Lenovo Debuts New Cloud-Ready Servers

Lenovo today announced two new additions to its line of ThinkServers: the ThinkServer RD530 and RD630. These rack servers have been designed to meet the cloud and virtualization needs of today's IT business infrastructure.

The RD530 is a 1U rack server with tool-less rail kits for easy mounting, while the RD630 is a 2U server. Customers can choose among the Intel Xeon E5-2600 processor family to accommodate the two sockets in both serverswith the potential to deliver up to eight cores per processor.

Each server can support up to 320GB of RAM in 20 DIMM slots. Redundancy and fault tolerance are provided with advanced RAID controller options, and a choice of up to eight or 16 hot-swappable drives.

Lenovo states that the new servers are more power-efficient than previous generation Lenovo servers. The new chassis improves thermal efficiency by 30 percent, and has optimal low voltage memory, as well as fan speed control algorithms that compensate for altitude and temperature. The vendor also claims that the new design reduces failure due to vibration and shock by 40 percent.

Additional capabilities include Smart Grid power management technology, which leverages Intel Node Manager to scale power management of up to 1,000 servers in a datacenter. IT administrators can install an operating system and drivers using a two-click rapid deployment feature.

Prices for the ThinkServer RD530 and RD630 begin at $2,399 and $2,699, respectively. Both units are available starting mid-June direct through Lenovo's website, or through Lenovo partners.
