans, said Dr. Joshua Safer, an endocrinologist and the executive director of the Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery.

Our ruling

Kennedy saidthe herbicide atrazine in the water supply is contributing to "sexual dysphoria" in children.

"Sexual dysphoria" is not a medical term and Kennedys team did not respond when we asked for clarification of that phrase. Gender dysphoria is the experience of distress that can occur when a persons gender identity does not match their sex assigned at birth.

Some research suggests atrazine can harm human health, specifically related to reproductive health and hormones. But no scientific studies in humans link atrazine exposure to gender dysphoria.

A 2010 study in frogs that Kennedy appeared to refer to found evidence that atrazine exposure has a feminizing effect on frogs and can cause genetically male frogs to develop ovaries. But biological differences mean those findings cannot be unilaterally applied to humans. The frog studys lead researcher said there is currently no data to support Kennedys claim.

We rate this claim False.

You Can’t Take Away Her Pain – The Good Men Project

Today more than ever, the world struggles with the concept of healthy masculinity. We seem to be crystal clear on what toxic masculinity is, i.e., anything badbut trying to define what positive masculinity looks like (or if it even exists) isnt agreed upon.

And our lack of definition extends beyond our vocabulary, extending into a dearth of positive masculine role models and leaders. Yesterday we embraced Jordan Peterson, while Andrew Tate seems all the rage today.

Even though we disagree on a lotfrom what it means to be a man to who is an ideal manthere are tropes and ideas which resonate with almost all men. One theme that most agree on is that a strong, positive man includes stepping up as a guide and leader for his wife, family, and self.

As men, we consider it our job, our duty, to support those in our carephysically, financially, and emotionally. When we marry, we dont see our wife as our partner, but as a precious soul we are now responsible for. This includes helping her in all aspects of life, including offering her guidance and support when she needs it most.

So when she is suffering, we hope and wish from the depth of our hearts that our words, guidance, and suggestions can fix it. Can take her pain away and dry her tears. Can bring a smile back to her beautiful face and make her forget her troubles. We want her to be happy, and we want to make her happy. This is our charge, mission, and purpose as a man, specifically as her husband. And when that doesnt happen, we consider ourselves a failure.

One of lifes harshest lessons is that as powerful as we are, as smart, good-looking, business savvy, and successful as we are, we are not nearly in control as much as we believe. Business deals go south, opportunities are squandered, and mistakes are made that can never be reversed.

Selling my Apple stock at $80 a share back in 2008 is one example. But that $4,160,943.47 (as of today, but whos counting?) mistake pales compared to some of the words I have uttered to my own father, which in turn pales compared to the mistakes Ive made as a parent. As humans, and even as men, we dont have all the answers and cant give all the right solutions. Although we pride ourselves on being leaders, we cannot lead everyone out of their own issues and problems.

This hits hardest when applied to your soulmate, your dearest wife. Because more than anything, we want to help, soothe, and ease her pain. Yet sometimes, we cant. Sometimes, she has to sort out her issues for herself and address her concerns on her own. Many of her struggles started well before you knew each other and are not problems you can make go away, as much as we wish that were true.

It doesnt mean you are a failure or cant be of help. You can support and express confidence in her overcoming her fears and anxiety. You can offer her guidance when asked, knowing that some of your ideas may hit the mark while others wont. For years I would offer unsolicited advice and become insulted when not heeded. Today, Im more sensitive and subtle when I share my thoughts: This may not work for you, but this is what I would do You may want to consider this approach When that happened to me, this is how I handled it or Have you ever considered trying this? These are gentle ways of sharing without forcing.

But more than any advice, thoughts, or solutions, you can be there for her, by her side, holding her, believing in her, and loving her. Ultimately, this will give her the strength to carry on and face the challenges yet to come. Because she didnt marry you for your answersshe married you for your heart. And thats one gift you can always give as a strong, masculine man.

Take a deeper dive into love, commitment, and marriage with my #1 New Release, 52 Tweets to a Great Marriage, available now.

Toronto’s Mayoral Election Just Delivered a Surprise Rebuke to the … – Jacobin magazine

From its outset, Torontos mayoral election has been full of surprises the first of them being that it happened at all. Last October, as turnout plummeted to a record low, incumbent mayor John Tory was reelected with a whopping 62 percent of the vote. An ally of conservative premier Doug Ford, who had just gifted him with tailor-made strong mayor powers, Tory looked poised to govern the city for as long as he wanted, effectively consolidating a right-wing stranglehold on Canadas largest city for the foreseeable future.

When Tory suddenly resigned after admitting to an affair with a younger staffer just four months later, there was no particular reason to think that the underlying dynamic would shift. Both former police chief Mark Saunders and Tory ally Ana Bailo evidently assumed as much and undertook developer-friendly, anti-tax campaigns firmly anchored on the Right. For all the spin that former New Democratic Party MP Olivia Chows polling amounted to name recognition and little else, her victory last night represented the triumph of municipal progressivism over these assumptions.

Having finished third in the 2014 mayoral race, Chow began the campaign with numbers in the low twenties and finished with a vote share in the high thirties. Chows message, reinforced by personal authenticity and disciplined debate performances, successfully punched through despite a near ceaseless pile-on from virtually every other major candidate. On housing, homelessness, transit, taxes, and crime, right-wing candidates mounted all of the familiar arguments and lost. Even as the local Liberal and Conservative machines went into overdrive with the singular goal of preventing such an outcome, the alternative won.

In a city with crumbling infrastructure and soaring rents, Chow successfully made the case for both a vacant homes and a mansion tax pledging to direct the revenues into new public housing construction. Her campaign also emphasized the plight of renters and Torontos more than ten thousand homeless, promising a rent supplement and new shelter space. Coupled with more funding for libraries, public services, and transit in underserviced areas, her campaign embraced a social democratic message and, against the odds, has broken the pattern of right-wing rule that has predominated since Rob Fords election some thirteen years ago. Aside from David Miller (mayor between 2003 and 2010), Chow will be the only nonconservative who has governed Toronto since its amalgamation into a unified city in 1998. Born in Hong Kong and raised from age thirteen in the working-class neighborhood of St James Town, her victory also marks a long-overdue development in one of the worlds most diverse metropoles.

As the old cliche goes, the real battle begins now. Chow, who has pledged not to use strong mayor powers, will need to be bold and aggressive in pursuit of her agenda, and the Right will be no less devious in resisting it than it was in opposing her candidacy. Nonetheless, that conservatives have been handed such a significant and unexpected defeat is worth celebrating in and of itself.

While elite consolidation around Bailo succeeded in giving her a last minute boost, other right-wing candidates notably Torontos onetime police chief Saunders got rinsed. Anthony Furey, best known as a columnist for the Toronto Sun tabloid, went all-in on anti-homeless rhetoric and placed a distant fourth with less than 5 percent of the vote despite the endorsements of Jordan Peterson and two senior former federal cabinet ministers. Brad Bradford, a sitting city councilor who incessantly averred against public sector bureaucracy and was initially viewed as a serious contender, received less than ten thousand votes out of the more than seven hundred thousand cast (1.28 percent).

In light of all this, Chows victory, much like Brandon Johnsons in Chicago, points to a wider shift in North Americas municipal political terrain. The Rights standard political arsenal was deployed in the usual, nakedly cynical form, and a social democrat was elected instead. However conservatives may attempt to spin this result, it represents both a mandate for change and a welcome repudiation of the austerity politics that have dominated Toronto since 2010. Who knows? Perhaps the fever of neoliberalism is finally beginning to break.

Jet-setting London mayor blasted for activating ‘climate clock’ with ominous 6-year warning: ‘Leave us alone’ – Fox News

London Mayor Sadiq Khan was widely mocked on social media this week for activating a "climate clock" that shows how much time the world has left to reduce greenhouse emissions.

"Today with His Majesty King Charles III we launched the Climate Clock a visual reminder of the urgency of the climate crisis," Khan posted on Twitter along with a video of himself activating the clock with King Charles III.

The clocks countdown started at 6 years and 24 days, which climate activists say is the deadline to meet the Paris Agreement guideline to stop the Earth from heating more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

"The climate emergency poses a threat not only to the future of our city but to the future of our world and that is why it must remain a key priority," Khan added.

Khans post was "ratioed" and widely mocked on Twitter, as many users likened him to climate activist Greta Thunberg and said they doubt that action must be taken in six years.

"What a load of nonsense," British politician David Kurten tweeted. "There is no climate emergency."

"Leave Us Alone," Canadian conservative author and podcast host Jordan Peterson posted.

Khan, one of the most prominent supporters of the climate change movement, has been criticized in the past over his reluctance to condemn private jet usage in London, as well as the air travel miles he has racked up since taking office while warning about climate change.

"Hasnt he heard of Zoom?" Khans critics tweeted in October when the liberal mayor flew 7,000 miles across the globe from the United Kingdom to Argentina to speak at a climate change summit.

A spokesperson for Khan's office told Fox News Digital that the mayor cycles and uses public transport whenever possible and flies commercial, not private, if no appropriate alternative exists.
