Dundee City Council has moved IT workloads to the Cloud – DatacenterDynamics

The council undertook a cost analysis of the current on-prem data center and decided to move most of its workloads to Brightsolid. The remaining 5 percent of Dundee City Councils ICT will stay onsite to aid the council in connecting with Brightsolids data center.

Graeme Quinn, senior manager IT infrastructure at Dundee City Council, said: We were pleased by the smooth migration to the data center and have also seen ongoing benefits such as improved management and monitoring of services, especially out of working hours. This combined with Brightsolids flexible billing structure allows us to turn infrastructure efficiencies into significant cost savings.

Brightsolid is one of the suppliers offering cloud interconnection and IT solutions to Scottish agencies like local authorities and the NHS. This has been the case since August 2019 when the tech firm announced it was going to provide its services to support public bodies.

Brightsolid fits into the devolved Scottish governments Cloud Services Framework (replacing the former Hosting Services Framework), which expired in May 2019.

Under the new two-year framework which can extend to four years, Brightsolid will offer enterprise, private, public, and hybrid cloud solutions and associated services, working collaboratively with organizations to meet their IT needs.

Elaine Maddison, CEO at Brightsolid, said: We are pleased to offer our continued support to the Scottish Government following three years of successfully working with Scottish public sector organizations under the hosting services framework. The strong portfolio of cloud services we offer customers provides them with future-proof infrastructures to support digital transformation whilst considering the long-term financial implications a testament to the feedback we have since received.

Brightsolid is owned by Scottish company DC Thomson, which is also the publisher of the Beano comic.
