About the position

At the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, https://www.ntnu.no/ibm, there is a PhD fellowship available. The research project is designed in collaboration with other departments at the Faculty of Engineering and faculties at NTNU. For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.

The research field addresses innovation, sustainability, digitization, and entrepreneurship as emerging areas in universities. Innovation and sustainability have become increasingly important in recent years in education and research in addressing global challenges and strengthen the collaboration and transfer of knowledge between public as education and private sectors. NTNU, Faculty of Engineering need to focus more on linkages between innovation, entrepreneurship, and public policy in the development of human society. Innovation and sustainability are the key to improve research, sell technology, have better KPIs and unique positions in research, in a proven industrial area together with creating better processes in education and in transfer of technology and innovations. The development of new type of process and methodologies in research and education to arrive at better innovative technology is becoming increasingly important in the universities.

Universities and countries with the ability to overcome the challenges that are typically faced in implementing new research methodologies, new education processes and new competences for the professors and students at all levels together with the scaling up of processes and technologies from the laboratory, proof of concept to commercial production will have an advantage in achieving competitive and sustainable development in shorter timeframes. This development of innovative technologies is being largely driven by the quest for more environmentally sustainable operations, digital transformation, and societal contribution. Understanding enablers of the successful implementation of sustainability and innovation processes in research and education is expected to provide valuable lessons learned and advance in the transfer of technology from university to business and to society. In line with NTNU 2025 Innovation strategy aiming to build an Innovation eco-system by strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, increase the innovation and commercialization and innovation competences the PhD will seek to create a Framework for sustainable innovation in engineering, education, and transfer of technology, by understanding the context of the research areas, research and development of innovation in education, process and services leading to sustainability and transfer of technology.

Salary and conditions

PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 491 200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3years without teaching requirements.

Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme in Civil Engineeringwithin three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
